1. Mick - I remember when I went out to buy a P - I went to Sound Control in Salford and tried everything they had from Mex Std to 60th Anniversary and I was willing to spend a grand on the right one. A bit underwhelmed, I went to Music Ground in Leeds and tried 3 or 4 Jap ones - a couple of reissues and a bog basic one. I bought the bog basic one because it was the best P I'd played all day (apart from the 60th Anniversary MIA) and it cost less than £350. To answer your question, I don't think it matters whether it's MIA or CIJ so long as it's a good example and the best one for you. Ps vary so much mate.
2. I've just been learning James Jamerson's bassline to Bernadette and it's been a real challenge for me.
3. Thanks everyone
4. Paul's great to deal with - bought a Lakland DJ off him and recently a Korg Pandora, definitely recommended.
5. Thanks for the help fellas and yes - I use OBBM's cables and always will.
6.
One freshly completed Omni 10 As a fair number of bass players are interested in Bills cabs this one will be coming down to the meet up in Lytham St Annes...in fact I brought the build forward specifically to bring it down to this event. Only a shame I sold all my DR280's or I would be bringing one of these also. Will be very interesting to compare it against other known branded cabs. This is a great shot to give an exact idea of size. Its sat next to one of my previous little rehearsal cabs, an old Peavey 210TX (long since reloaded with alternate drivers....) Dave
Bloody hell - is this the same Dave Perry who played with Shady & U4ria and stood in for us (Hugh Jarre Soul Band) from time to time?
7. Power amp on hold. Preamp up for grabs next week if the sale goes through.
8. Makes sense John.
9. I think there's been posts on this subject before but I'm still going to ask the question if you don't mind. Is it detrimental to speakers when using an amp with a higher power rating than the cabs? Even though the amp is turned down fairly low and the speakers sound happy? The reason I ask is I used to gig with a LMII (500 watts @ 4 ohms) and two Aguilar 112's (2x300 watts @ 8 ohms each) and played some fairly big rooms with no problems at all. The volume on the amp would usually be set at 12 o clock. My current amp is 900 watts @ 4 ohms and I'm using this with two Bergantino 112s (2x300 watts @ 8 ohms each) and playing at the same sort of volumes but the volume on the amp is between 10 and 11 o' clock. Is this ok? I use two speakons and run the amp on parallel but is there a safer way of connecting the cabs - ie; daisy-chaining? Sorry, I can't find a smiley for thick, so this'll have to do
10.
Oh.. and Homer... I remember the the MarkBass / Aguilar match from the first bass bash and the F1 certainly comes up with the goods as well ;o)
That was an astounding little rig Dan, I'm heading back that way with my 2 Bergy 112's and if I can sell my pre/power amp, I'll be purchasing a Markbass SA450. talk about going 'round in circles
11.
Ever since I've joined BassChat I've looked upon this thread with envy, thinking to myself "one day, dam it, I will contribute!!!" And so.... We had our first ever gig on Saturday night in our local, they have a real good band who play 1st Saturday of the month and their Bass Player has been helping us out loads with Sunday practise sessions, so a couple of weeks ago he suggested we did a couple of songs in-between their 1st and 2nd sets, just to get use to the idea of being on stage. Now, only one of us, luckily our v. talented vocalist, has ever done anything remotely resembling public performance. The guitarist and I have never done it, in fact prior to Saturday night, the only thing I've ever done was be a sunflower in the school play (and I'm now 30). We rattled through Bohemian Like You and Chasing Cars. I think we did OK, we agreed on a good 6 out of 10 and judging by the applause we got, they didn’t hear the mistakes ;-). However as a first time ever performance, what a feeling! I totally get why you guys get a buzz out of playing. Awesome!
Nice one Moody, gigging is great innit? Hey, now that you've broken your cherry, let's have some more posts from you ya hear
12. Thanks Joe - and only 15 minutes from Wigan
13. Nothing to do with me (sadly)
14. A dreary night up the M65 for us, we played at the Dugdale Arms which boasts room for up to 200 people on t'internet but we played in a room about the same size as my living room to about 25 people. They were enthusiastic enough and later, towards the end the chavs came out of the bar to join in. Turned out they were good lads and weren't looking for bother. One of them got up and sang with us and it was all good natured. We played some Jam for them at the end and they loved it.
15. I went yesterday and was a bit surprised to see a Korg Pandora PX4D for £115. When I asked if that was a mistake I was told that it wasn't and if they sold it any cheaper they'd be making a loss. There was no answer when I told him Sound Contol had 'em on the website for £79.99 and Soundlive were selling 'em for £89. I would have met them in the middle but there was no having it. That said, it's still a bloody good shop.
16. Bump for price reduction
17. Bump for price reduction.
18. Nice one Chris - see you there
19. Two very worthy additions mate - good to see you last night too.
20. Sorry fellas - couldn't resist.
21. 'Tis a beaut for sure Andy - congrats.
22.
Sorry, you've lost me
Sorry James - it's just my pathetic sense of humour. I was just implying that if you placed a dead rabbit under the front of your cab to angle it back, you'd be able to hare yourself better, that's all mate.
