1. Sex Machine was difficult to master for me. Standing in The Shadows of Love takes some doing at the right speed (how Jamerson played that with one finger is beyond my understanding). Shake a Tailfeather wasn't easy to master either.
2. I used to have one of these - but with the cutaway. Great guitars with a lovely tone.
3. Cheers Russ
4. As predicted, our drummer is chucking in the towel and we need to replace her asap. Does anyone know of a drummer around the Preston area looking to join a busy band? Must be good, willing and able to do around 70 gigs p.a. around the North West - rehearsals are rare. We play classic soul / 60s stuff but with a bit more balls to it.
5. A Jazz (Lakland DJ) and a P do everything for me and they're all I need. It took a lot of time, money and effort to arrive at this conclusion. However, I am GASsing for a fretless now that I've discovered I can actually play one but can't decide whether to buy a cheapie and see how it goes or blow a wad on a decent one. Wouldn't mind a 6er too but that would just be a bedroom bass.
6.
I'm thinking the Squire Vintage Modified Jazz might be the best option. I just don't have the time to de-fret a bass. The Squire seems to get good reviews and I guess a low B might prove to be superfluous on a fretless (?), so a 4-string would probably suffice. What do you guys think? Anyone on here got a Squire Vintage Modified Jazz fretless?
Mark, there's one for sale on here now for £150 but I think it's collection only from London.
7. Worms.
8. SoundsGreatMusic in Heald Green sell Markbass and a few Ampeg items. I'm not aware of any other MB stockist around Mcr - next nearest is Electromusic in Doncaster.
9. No one's mentioned Suzi Quattro yet ...ahem...and what about that bloke Bill Wyman?
10. I had a lucky escape last night, my drink fell off the ledge mid-song last night (vibration I guess) right onto my extension lead (the business end). Wasn't sure what to do but I had my RCD in place so I kept going in a pool of coke and broken glass. Nothing went bang fortunately but I was glad the RCD was there just in case.
11. Last night was the pits - we knew it'd be poo cos it always is wherever we play in Burnley. Disinterested, unappreciative audience and not the slightest hint of applause but WTF we enjoyed ourselves in spite of it. We got a booking out of it too Nov 1 - black tie job £600 I thangyou. That cheered us up for a while and then the drummer dropped the bombshell we've all been expecting - she's leaving. Ah well, the show must go on as they say.
12. Yeh tried that, didn't work - he was the owner and wouldn't budge.
13. This amp was nearly £800, I'd have bought it for £700 as I'm not so much bothered about the cosmetics, it's the principle of the whole issue I can't live with.
14. Been pondering over this for a while now - I've recently been trawling around the shops looking for a new amp and I've been a bit shocked about the state of some stuff I've been offered in some well known stores. I was trying to find somewhere that had examples of a few I was interested so I could AB 'em. First store I went in - didn't have the stock they advertised on their ebay store (I know, I should have rang first) and so they offered me a battered and I mean battered LMII which was nestling amongst the Boss pedals out of its box. I told the guy I've had one of those before and after a full year's use and about 75 gigs, it was in better condition than the piece of sh*t he was trying to sell me so go and find the vaseline now. I went to another store and a similar situation arose but he had stock of the gear I wanted to try. I didn't buy the amp I really wanted because it was well used and I wasn't gonna pay full whack on what I consider to be used gear. He didn't have another in stock so - four hours to go before the gig and no amp, I bought exhibit B cos it was brand new and hadn't been out of the box. I mean -you wouldn't buy a new car that was scratched to f*ck would you or am I too anal?

16. I've just got rid of my rack mounted Korg DTR 1000 - looked pretty, lots of flashing lights but it didn't mute when I tuned up. yeh, I could have bought a pedal to mute it but that just complicates things. So I thought I'd go back to the trusty Boss TU-2 but the shop I was in didn't have any and recommended this.. Best tuner I've ever had bar none.
17. I joined a band on bass but couldn't play it - I had 3 weeks and 20 odd songs to learn before the first gig. I was searching frantically on the internet for advice and stumbled upon Bassworld. I haven't done a full day's work since and still can't play the bass.
18. Our guitarist is a serial knob twiddler. We sound check, set all the levels and then he twiddles with the PA, his amp, hisguitar and his pedals after we've finished soundchecking. He has about 5 pedals, which he constantly twiddles between and during songs. He has the mixer on his side which he twiddles with before and during songs. He has the lights controls which he constantly twiddles during songs. He tunes up between every song too. I think he has a knob fixation.
19. Great stuff Clarky - I'm envious mate
20. Lovely P Dave, mojomongous.
21. I use one of these.. 22. That's the first Warwick I've ever seen that's given me GAS , lovely bass and I bet it sounds fantastic.
23. I'm sure you'll love it Clarky but if you don't, let me know and I'll give you £500 for it Just kidding mate
Hi there, well I've gone and ordered an R500 from Mark at Bass Direct. Won't hold you responsible if I don't get on with it But seriously everything about it appeals to me, the weight/portability, the look, the simple tone controls, the tube preamp, the specific "rock" purpose, so I can't believe I won't love it! Will probably spell the end for my great-sounding but a-bit-too-heavy Tech 21 head if its as good as I think it is going to be and also my Sansamp BDDI - so a warning these may appear in the FS section before long! Not technically minded but will post my thoughts on it once I've had a good play. ATB Clarky
24. I'd say it would be better for rock than a LMII or a W/A Scout. It does have that tube warmth without sounding overdriven and I would have thought it would be right up your alley but you better try one Clarky. One man's meat and all that.
