    Thanks a lot fellas - I really appreciate the kind comments. I honestly feel like I've arrived rig-wise. It's all a bit heavier than I'm used to but I can manage lifting the cab in and out of the car on my own. The pain is worth it for the sonic benefits.

    I think that's it now. Difficult to top this - quality components, not too heavy and silly loud and I mean silly loud. It also sounds absolutely stunning.     Thank you owen, and pardon my response but the first 3 or 4 times people posted light-hearted comments teasing me about how much gear I go through, I thought it was funny. The next 150 or so times, it was starting to get boring and lately all I want to do is track irritants down and break their legs. I do go through a lot a gear but so do a lot of other people who remain quiet and keep their heads down. I don't have 20 basses like some people, I don't have exotic trophy basses gathering dust in the bedroom and I don't have a Precision for each day of the week. I'm in a busy band and new to bass and yes, I keep making mistakes when buying stuff. I am learning about gear but I think I'm getting close to having what I like and need but I would love someone to explain to me why, I (and it seems like only me) have to endure these little digs every time I sell something?

    Peter is a rare thing - an absolute gentleman and a real pleasure to business with. I can't imagine there being a more honest, decent man on the planet. We've swapped a few things now but unfortunately I met him after his divorce so didn't get the opportunity to swap partners

    I'm not sure if I want to sell this or not cos it's a truly fantastic piece of kit but I've got a new rig on the way and don't think I'll be needing it. It's only a couple of months old and believe it or not, it's never been stomped on or even seen a floor so it's brand spanking and still in the original box etc. It's a great sounding preamp, a superb DI, it's great for practising with headphones (built in amp), two switchable channels, mute - oh FFS go and read all the glowing reviews - there's plenty of 'em. It'll cost you £289 if you bought it from The Gallery but I haven't a clue what to ask for it so I'm going to invite offers and see what comes and it might make my mind up whether to sell it or not. PM me if interested.

    In 2007, I learned the value of getting proper tuition. It's improved my playing ability no end and helped to sustain my interest.

    I keep having a dabble at 5s thinking as an ex-guitarist that it can't be that hard but in the past I've struggled with muting open strings with 5s and end up selling within a short space of time. I've been taking lessons on 4 strings for about 6-8 months and now my overall technique's a lot better, I don't have a problem muting or playing across the strings and I must say I'm really enjoying my Bongo 5 at the moment. There are a lot of advantages with 5s as has been stated in other posts once you've got your technique right.

    The hole for the strap button on one of my basses is too big for the screw. It's been plugged with matchsticks in the past judging from the evidence but now they're disintegrating and I need to do something else. I can't use a bigger screw cos I use Dunlop Straplocks and the button won't take a bigger screw so is it rawlplug time or should I fill the hole and re-drill? What would you do?

    Thanks Dood - that MXF1200D looks interesting. I've had a gander at Basstasters too and I really like the sound of the Ampeg SVP-CL preamp. May sell a bass (don't need 3) and invest it in my rig. We'll see.
