Anybody going to see Geddy and friends next month??
niceguyhomer replied to Bobby K's topic in General Discussion
I think the MEN Arena has the worst sound in the world Russ but it sounded pretty good where I was. That said, Geddy's sound was terrible. Overall a great night. -
I'm loving mine now after getting to know it better. It's great for practising too with headphones and an MP3 player.

I think I'll be selling my Epifani UL410 soon thanks to a worstening hip & back problem and downsizing (again) to two smaller cabs. I'm thinking of maybe replacing it with two TC RS210's and was wondering what people's thoughts are re; TC's cabs in general and are they the best bet for my new RH750 head. Any thoughts / comments appreciated.

Traded - Spector Euro5 Dark Cherry - Lovely!
niceguyhomer replied to MoJoKe's topic in Basses For Sale
Thanks for these thoughts! I would have guessed a stock one is worth between £700 and £900, but it has the lovely EMG preamp, and there is another EuroLX, but a 4 string, up here for £1100 which has thrown me a bit, as prices do fluctuate here! I know it must be worth roughly about the same as a JO5 or DJ5 depending on the market, and I would consider topping up to trade/buy a 55-94.
I had an identical LX5 with an ACG02 preamp in - it was in mint condition and I sold it for £700 when people had money to spend. Frankly, anyone asking £1100 for a 4LX is having a laugh. -
Finally found the right 'gig' for me

Really pleased for you fella -
Just having a noodle in my den and began tweaking the action on my Stingray 5 - I was raising it to get rid of a bit of fret clatter as I call it and I noticed how much the tone changed as I raised the action. I've now got the action set quite high and the tone is astoundingly different even though I adjusted the pup height correspondingly. It's particularly noticeable with the B and E strings which are much tighter sounding. I knew it had some influence on tone but not this much.

Looking for a pair of monitor headphones
niceguyhomer replied to Mornats's topic in Accessories and Misc
I was on this boat two weeks ago, looking to spend £100-120 on some nice cans. I tried loads around that price and the best to my ears in terms of sound and comfort were Bose AE2s which after 10% discount cost me £108. They're so comfortable I can wear them for hours. I accept there may be better ones around that price but I wasn't going to buy anything blind off the net and they brought the biggest smile to my face. I'm really chuffed with them. -
John bought my Yamaha TRB6 JP2. He was pleasure to deal with, great comms etc and it all went swimmingly. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet John when he collected the bass from my house due to my work commitments which was a pity. Great bloke and a real stalwart of this hallowed forum. Highly recommended.

Hi Paul, It really is a fantastic venue - excellent set up and facilities. I like the Ray - it's a nice solid performer. The Yammy had to go, it was causing some serious pain in my plucking hand and pins and needles from my shoulder down to the tips of my fingers which has now disappeared since I sold it. The cab is an Epifani UL410 Series 2 and the head is a TC Electronics RH750 which I've had for 4 days. I'm not sure it's a good match so the cab may go soon plus I have no gigs on the horizon so I might buy something small to play through, I dunno.

A really emotional night for my band last night as we played our last gig at Darwen Library Theatre. The founder member Andrew Turner is retiring overseas ending a nine year run with the band. Not sure what's going to happen but we're gonna let the dust settle and see where we go from here. He'll be impossible to replace. Here's a couple of pics of the venue, one of the band after soundcheck and the only sharp one taken during the performance.

Well - it was a lot lot better tonight with the new settings and the other members of the band really liked it. It sounded like a bass should and it really filled the large stage and sat well in the mix. The settings were as follows Steve; Programming (shift); Bass to -7 clicks Low mids at 0 Hi mids at 0 Hi programmed to +7 clicks Tone controls then set to; Bass +3 clicks Low mids at -2 clicks Hi mids -3 clicks Hi at -7 clicks Sp Comp at +5 clicks. Sounds a bit complex but it only took a minute to set up and store as a preset. Yep - I think all will be well in Dingly Dell. -
Alan, I went through a similar situation with my RH450. Got a sensational sound with headphones but it didn't translate to gigging volumes with speakers. I was reading an article by Alex Clabber that went into the reasons why an amp needs to be set up at gigging volume. If you want a "get out of jail free card", you can borrow either my Little Mark II or SA450, (you know and understand them) or even the TecAmp Combo. The TecAmp would easily suit you. I have used it without PA support in a large club and it easily coped. I am rehearsing in chorley next week so you could drop off there, no need to bring it back. It is so easy to get a great sound out of it as it has a control similar to the MB VPF/VLE You've got my number. Just give me a call if you need anything.
Thanks Stuart, as always you're a real pal but it's actually for tonight. This is the last gig in the diary - I've decided to use the Epifani now I've got to know the amp a little better.
Hi Al, Unfortunately you won't get the headphone sound at a gig. The band and the room gets in the way. Were you tweaking when it sounded bad? I found that the whole TC tweak thing just gave me an opportunity to screw up my sound. Since I've been I running my TC flat my sound has improved 1000%.
I was constantly knob twiddling TBH Chris. I realise I won't get the same sound as my headphones but what I meant to say was that I now seem to have a good balance and a starting point for the gig. -

It's the new RH750 -I've been tweaking the 'centres' and tone settings this morning following recommendations on TB and it's now sounding brilliant through my headphones. If I can get near that sound tonight I'll be very happy. We'll see. -
I still think it's a fantastic head and having done some research this morning, now realise the sound I want is in there somewhere but in order to find it, I've got some tweaking to do.

Not sure what to do - I have a really important gig tonight. It's a six piece folk rock band with quite a loud drummer but we DI everything and have good monitoring. Last night I rehearsed with an 80s trib band using my Epifani UL410 and sounded absolutely dreadful to the point where it affected my playing. I did wonder if the UL410 is a seriously bad match but I've been twiddling all morning with the shift / control settings (following K Jungs recommendations on TB) and I have some nice sounds in my headphones but obviously need to try them with my cab first. If it still sounds poo I'm tempted to nip and buy an RS210 this afternoon bebause I'm downscaling anyway in the very near future. -
Is the RS210 loud enough for on stage monitoring? Any views on the cab would be appreciated but quick ...I have an important gig tonight
-
Last night was a one-off dep Paul, Silver Dogs do their last gig tomorrow night and the 80s band is just a bit of fun at the moment and I'm just helping them while they get it off the ground. My gigging days are coming to an end - tomorrow could well be my last gig. I had another blast with the RH750 tonight and I really hope it was the room, but the sound was possibly the worst sound I've ever had and no amount of knob twiddling would make it any better. It was so bad, I'm going to try and borrow a rig for tomorrow night. As I said, it could have been the room, it could be a bad match with my UL410...I don't know what the problem is but I'm seriously unhappy as I sit and type this.

Well well, I used my new 750 on a blues dep and first impressions are extremely impressive. Coming from a Markbass LM Tube 500, this think has so much more punch - especially in the low mids, grunt and presence. I love the built in tuner and the compressor is good too. This thing oozes quality and feels like it's built for the gigging bassist, it's bloody loud too. I just used everything flat and didn't have time to experiment with any settings or use the Tweetertone knob - my Stingray 5 just sounded so good plugged straight in. I was using my 8ohm Epifani UL410. I've got a rehearsal with my 80s trib band tonight so that'll give me an opportunity to have a fiddle with the settings and tomorrow, I've got a theatre gig with my folk rock band so more knob twiddling then. Really really pleased with it so far and love using it to practice in my den with the 'phones on and no cab. Probably going to order the footswitch today and I'm even thinking of buying an RS210 to try. I'll do an update on Sunday after the gig,
