I've only had this for a month or so but I'm struggling with it and have made the decision to go back to 5 strings. It's a beautiful bass and not too heavy for a 6er. Stunning build quality and tone and in excellent condition. Comes in a superb Yamaha deluxe case also is excellent condition. It's just been strung with Status Hot Wires and has a really low action. It has the new noiseless preamp and gold Schaller straplocks. I paid £1350 for it and Ideally I would like to get that back but realise in these depressing times, I've got two chances...no hope and Bob Hope. Trades considered upwards or downwards with cash either way. I might even consider amps/cabs. I will not ship this bass under any circumstances - you'll have to come and get it or meet me but we can talk about that. Pics
Here's a nice software drum machine you can try for free, all features enabled. It's easy and there's no limit on the trial period, just a nag screen. As it's software, you won't need an input channel. http://www.leafdigital.com/software/leafdrums/ If you like it, you can substitute the 'factory' drum sounds (which are a bit crap) for better samples. Of which I have some if you want them.
Thanks for that - unfortunately after 3 attempts to install it, I've given up. One of the files won't decompress.

Thanks GarethFlatlands, it's all starting to come a bit clearer now. I was actually hoping to use my hifi for monitoring cos that'll save money I can use for upgrading my headphones. I'll probably need better speakers - ATM I'm using Gale Gold Monitors which sound bloody marvellous 3ft from my ears with cds and mp3s etc but I'm not sure how bass will sound through them (I use 5 and 6 stringers). My amp is a NAD 3020.

OK done a bit more research now and I'm leaning towards a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB jobby and a pair of KRK Rokit G2 RP5 avtive monitors. Please help me with a couple of questions....I know I can plug my bass in and another device such as a drum machine, record it to my pc and hear everything through the monitors. Can I play along to music stored on my pc through the monitors? EDIT - can I also put my Tascam BT through the monitors?

I hate threads like this...it makes we want to buy one (Ibanez) and I have the mahoney to do so and I am currently looking at what I use to practice but then I read a load of negative stuff about them and it puts me right off. I realise I'm a whinging old PITA and should just buy one and see what all the hoohaa is about

Thanks Monckyman. What it is - I'm coming to the end of my gigging days and want to keep playing my bass as a gentle pastime. I thought I'd turn my den into a kind of studio so I can play along to stuff from different sources (pc/hi-fi/tascam BT) etc and when I can get my head in gear, do a bit of a recording. I can play guitar to a decent standard and will buy a drum machine so I can do some writing. My problem is I'm absolutely thick when it comes to this kind of thing - technology has passed me by If it's possible, I'd like to use a small mixer and put everything through that into my pc (I'd be buying an external soundcard) and have the facility to hear it all through (presumably) powered monitors or a decent set of headphones when volume is an issue (late evening etc). I thought I'd buy the various components in stages and learn about them about it all as I go but I don't really understand or know what I need at this stage cos I is fik innit.

Excuse the stupidity but what does a USB Audio Interface allow you to do? Can I use it to plug my bass into my pc and playing along to stuff (on my pc) out through my hi-fi? How does that sound?

Played at The Met in Bury last night in the studio - room for about 75 seated and it was more or less full. Cracking little venue with a soundman who knew what he was doing. Only downer was the parking tickets we all got for parking where the theatre told us to park. It was a private car park management company so they will be filed under ignore. Great night. A little pic taken while we were soundchecking..

A bag of sh*te then Eude?

Fantastic - thanks Chris.

Ooh tempting - nice price too. Do you keep a few in stock?

I really fancy a P5110 but I'm kinda put off by stuff I've read on TB about problems some people have had with them powering up. The posts are quite old so do you think it was a dodgy batch or is it something Ibanez have fixed since?
It was you that made me think twice about Yamahas Al! I've got to admit, I've fallen quite in love with my BB424 now! Really meaty, especially compared to my jazz. That TRB is possibly the nicest I've ever seen!
I'm sorry we couldn't do a deal mate but I'm sure you'll be happy with what your new BB424. The passive ones sound better IMHO. Enjoy fella.

I know this has been done before but hasn't everything? What do you use for practising at home / playing along to music? I just bought and returned a Phil Jones Bass Buddy which I really liked and may buy another cos it'd be useful as a back up at gigs but before I do, I thought I'd just weigh up my options. I can't make my mind up whether to buy a nice combo that'll take my MP3 player or buy something like a Bass Buddy to use with headphones.
