Oh sorry! Just thought that some of the DB/EUB players might not look in the FS section much as it does seem to mostly be electrics! By all means remove if it's a bit out of order! Si

Just thought I'd bump this! Si

Shuker "Pub/Stealth Bass" - An All Black 33" Jazz Bass
Sibob replied to eude's topic in Build Diaries
It's the battle of the black/black jazzes to get finished, I think mine might have the edge though hehe Loving the look of yours so far though Eude Si -
Very nice mate! The stingray looks classy! Don't suppose you mind helping towards settling a slight mystery!? Could you take a picture of the jazz bass without the scratchplate and contribute to this thread?: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26434 It's about the routing of the front pickup etc Much obliged Si

Oh man, it's a pet hate of mine when people use soundcheck to just w*nk about, and then probably complain in the set when they don't have a good sound! Play something that you play in the actual set!! That goes for playing between songs, it sounds amateur! The amount of people who use the gaps to play some 'impressive riff' by Claypool or Wooten is sickening! Hope it goes well Sarah! Si

Hmmm, I'd be inclined to think it was the 310 out of the two options you give! I had, what I seem to remember being, a 335 - 5 string with soapbar pickups, active/passive switch. Wish I still had it actually, really good basses!! Si

I normally HATE gold hardware, but the fact that everything is gold on yours kinda makes it ok lol Nice build! I was considering a Warmouth neck for my current Jazz build, but went with something a little more 'homegrown' But their options are second to none, and seem to be fairly reasonably priced, although the dollar is fighting back, so better order soon! Si

Indeed, I reckon it has something to do with the S1, I wonder if the new USA jazzes without S1 have normal routing! Si

Major and Minor Scale Modes? and a host of others
Sibob replied to Cliff Burton's topic in Theory and Technique
Phil, also try working the modal patterns up through the scale that you're in, so if you're in the key of C Major for example: Ionian starting from C Dorian starting from D Phrygian from E Lydian from F Mixolydian from G Aeolian from A (C Major's relative Minor) Locrian from B it then resolves again on the C an octave higher. This is of a course a very linear way of running the scales but gives it slightly more musical context than running all the patterns from the C note. It also helps us understand what notes and scales we're able to use whilst playing, so for example (in it's simplest form), if I'm in the key of C major, I know that I can build bass lines and solo using any of the from those modes starting on those degrees of the C major scale. This also applies for when I'm playing in A minor, because it is the relative minor of C major, I can also build lines and solo using the C major modes. Si p.s. I think my first point was already suggested by Gonzo, but if anyone is interested consider my post as a highlighter pen over his point lol -
Well I guess I'm about 90% sure, the headstock decal says made in USA with serial number that dates it correctly, it has US standard tuners, it has the S1 switch system, it came in the standard US hardcase with truss rod tool etc. I can't think that someone went to all the trouble of putting these US bits and pieces onto a MIM body!? Si
-
I've just had a thought about the extra routing on mine, might it be because of the S1 switch, there being a few more cables and bits & bobs!? Anyone else with S1 era jazzes and non-S1 era jazzes fancy taking some pictures? lol Si
-
I think for the opening/main riff, just follow the guitar, you're playing too much in that recording (IMO). It'll sound fat and tight and just be a cool beefy riff to nod your head to. When it opens up a little and he goes high, what you're doing is just fine I reckon, remember there'll be a vocal there, melody or whatever, so although they'll be slightly more sonic space available to you because of the change in guitar part, you don't want to get in the way of the voice! Si
-
I'm not fussed about the routing, the bass sounds awesome lol And what idiot would use a jazz bass without a scratchplate! My bass is around 2003/2004, so it seems more cost cutting came into play!? Si
-
Weird! Maybe it has literally been a money saving technique since the start, and seeing as Jaco took his scratchplate off, the reissues must be copying it right down to that detail! Si
-
Yeah, I was thinking it was a money-saving technique, but surely the saving is so negligible that it's hardly worth the effort!? Tis an odd one Si
-
So I had to remove the scratchplate on my US Jazz Standard yesterday, so as to compare it to one I've purchased for my Jazz build, and this is what I find: It's a little odd, because i've removed the plate before and didn't even notice the difference. Anyone else found this or have any explanations? I don't care btw......just thought it was interesting Si

I've got a Lakland 44-02 Deluxe (Skyline) I know that it's an awesome bass, very easy to play, but it hasn't really got a place in my stable at the moment, so I'm thinking about moving it on (if anyone is interested). I'm just waiting for my Jazz build to be finished! Eye Candy: Si
Its nice to see this Body finally being put to use (something I never had the time to do), its looking good Si, a bit supprised you decided to stick with black! but you cant knock black on maple now can you?
Yeah, I mean I had started the build with a couple of other colours in mind, sunburst & white etc, but I started wanting something a little less 'vintage' looking. I also started getting jealous of all the lush looking black on black basses being touted around the 'Porn' section lol. I'm really pleased with how it's all come together, it hasn't been a quick process, but nothing worth having ever is! Yesterday I purchased the last little bits and pieces, 2nd stack knob, black scratchplate, pickup switch etc, it's all basically ready to assemble when the neck is done, will being coming out on tour with me in November Cheers guys Si

Not one mention of a serial number, not one picture of a neck stamp hmmm Si

I think it's important to remember that it's difficult to give specific advice without actually hearing what you're writing a bass line for. It's all very well slating guitarists and taring them all with the same brush, but what if he's simply giving you his opinion about how you can make the song better!? So while I concede that there are some egotistical guitarists out there who know very little about taste and good song-writing, I have to say that most that I work with are creative, friendly and really know what sounds good! Si

My covers band has one guitarist My originals band has two I think the Eagles get away with it because: 1) as has already mentioned, they're arrangments are second to none 2) Each of them often plays piano or organ = they are multi-instrumentalists 3) As with maiden, they have some harmonised solo lines which obviously require 2 guitars, and in my opinion I always like to hear a guitar doubling the bass whilst anything solo'y is happening = 3 guitars. But these are exceptions, most bands that have more than two guitars, and even some bands with two, really haven't a clue how to use them effectively! Si
-
In what context are you playing them? Bedroom? Gigs? etc Because in my experience, a bass that feels and sounds great in one of the above situations doesn't mean it is the same in the other situation! Si
