1. And if anyone wants a Tort scratchplate for it, I've got one for sale! Good luck with the sale, have a bump Si
2. It might be that when they replaced the saddles (clearly replacements), they put the screws through the string holes, and the string ball ends through the saddle screw holes!? Wouldn't that shift everything over a bit!? Si
3. So I've just finished tracking 'Through The Exterior', just about to start some editing...some string noise to silence etc etc I've decided, after fiddling about with some sounds, that I'm actually going to record active, the only reason is that the Bartolini is so underpowered when run passive that even the Sansamp is struggling to give it some oomf. I love Bartolinis, but this one really does need the 18v East preamp to sound any good! This particular song (as well as others that I'll mention along the way) has pick parts as well as finger parts, so I've been using a Dunlop 2mm 'Big Stubby', and also just taken a delivery of some Brit Pick 2mm's as well (band endorsement), made from recycled plastic...check 'em out! TTE SansAmp settings: I've also started 'Wire Forms' tonight, but that'll get finished tomorrow. Same Sansamp settings. Si
4. Don't get me wrong, I really do agree with you ThunderThumbs! But I can still see why a Bride & Groom might think "well it's our day, we want our music", it's not how you and I would do it, but I can understand why it happens! But yeah, first dance whether it played by the band or on an iPod should always be adhered to obviously. We've learned plenty of one-offs for first dances Si
5. Why is it pointless? It's the bride and grooms day....why should they listen to 70's junk, when they could listen to songs that actually mean something to them! I agree that a band needs to have something for everyone to a degree, and it's their job to get everyone up dancing, but the bride and groom should be able to listen to whatever they want when it comes to the DJ. Si
6.
This guy should be able to sort one out for a reasonable price
+1 for this guy!! Good price, good comms and great quality work! Si
7. Ah cheers mate, appreciate it! I don't think I've listened to the original enough to know what it should be haha! I think a good friend of mine tried out for Wag The Dog actually, couple of years ago now, if you were still playing in the band then! Big guy called Dave, probably turned up with either a Strat, Vigier or a PRS Si
8. I think the price is a tiny tiny bit too much! Refins are generally half price, and like gareth said, only wanting to be constructive, with a different pickup and no case, I'd probably look along the lines of £700 - £800 Good luck, I do bet it sounds amazing! Si
9. Well, depending on the bunce, my band Re:Cover would be interested! And we've got PLENTY of gigs that the couple can come and see us at in london leading up to it! All modern stuff apart from the odd interpretation of some oldies....9 minute 'Superstition' anyone! Also check out the "video" medley we did....the footage is made up from 3 different takes, but the audio is live from one of the takes. Si
10. If you use Newtones, you don't have to use 5 string set gauges or fiddle with the nut Si
11. 'Horse Hunter' by Dillinger Escape Plan and before that was 'All For You' by Wallis Bird! Si
12. Mudvayne do well enough that way! But yeah, if the guy was any kind of decent guy, he'd honor the gig and leave after that...basic etiquette! Si
13.
If you have time, Newtone strings can handwind a set of strings for you in the standard string gauges you normally use but with a higher tension core so that you can detune without having to take a file to your nut. Delivery is normally a few weeks but price is comparable to standard decent quality strings
+1 I tune to Drop C standard in my band (C, F, Bb, Eb) and use Newtone High Tension strings, because of the higher tension I can use 45-105 on a 34" scale neck and still get a tension and action similar to that of a standard tuned bass! And all for the price of a set of Elites or Rotos Malcolm is a great guy, and if you just tell them the tuning you're using, they'll work out a tension that'll work for you and your scale length. Good luck Si
14. So it's the Shandys you're gonna blame when you see your UK mobile to US mobile phone bill? lol There was a big 'ol interview with him about all of this in one of the bass rags, quite an interesting read, he seems to genuinely care about what players really think, which can only reflect well in the gear! Si
15. So ok, Bass all setup, work area cleared, computer de-fragged. Have some photos of the 'setup': The Bass: OLP MusicMan Stingray with Schaller tuners, Bartolini Humbucker, 18v 2band East preamp with active/passive push/pull pot, (tuned C, F, Bb, Eb) with Newtone high tension 45-105 strings The DI: Sansamp Programmable Bass DI, photographed here with the 'SVT' setting The Preamp: Focusrite Platinum TwinTrak Pro I'm thinking at this point that I'll save the two new 9volts I've got for my bass and just record passive, let the sansamp do all the work. Anybody have any views on active basses into active DI boxes? Si
16.
Seeing as you mentioned it. Your web pages take *ages* to load (I didn't check why but I will if you like), the picture is missing and the show dates are a year old. I conclude your band is no longer in existence (if I bothered to wait for the page to load that is, which many won't). Whatever else you do, keep it simple, keep the information easy to find and don't do anything that'll make the punters stop looking.
A sign of the severe lack on traffic going through it, whereas the myspace is updated daily if not hourly (much easier and quicker than standard websites) and has enough consistent traffic to keep us in the top 15 unsigned 'progressive' bands on myspace, we've previously been top 5 for weeks on end....no mean feat! I'm not bragging about 'how big we are' (because we're not), just commenting on the fair amount of consistent traffic going through the myspace. When the album is complete, the website will be revamped with some relevant artwork and other bits and pieces, but will most probably just link directly to the myspace! Oh and with regards to loading times...the myspace profile loads perfectly quickly on my lil 'ol laptop Si
17. My band still has a website, a .com, but it gets next to no traffic. We advertise it along with the myspace address and myspace takes all the hits! Regardless of how long the 'fad' has left in it, I'd rather spend those 2 years taking advantage of it rather than flogging the current dead horse that is standard band websites, and missing out on all the potential publicity! Si
18. Myspace & Facebook!! as if anyone looks at standard band websites anymore lol Si
19.
They look like rotosound Piano Strings where just the core goes over the bridge - not the same as tapered.
Ya learn something everyday! Si
20. Ahhh good, the London show is on a Monday....it's in the diary! It's the day after the 'London Tattoo Convention' weekend, so might just stay in town Si
21. By 'top-load', do you mean something like this?: And yeah, I mentioned tapered strings, although I don't know much about them. There's a review of an F-Bass in last months 'Bass Guitar Magazine', and that had some crazy tapered strings on it! Here it is: Si p.s I've just literally noticed that the F-bass is using that HipShot bridge.....a solution paul?? That bridge with some tapered strings, or at least a tapered F#
22. We're recording in a number of different places actually. The guitars and drums were recorded at our guitarists studio in Denham, South Bucks. The vocals will be done there as well. The bass parts will be done in my humble little home studio, but the raw audio of Sansamp into Focusrite into Cubase will be great, and we can Re-Amp if it's not quite right. Then all those parts are being sent to Acle's studio in Milton Keynes for his production magic! As of yet, I'm not sure where it's being mixed and mastered, the former probably in Denham or Milton Keynes, but the latter definitly somewhere and someone seperate. Have a 'Writing Session' video: Si
23. Paul here is a good mate of mine, I'm glad that people just suggested the two things I did....makes me feel warm and.....well....right lol I know Dood uses Darklord strings on Doodle (his 7 string paul), but I pointed him in Dood's direction more for advice on bridges. Si
24. The guitar parts were recorded through a 'Valve Company' 3/100 head (http://www.the-valve.com/3100.html , check Adam out in the 'artists' section) & Marshall 4x12 into the same two channel Focusrite that i'll be using, and then into Logic 7. The signal was split (hence the 2 channel Focusrite), so everything they recorded also ran a clean signal to another track for any further re-amping possibilities! Re-amping will be through any number of amazing bits of software the producer (Acle of Fell Silent) has to hand via Nuendo....don't ask me lol. But he also has Diezel and Engl heads/cabs handy as well. Si
