  1. I think that's just the nature of Fender's, moreso the 70's stuff. All the parts were just pulled from parts-bins when needed, so the dates are all over the place. The usual place to start is that ones bass is the age of the youngest part, ie in your case the bass would have left the factory in '75 as that is when the neck is dated.....unless it's a non-original neck. Just means the other parts were hanging around at the factory for a bit. Si
  2. That’s light for one of these, someone should jump on this!! Si
  3. For short period I had a Sire V3 2nd Gen 5er that I ripped the preamp out of and just ran fully passive. Sounded fantastic. Personally I think the pickups in those basses are underrated, or rather, overshadowed by the preamp. Si
  4. Horray, BB Bass Pre on the way :D

  5. To be fair, are these sellers saying they are newly built? Or simply referring to the fact that they’ve not been owned before? Essentially ‘new old stock’. Si
  6. Best filter on the market! It’s madness to me that anyone sells them. Si
  7. They'll come back around again, and will be well worth the wait, but they're just experiencing the same issues as all the other manufacturers. Si
  8. La Bella flats on a Precision is just the BEST Si
  9. If their order book is such that they can up their prices while not up'ing their work-load, obviously they're going to do it. Doesn't put them over and above any other custom builders really. Welcome to capitalism?! Si
  10. Most (decent) interfaces will have Mic/Line/Instrument inputs (with the instrument input essentially being a DI). Mic input will almost certainly be an XLR connection. Line/Inst inputs will almost always be 1/4" connections and have a switch to go between Line/Inst, as they are different levels. The only real reason you'd go through a 3rd party DI is if it imparted a particular tone that you wanted to capture. Si // Focusrite
  11. I think their two Hollowbodies were running concurrently for a time, so they’re not strictly two versions of the same model. But yes, the shorty hollowbody is a different prospect altogether. Si
  12. I know Bartolini are also having availability problems, last I spoke to them, they had a load of stock sat on boats that are being held out on the water, issues with them docking or something. Very odd Si
  13. If it makes you happy, and you can afford them, you should buy them! Si
  14. Eugh, would love this, just at the wrong time for me though. Si
  15. That's a hard pass from me haha Si
  16. I think they look great, nice dark green, really nice walnut, the pink is a nice vintage shell pink. Good on Gretsch! Si
  17. I'm sure it's an excellent amp, and the DG crew know what they're doing VERY well.......but yes, the e500 logo/font is AWFUL, along with no 'Darkglass' or 'Exponent' on the front, very odd branding choices. Si
  18. Yes, but then we wouldn't have had words used like 'compliant', which is the perfect description! Si
  19. Appreciate these Q's weren't for me, but my 2pence is..... I find tapes comparable to flats with regards to longevity, which I think in part is why they're more expensive, companies know that they're inherently going to sell way fewer of them compared to Roundwounds. Certainly when I put flats and tapes on a bass, I largely assume I'm not going to replace them for a LONG time. I gigged my last set of Gold White Nylons a lot and didn't hear any drop-off in tone. Those strings only went because I sold the bass. When I bought the bass back (sans the strings unfortunately), I put on some White Nylons and while they're still relatively new, I assume I won't change those strings for years now. Tension wise, they are low tension! Kinda the opposite to flats, and lower still than roundwounds. Some people really don't like them for that reason, but for me it's one of the reasons I love them most. If you have a particularly heavy touch, you're going to likely have to change your approach, but if you're quite light-handed, you're doing to love them. They also bend really nicely for vibrato. Si
  20. SOLD Putting this bass back up for sale/part-ex, as incredible as it is, I realistically don't need more than two Precision’s haha. Price is: SOLD Open to trades or part-ex’s, 4 strings, would primarily love a Guild Starfire II, but potentially open to Spectors (but only dark/black gloss) or Kala U-Bass. No maple fingerboards or probably any sunburst, or anything weighing much over 9lbs. The MVP is 'As new' condition, as well as coming with a fantastic Access Stage 3 gig bag which are an extra cost as standard (seriously, these are Mono beaters.....and I love Mono cases), and beautifully set up with La Bella Black Tape Nylon strings (another £50 value there). I can take off £75 if you don't want the case, which can be seen here: https://modernvintageguitars.com/modern-vintage-shop/access-stage-3-deluxe-gig-bag-for-bass-guitar/ I would prefer collection/meet-up, however we can discuss shipping at your cost/risk, only if you're having the gigbag too however, for shipping safety. In any case, details are: •Heat Treated (torrefied/roasted) Maple Neck •Matching Shell Pink Headstock •Indian Rosewood Fingerboard (this example is very dark and resembles Brazilian rosewood, really beautiful fingerboard) •43mm Nut width •Clay dots •Licensed Hipshot Tuners •‘Vintage Voiced’ Pickup •Steel Bridge Saddles •Period Correct Alder Body •3-ply Pickguard •Weight: 8.4lbs Sound clips available on request Cheers Si
  21. To be clear though, this isn’t a US Lakland, nor do I believe it was built by them. Mr Lakin was also not a luthier, he was the ‘ideas’ guy (and excellent at it I should say), so do you know who built the bass @Alberto Rigoni? Si
  22. Absolutely love that! Not the right time for me to buy it unfortunately.......but I'd be jumping on that! Si
  23. Ooooo, someone pick up those White Nylons, they're awesome!! Si
  24. Alright, think we're done for anything worthwhile here. Si
  25. I think it's just Stratton being a business person in the guitar industry. My understanding is that they (Stratton/Dart/Vulfpeck) buy the production for x amount of basses upfront, and then sell them on at a profit. If you dislike that, in my mind, you dislike the business model of any brand that outsources the production of their instruments. Si
