1. Eden. but there is nothing in the sound that a decent rig can't get to IMO. But...Eden WT could do some extreme tone shaping, IMO. if required. For this gig... DB750 and DB410... or 2x210's. or 810 if you can justify the cab. The amp is killer on decent stages... too much for a pub tho, IMO
2. IMO, there is nothing inherrently shaped about the bass sound, it could be anything in the studio. There is nothing in the sound that says it is typical Smith or MM.... altho it may well be... but it could just as easily be a jazz.
3. Subaru Legacy type est They say 2.5l upwards is a hoot and well specc'd. Travelled to the alps in a few and they are very good on the autoroutes. Depends how good the 4WD/AWD needs to be. Friend of mine used a Toerag on snow without winter tyres and it was woeful.. With winter tyres, different beast.
4.
I would say you are referring to a supergroup JTUK? Chickenfoot, them crooked vultures etc
Yes, agree, Supergroup, Superband. I could pile in with peoples defintion of super group but I had a late night so..?? They all seem to have made a heep of money...and as we all know, that isn't easy. Sure, luck plays a part... but how many of us think they could do the roles..?? I've seen a drummer of a MASSIVE group mentioned here play local and ...well, you can get where I am going but he has a career in stadium rock and his CV is mightily impressive but at the local gigs... hmmmmm Interesting thread is what makes a player good enough.
5.
Whoever that bloke in Muse is.
See, what makes a superband..?? I wouldn't call them a super band as they were unknown before... ditto U2 That is not to say they aren't worthwhile etc etc ... but they aren't a super band by definition.. IMO Superbands, to me, is a band made up of already well respected players. Cream..?? Derek and the Dominos..?? CSNY. In that regard, I'd say Stuff... Gordon Edwards wasn't in the same league as the rest, altho I thought he did ok.
6. 210 and 115 cabs is a classic combo and I've really rated mine.....but I prefer 10's so I'd pair another 210 with the 210. I think matched cabs give you the best chance of working together really well. FWIW, I've always thought 115 a useless cab for bass
7. Why would you need to add another cab..??
8. Can see this working pretty well.. Whether you would want to cart the whole thinga round for gigs is another question, but I can't see why this would not all add up well enough. You must be happy with the cabs and know what they'll do..
9.
Personally, i'd suggest basic repetition exercises. Start with arpeggios so that you can familiarise yourself with thirds, fifths and sevenths, then move on to the other scale tones and finally chromatics. The problem with songs, for me, is that once you realise that a 5th is ' Star Wars', then what? What if it's a 5th lower? It's easier to simply recognise the intervals than to apply a song to each one. If you can, sit at a piano or keyboard, hold a root note and play the various intervals against it.Its easier and clearer to hear than doing it on the bass.
Best education was playing with a proper jazzer who really knew his way around the keyboard and some of the chords and progressions he came up with really kept you on your toes... The places you can get to from a standard 12 bar..?? To this day I'll never just play them with 3 chords. I do think you need to hear intervals if you are going to be any sort of busker.. I'd worry if someone couldn't hear 4th and 5ths at a pretty early stage..
10.
Interesting thread for me. I've currently got a 3 series coupe. With the prospect of gigging again in 2013 I need something to get my gear in. Couple of basses, amp, cab and assorted odds and ends. I've thought about 4 x 4 but the usual off-roader type vehicles are too high off the floor. I'll be looking for something with a low floor line like an estate car but nwhich one
did for me well enough, altho the cab needs thinking about, but I'd rather do that that change the car. I used to get 2x112 or 2x2210, 2 basses amp, kit bag and lights plus a pasenger
11.
Mondeo estate ticks all the boxes for me.
Like a cavern inside.... Looked at one, decided I didn't need all that room for 99% of the time...and didn't want to get lumbered with any miore P.A stuff either.. Bought a sporty Mazda which is easily big enough..and I hardly need the back seats down. even if I am carrying 2x20's and lights
12.
The disadvantage of 'You just play them over and over until they stick.' is that an instrument is required.
The main reason you will want to know them, IMO, is to busk the tune so I don't see that as a disadvantage at all. If you know the tune, you chart the intervals in your head and you've nailed it.
13. You just play them over and over until they stick. You should at least get to hearing a 2 tone shift and a flatened 5th
14. Everything fits in a holdall inc fusebox, toolkit, etc etc. The only I might need to add is a decent soldering iron.
15. I normally like him but this a bass feature within a song .... I think it is ok in the throwaway context of these things. In general, I like spikey dynamic parts and for me, they work better in short bursts. I like his playing.
16.
I assume you don't all have iPhones with built in calendars already.
Doesn't matter, just assign iPhone to whichever calendar. I have an iPhone and Samsung that both point to Google calendar. iPhones are for dummies... Couldn't be easier
17. Well... Video cams or phones are a complete lottery re the sound. We have had good and bad results with these basic point and shoots but we never expected to be able to use them. It depends on quite a few hit and miss things, IME. Best audio we had was a Zoom H2..?? IIRC... as we able to regulate the input into the mic so the audio picked up the mix without clipping. The rest of the core sounds and playing came across and was a useable reference. For me, the drums don't drive the tracks..but to be fair, a better mix might allow me to elaborate. I think the drums need to be big and at the forefront as they have to dominate...or at least not get swamped by twin gtrs. I would think your sort of material needs a very good P.A and sound... as the gtrs will invaribly be very powerful and over-dominant very easily. The vox are hard to cut thru unless the P.A has a lot of volume to give..as those low vox tend not to project.

Sometimes the threads aren't fully updated..even if it says sold pending.
19. Not Ashdown.... If you rated Eden, then I don't understand how Ashdown gets into the conversation I had their Evo 500 plugged into some cabs I was selling ...and the cabs were pretty clean and all the amp did was stink up the sound no matter what I did... I understand why people might say they are muddy..
20. My basses ..and my kit generally... looks well looked after...but that is because it has been well looked after. I hate dings in the neck and would have the neck re-lacquered if I could feel it whilst playing. They are working basses so they will get knocks.... but that doesn't mean I will invite them. So, no to the relicing thing for me.
21.
JT , the EQ are not knobs. The only EQ is in the menu system, which are freqs that have to be set. EG on the low shelf which has a minimum of 31hz, i can set that at anything between 31-80hz, and can boost or cut On the mid 1 which has a minimum of 80hz, i can set it anything between 80-250hz and boost or cut. On the mid 2 which has a minimum of 250hz i can set that at anything between 250-1000hz and boost or cut. On the high which has a minimum of 1000hz, i can that at anything between 1000 and beyond to boost or cut. There no other EQ adjustments I backed off the input gain a tad, and this softened the grind a bit, then boosted the output to the power amp,
Yes..was talking about a dial... and got lost in the analogy...sorry. A lot of pre amps have variables like this...and you think you will want the lows but you really don't. What is the db cut and boost..? Would guess about 0-5 plus and minus. I would probably start out around 60hz... no lower..and start with a small boost. The mids will be the case of playing around...but just to keep it simple... until you get to know how the pre works in terms of sound..I'd keep everything plus..or boosted....around 1.. If it sound horrible, cut by increments of 1. This will likely be quite a labour... so small adjustments all going the same way... rather than random cuts and boosts..as thta just confuses where you are with it all... especially as you will probably have to open a menu or sorts to recall where you set everything.. I had a variable pre like this insid a bass...was a nightmare to get to grips with...!! Have to say, dials are easier..even 4 band para's which this seems modelled on.
22.
There's only 5 of us in the band but we have a pilot who gets his long hail flight allocation quite a way in advance and a drummer who's in 3 other bands and who works on a 'first come first served' type basis. Being able to check if we can make a gig quickly is easier than calling all four other members and cross-referencing individual calendars If I use Google does that mean everyone has to have a Gmail account?
It is perfect for this... one dedicated account for the band. Everyone uses it and assigns their phone to it and it is there to call up anytime you like.
23. yep, Google. One u/n and password... sorted.
24. We can't see what effects he might be running... but they aren't out front. I'd expect to get close, with the bridge pickup and presense rolled off and chrous.... and then your left hand will need to do a bit of work in the lines that you try and play...but I would say his sound is processed more than that. The chorus makes quite a difference tho. OT.. I think Joe B gets quite a lot of flack..?? don't know why..
25. Best amp ... great price.
