Always favour T strings myself and now I get Newtone to make me some from their Diamond series ..so I have all strings with a taper as opposed to the norm of B and E strings.

In 5 hours, I doubt much of that will be about getting a great bass sound...he will just want something he can work with, so you need to be quick about getting it..and helping him out. Use the gear you know... and make sure your kit is good and ready to go.

Depends on the type of gigs but I can't see the point of studio tracks on the CD so we use live recordings and video on our website. The venue wants to hear you live not a track you have had to clean up. But 50 dead cert people turning up trumps just about everything

vibrato, string bending, 'string knocking' - what do you reckon?
JTUK replied to tedmanzie's topic in General Discussion
Vibrato is a great skill and livens up a line so well, IMO..and it isn't easy to do with all fingers altho 1st and 4th are the most commonly used. Bending is a cheaper option and doesn't work as well...and neither do hammer-ons...generally. Palm slaps or RH strum slaps or rakes are all cool in a percussive sense, IMO. -
See a doc. Lower your action and don't press so hard.
This... and this is why you don't want a harmful agressive hard-hitting technique as well....IMO. I don't know if you have this...but I see a lot of guys beat the hell out of getting the notes out and I assume it will come back at them at some point in time.

I think all are valid but face to face or phone call are best. If you get talking to the booker...you can duck and dive any way to get the gig... assuming you can deliver on your patter whereas mail, txts. etc are easily dismissed or forgotten. Same with websites and CD's.. altho you might need them as backup at some point for your audio or videos links. FB is ok... as it can be active chat. If you have a website, don't bother with myspace, please... it looks so chummy and half-cocked. If someone sent me a link to a Myspace bandpage, as their core website, I'd write them off as jokers/delusional :lol;

I think they will sort the amp of course, but you have next to no chance with the cab...as per Dr M's post

Always thought I liked maple boards, and to a point I still do, but I found the sound in RW..so RW it will be for my next build Have one of either...as long as they play and sound great
Hmm, yeah probably not the best time to chuck up a 'show me your rigs cause I'm curious!'. Yeah, that looks pretty tidy though! JTUK, thats a mesa rig? I was toying with that idea for a while, but price point is a massive issue for me. I never really noticed much difference going between my ampeg SVT3 pro and genz shuttle 9 when I changed over.
Actually it isn't Mesa, sorry, I used the term as the amp is big head but it is a DB750 thru 2 DB210's. I think it is a more modern and usable take on the big Valve amps and weighs almost as much due to the massive power stage. It is part of my anti Class D/NEO thing

Or 2xGS112's.. cheap as chips and a bigger sound than most. Drummers who love the bass also love these. Too dark is a good way to describe them so I didn't keep them but with new strings these were better than the more 'celebrated' cabs I use now, to my ears. The problem being, for me, as much as i liked them with new strings, they weren't able to cope with what I wanted, dulled off But if you like the 412, then I think you'll get on very well with the 2x112 idea which is a nice carry and compact rig. If you don't mind the size and weight, the GS212 should do the same job

or..write it down but hand it to him face to face to read... that way, you can say you have given this some thought and these are the points you have have come up with...as opposed to getting all eager to spit out what ever comes to you in the monent, from your angst over this The only thing about a confrontation is your expectations from it... If you want to TRY and salvage something.... don't put him in a position where he may feel he has no choice but to reject it out of hand.. Give him some room to recover and therefore suggest how the others may have been less than perfect as well. If you stay reasonable and less keen to load ALL blame on him, you may also come across as the reasonable one who didn't want a fight..and the others might be inclined to back you more... If the don't..you also have your answer, anyway, as far as you are concerned.

I don't like to see aimless party trick type stuff in a abnd context for any period of time.. Fills, 2 bars licks is enough, IMO, unless you want to get into chummy riffola ala the like of Flea but you'd have to really like the band to go down that route
-
Yep...doesn't look right to me. That is aside from the Class D micro thing as well. My No 1 rig is a big block and cabs anyway...but that is because it sounds the beans.
-
Used a mains lead that iuse for most of my amp stuff with a new amp and it promptly blew the fuse. Put 13A in and all well. The power up is known to be huge on this amp..and this has fixed it.
-
Cruch time..crunch time..nada..!! But the issue needs to be tackled, even if you need to use your own way of doing it. IMO.
Wait for the next rehearsal and when he wants to 'save himself' wade into him about lack of commitment, being a lightweight and wasting everyone else's time (you could then tack on on that he's a rude b@57@rd too, in for a penny etc) and see what happens. Chances are everyone else in the band will pile in, if they don't you know where you stand and will have had the catharsis of unloading.
Like it.... The OP himself calls this Cruch time..and this sounds quite a crunchy approach to me. Somethings just have to be done...so get it over with.
I'd rather just keep my ashdown ABM 400, if that's ok?
sure, if you make do with that, then keep it..

There is always another band...and this sounds far from a band. Life is too short....
-
Just get a DB750 and you'll need need to worry about it ever again...

Can the X Factor judges hear what we hear on the TV?
JTUK replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
I don't know who the judges are but can't recall any real singers so don't doubt they can't hear the pitch. Cheryl, Danni, Louis, Cowell..??? and whoever else..what do they really know about singing...?? They might know what sells and how to manipulate a market, but they aren't musical, IMO. Cowell kicked off Dan Pearce from his bootcamp and kept the likes of Ollie Murs....that tells you all you need to know about the show..... and him Barlow has a reasonable voice, so would expect more from him, justabout. The only slack you might cut the contestants is that they are suddenly on a BIG stage in front of TV and that is some jump if they haven't even put any time into performing live..at all... -
or.... some places are just too small....

A friend of mine thinks I should join a band again.
JTUK replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
With such a negative attitude who can argue against you? I don't understand why anyone would develop a skill and buy good gear unless they have the ultimate goal of playing in a band in front of an audience.
Got to go with this.. If you need convincing, your heart doesn't sound in it, so I suggest you come back if and when you feel like it. Maybe you need a spark and a push, but anymore than that and you'll not make the thing work, tbh and you'll be wasting everyones time. Harsh..?? maybe... but you are either commited to a reasonable degree or you aren't. -
Which cabinets do you use with your Markbass Little Mark III?
JTUK replied to lloydage's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use mine with either 1 or 2 Aguilar GS112 cabs. I get a nice full, rounded sound out of them. Most of the time I have the tone controls on the amp at 12 o'clock and the VLE at about a quarter.
Good full cabs with great low end. New strings and the cabs are great... but for me, when the strings dull off... I went hunting the sound too much for my liking. -
All fine here. Gigging solid till after crimbo now. Minster this weekend then Birchington and Ash so doing some miles.
might as well stay over....
