So you don't recommend me connecting a 1x15 to a 4x10 even if it's made by the same company and are advised to go together? I just need to understand all the ohmage and wattage when going from 8 ohms to 4 ohms then i can start purchasing.
Any 2 cabs at 8 ohms will run with your amp so you are correct to want to do this. The cab config choice is another issue.
-
I'd say the amp puts out the full power into 4 omhs so if you want the bigger sound, I'd be looking at a 610. It will do away with the need for 410 and 115 and still look the part..and sound the part, IMO. There was a Berg NV610 on here a few months back so I'd start with that. A typical 610 would be about 1mtr and a bit high and take around 800watts easily if the drivers are good but with wheels and tilt back system should be easier to lug around that a 410..and not too much heavier in and out of the car. They should be around 4 ohms as well.

Eden of old was quality gear... but they did the same as SWR did ( and many others ) and sold out to a larger company who would want to streamline costs and probably move production East. Whether you think it is the same gear now or has the same quality or kudos is down to you. For me, I accept I might have to pay a premium for a western salary to build it ..not getting into the argument of whether they are actually worth that premium on certain kit, but I don't see the value ...for me.. to pay all the differential to shareholders. So, IMO, old Eden kit...top draw...not so sure I would pay that money now. I also get the impression that their model line needs updating..

I'll take a punt... £650-700 but I could be way out. and you need to find a buyer these days that will pay it

Most hateful song on your covers bands set list?
JTUK replied to Dave Tipping's topic in General Discussion
Starlight f****** Muse song. Sh*te bassline, it is b******* -
Any cover is going to help protect a cab, but the Roqsolid ones are quite thick and both my cabs are as new after nearly 18months. Well worth the money. .....but, i don't go crashing these cabs into the back of a van.. they travel in my car and are loaded by me and that is enough to cater for 90% of little bumps. It is like the difference in a gig bag and a hard case. Hard cases are for rough-ish use, soft bags/covers take the sting out of little bumps and scrapes.

Advertising your band how much is enough £££££

We have a kitty and these things come out of that. -
We only run a small self run pubsize PA and switching on/off has never caused a popping problem. The singer invariably switches hers off in between songs as a matter of habit. Also it's handy to eliminate the onstage(corner of pub) waffle that inevitably starts up at half way. I just want to upgrade to a better mike and the industry standard sm58 fits the bill nicely.
Sm58's are imfamous for picking up everything and the voice..... so maybe look at alternatives to the 58 so you deal with the singer 'having' to switch off the mic and the mic not picking up background at the same time.

My tendency would be towards the 2x210 over 212's....but in this case, I might go with 212+210 if they stacked up ok. But... it depends on which amp.
-
Heard MB and Epi together and notice it is a common alternative to MB cabs. Depends if you like the typical pillowy low mid sound of this combo. In that sense, it is almost a straight swap... but maybe the Epi could sound more rounded...?

If you could step into somebodys shoes for a time . .

I'd like to have had Nathan East's gigs..for the most part. Varied enough not to get too bored... -
If you can live with the QC on your particular bass, then ok. If the person who may buy it off you can do the same, then no problem. I couldn't...as I don't see much of a reason for this shoddy workmanship...no matter how you want to dress it up.
-
My thinking is a 210 is not a standalone cab for a decent gig, so you should always expect to have to carry the 115 as well unless for very quiet gigs.. so anything more than that is a bonus. I don't like the idea of 2x115 myself but if you can live with it, then all that gives you is more of the same, but MORE. 1x115 against 212.. I'd go for the 212 ...but that means you'll sell the 115. If you are willing to do that, then the 212 is the compromise cab...if you can get one at 4ohms for the full power of your amp. If you are willing to carry 2 cabs..then adding a 210 to your 115 seems the easiest way around this...as you get full power in a full range-ish cab config.

what do the other guys in the band play to...?
Just gig it.
yep....
-
Phil, so how does this manifest itself when we're playing Staccato funk bass line or an 8 in the bar bass line or a walking 4 in the bar across the whole neck? How much of the science doe we hear in the sound?
If it sounds great, then the science is out of the window...and I don't know any proper player who would say otherwise.

If I see a bass I might like and it look interesting, I might give it a closer look to see whether I could even play it. If I can play it..then I might go through a few motions, but if it is going to be any sort of struggle, I put it straight back. As for what I play..?? whatever comes into my head which will probably be a few default exercises that I am going through at the time

Go for them all and see which ones have the most life in them...and THEN is the time to decide.
where do you get the Newtones from? Are they for electric bass?
Yes, electric but they do EB as well as acoustic http://www.newtonestrings.com/ Have them made to order ...altho I think they also have a distributor like stringbusters or somesuch. I don't see the point as Malcolm is great to deal with direct...
-
Newtones - Really nice and smooth on the hands, fairly long lasting, high quality handmade strings.
Agree..very clean string but not ultra zingey...so therefore they seem to last quite a while. Normally I am changing DR's every 3 and a bit weeks... but Newtones last far longer for me. I use the Diamond series and have all T core ..

here you go... "search" function might not be too obvious at first http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192074-what-strings-are-you-currently-using/page__st__20__p__1900308__fromsearch__1#entry1900308

Newtones. But you would be better off searching for past threads as they will be better populated with answers.

Is no band better than just any old band?
JTUK replied to 4-string-thing's topic in General Discussion
To be fair, they may have just thrown that list together for tryouts cos everyone can play them, minimal work etc. I've been known to put lists like that together for 1st jams myself.
Yes.... it might just be an easy audition set and if so, ok...alarm bells would be rininging if that wasn't the case tho.. -
Is no band better than just any old band?
JTUK replied to 4-string-thing's topic in General Discussion
I'd say no band is better than quite a few bands round here, but one music pub put on discos for 2 weeks on his band nights. I don't know how he did..but the other pubs were rammed. One was a skanky pub but had a decent band on..and the other pub had 3 indie bands on.. But a answer to the OP... yes, IMO -
Pubs are too much work for the money, IMO... but we do a few that work for us in terms on clientele, space and money. £250 upwards is the norm altho I am sure there are some bands and pubs that work lower fees..£160 maybe..??? Tickted gigs are what work for us... and we charge upwards of £750 depending on what show we give them. It has to be different to a pub set though, otherwise what is the point for the booker ..???? Parties start around £550 for friends and wedding/parties are £800 upwards. We don't play any more than 2x1hrs and we want good gigs rather than any gig we can turn over. We play for people who have referred us..and any cold calls for weddings/parties etc, we ask them to come and see us...as we play what we play and don't have a function set. Have a good look at our set list and ok it...or not..!!
