1. Things is, people know there is a labour of love element in it, so if you don't value yourself ...then don't be surprised if others don't tend to. I'd take it as an insult if anybody expected me to consider the money as a bonus..as if I am lucky to get it..?? Er.. No..
2. Bill them, unless you think it will blow any work with them in the future
3. My list would be Berg CN112x2 Aguilar DB112x2 ( on the basis that my DB212 is a brilliant cab ) and possibly SL112x2. And as an outsider, I'd have a closer look at TKS, possibly EAD but the latter 2 would be harder to find or hear.. Vanderkley as well....
4. Close. I could live with either.
5. The Jayhawks Current fave song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yejmx1FNZR0
6. Off the top of my head... bass rigs I've seen around here recently are Marshall Valve and 410 ( so old, I have no idea what model.) Fender Bassman rig. A good few SVT3's and Apmeg 410's. Hartke and Hartke 410 Ampeg VF min stack GK and 210,115. and a couple of Markbasses.
7.
Currently enjoying a DB750 into DB cabs... am considering taking out the TF550-B tonight to see if it remains a decent enough back-up or sell it.
Well, it does. I will keep it... I think the cab is the key tho...
8. What do I do it for..? I do it because I want to play, I am doing it because I want it to be good. I think I can do it better ( no reforms for old times sake for me... that ship has passed and we've moved on...) I've invested a lot getting to where I see myself ( time, effort and financial outlay..? Why would I not expect to get paid.. ? covers, originals, doesn't matter.

10.
I agree everyone has different needs, but at the moment I have not worked for a couple of years as I was medically retired due to ill health, I get a small company pension but it's not a great amount, but despite this, for me, being part of a band is like a hobby, and the money earned from gigs although very welcome, is a bonus. I'm certainly not suggesting that anyone should play for nothing, and I'm not talking about profressional musicians who do it for a living, I'm not even saying that wanting to earn money from being in a local band is wrong, I'm just pointing out that I'm surprised that so many musicians don't want to muck in, and get to know the guys they playing with.
Depends what circle you swim in. Guys who are full time do so because they can and want to. That makes them HAVE to be busy and they are mostly pretty good players. You'd want to play with them because they ARE good players and you'll want to be on the same pay scale, all things considered, if what you bring to the party is comparable. They may be the booker and do admin, run the P.A, have the name ect etc..and there might be a few quid over the top for them but not massively. Having said that, it is their gig TOTALLY, you might be on wages but you'll know what sort of money the gig is worth so you will agree to it or not, depending how you value these things. Of course, the gig needs to be a blast, and if you do it for the money pnly, then you need a lot of patience and need to put up with a lot as it becomes a job like anything else. I know a guy round here... goes out for £50 gigs if it suits him, that turned down an act late 80's because they wouldn't pay £5k a week. The act went on to become one of the biggest acts in the world and everytime I see the shows re-run, I recall it is as a very bad move. I don't know if the guy regrets that stance now or agrees but that was his policy then, so...?? A lot of guys are about and will do dates as it is a good gig ..and it is possible that they are semi-retired and don't want the hassle or...? The point being that that is their choice and they are the ones that know what they need or want to earn. Plenty of people will dep but have a min fee they'll work for..... if they have enough gigs they are doing it right, if nobody gives them gigs, they've got it wrong. BY the same token, you have to align yourselves with who you are trying to play with and the way they see the overall picture.
11. You have to be able to play the songs well and not dislike anyone in the band. Personally, I need to get the money as that endorses the idea that what we do is pretty much right,. Playing for nothing is too desperate but then so is travelling all over to get it ..so as always you need a balance. Good musicians don't work free, in 99% of cases. If anyone was any good there would be a price...so you will need a plan to be able to pay your way pretty quickly. I'd be worried about anyone who didn't ask about the money..??
12. Amen, Pete.. Persoanally I don't want anymore people to turn up at my gigs..and certainly not BC-ers.. +363+ +363+
13. Funniliy enough, I have used a fair few NEO cabs these last few years and I've not loved any of them. I currently can run a NEO rig but it isn't a first pick. I keep it as I haven't seen anything to trade for it... ( would like 2x112 ) and it is smallish light footprint.
14. If you really want something, you find a way. The most I'll do is decide to commit the money... I have it in mind to commision another bass.... but just haven't decided absolutely yet. It is not like I need it...
15. Living Loving Maid, Led Zep
16. Nice pub and decent beer. Can't make this as gigging myself. Enjoy the MILFYCREW
17. The amp goes down to 2... and I have never nad a problem with hearing myself that I need cabs up to my ears, tbh. I don't have a gig that requires 2xDB212 either so probably will not go down that route. I will keep the modular cabs so I can mix and play around with them, but atm, the DB212 is enough. If my strings went off, I might lose a bit that I feel I need, but I haven't so far. No desperate for a solution atm, and the driver may well be storage space rather than anything else..
18. Honeymoon..!! Seriously, hope it stays that way.
19.
Pros have roadies to lug the gear. Me, I run into a venue with combo in one hand, pedalboard in the other & bass slung over my back & set up as quick as I can. If it's just a straight does heavy sound better than light, then my Markbass combo sounds far better than the 8 ton 4x10 Trace Elliot combo I had & also far better than the Carlsberg, Peavey or Marshall things I had prior to that.
Tbf, everything has moved on... and some of those amps weren't a high bar in the first place...or rather I certainly recall a few horror stories..
20.
But the player might. Surely that counts for something..?
Everything.... not much to do with anyone else... ha ha !! This last summer of festivals and stages has really determined which rig to take out as far as I am concerned. but I have also had the most positive feedback from the band and a few musos ... so all good..!! What we are talking about here...IMO.. is sound and the weight behind it...Nothing to do with volume. Most amps and rigs don't have much trouble putting it out volume-wise...but it is how they put it out that is the final thing missing... It is what makes me take the heavy rig out for the most discerning gigs. My slum-it rig is TF550-B and Berg, so no slouch either at all..but it is definitely second best to my ears..
21. No, I haven't found a 610, but I have 2x DB210's and a DB212. I can run them all together, but haven't been on a stage where I can do that yet.... The DB212 is great all round....carries the lows very well, and has enough bite up top on normal stages. Once that real spike.. goes missing...but I put that down to the nuance of the stage. It was a bit enclosed and maybe the rig couldn't breathe properly..and that is where I missed the 10's... I did plan to run DB212 and DB210 but that is 8ohms each and I feel 750/4 ohms is a bit unbalanced towards the 210. I am liking the DD212 so much so far...that the DB210's might become surplus.. If the DB212 was 4ohms...then I'd run that and a 8ohms DB210, hoping the balance and power would be to the 212..and the enhance higher end would go to 210. But to use a 210, I'd have to use both...and I can't or don't go for that over the simple DB212. Hence why I am thinking I don't actually need the 210's now....?? If I add one..I don't get any more power, but sometimes I hear the 210 struggle... a tad..???? As with all these things..the compromise comes with what I can carry and what I need to carry... and the 210's are another cab to carry about with no real gains. The sound is right there for me now...so I have just OD'd on too many cabs and not being able to use them. That is the rethink. I could carry 2xDB210's ...or just the DB212.... they both sound great...monster great, IMO... but do I need them all..???
22. See, I don't think they sound as good. I think they can sound good, but they aren't the same. Put themside by side and it becomes obvious,as far as I am concerned. That isn't to say they sound bad..they are just a bit short and you know this when can run both. I run a decent quality lightweight B rig but it is definitely second best to the A rig and I am reminded of this everytime I take either out.
23. I can confirm a recently purchased DB212 paired with a DB750 is really making me rethink my cab options. Cheers Barrie, the 212 is working great.
24. what is breaking the bank too much? I'd go TH500 and a DB212.... would think you'd be thinking around £1100 S/H but you wouldn't need anything else...IMO. The DB212 is such a great cab
25. 2 festival slots at the Hop Fest. Stages were organised and we had a blast with some good crews. Ears ringing now...but great vibe all round town. The fest season is over now....for us, anyway.
