Using that diagram, how do I tell which wire is positive and which is negative? When I have one black and red wires on one pup, and black and white on the other.

Acquired some 90's p (passive) pups but am confused by both of the split coils having 2 wires coming from each. I'm used to p pups having a wire connecting the two together, then a black (ground) and a white or red (live) going to the volume pot. Here, i have one with a black and white wires, and the other has black and red wires. Do I solder the two black wires together, then is the white the ground to the volume pot and the red the live to volume pot?

Mark out the holes with a pencil onto some masking tape, use a bradawl tool to make initial holes, then screw in the screws. Simple.

Fender don't do short scale flats, but Daddario do flats for all sizes. If you want decent and inexpensive flats in any size then Status Hotwire's might be a good option! You can get short scale Hotwire's for less than £17 posted (UK).

If you have some strong mates, then a Peavey Databass is killer. Can be picked up for £100-200 these days and you wont ever turn the volume past 4! THIS THING IS LOUD.

I'm wanting to test/experiment several different p bass pickups (passive), but don't want to solder each one everytime. Its a "play at home" bass, so doesn't need robust fixings, which is why I thought if I run ground and live wires from volume pot into a 2-pin terminal, and then run the ground and live wires from the pickup(s) into that it should make it an easy change each time. Only problem is I don't know which 2-pin terminal I might need, or where to buy them?

Will be interested in your build, lots of quality parts. I've read good things about Nash 51 P's. If you have a dark body then you want to contrast it, so an off white or cream pickguard would be my choice.

The blue finish looks odd also, looks pretty poorly done.

+1. If the previous strings were fine, then doubt it's the bass. Sometimes you get duff strings - I've had a few!

Sounds interesting, what sort of tape did you use? I think I have some electrical tape which might work.

I'm putting (crudely) a p bass together from parts I have in my parts box for my nephew. However, at the moment there is bad neck dive, so to counter this I have some old Squier Bronco machine heads which are pretty lightweight I want to replace the stock (Chinese) elephant ear ones with. Now, the peg holes in the headstock are 14mm, and the Bronco ferrule's are a little bit smaller. So, is there a quick/cheat way to make the peg holes smaller without having to dowl the holes and redrill new one's?

Here's a bit of an oddball, I'm looking for some hot (we're talking 14k +) p bass pups for a project I'm working on to get a super aggressive rock/overdriven tone. Got a small budget of £35, so may have to buy used, but what pups are on the market within budget? The more nasty and dirty the better. 😁

I was in Sunderland last weekend, could have picked up the yammie then. I've never had good experiences with peeps on gumtree.
