  1. There are many places you can buy grill cloth, some do Vintage cloth like that used on the old Bakelite radios, which I think looks class.
  2. You could use a silver cloth spray, it will work but will not look as good as the fender grill which as EBS says, has a silver foil in the weave.
  3. Nice trip down memory lane, especially the Dolomite. 😎
  4. Standard mim 70s p bass? I know there is a standard 70s mim jazz, and limited edition 70s p, but where is this standard mim 70s p you speak of?
  5. Interesting you say output is comparable, as many people say the output of the Squier 50s CV p bass is weak, and upgrade to get more output and more lows.
  6. What specific pup did you have in your 51 style? An original 51-57 pup is not high output, and not that loud, especially in combination with the 0.1 cap. It would not spike a speaker as suggested due to its lack of highs.
  7. Used to run a sansamp bass driver to PA, and had a small lightweight combo as a monitor. Always worked a treat and sounded awesome.
  8. 51 single coil has a high output? That's a first for me, they are generally low output, between 6-8k.
  9. The 51 pup will have a fatter, warmer sound. The jazz pup despite position will still retain some of its honky characteristics.
  10. You can use a washing up scouring pad, the ones with yellow sponge and green rough bit. Rub the back of your neck with the green side, will remove some of the gloss leaving a smoother, less sticky neck. It won't remove any of the black paint like sandpaper might!
  11. I was referring to removing all silk from the string will result in a clump of polymer. If you simply want to remove a few bits of fluff, give it a trim with some precision scissors - no need for a lighter.
  12. Some Danish Oil on that wood will really bring out it's character. 62 CS pups, the best choice p bass pups IMHO.
  13. I wouldn't do this, the silks are made of nylon, heat it up and you will end up with a clump of polymer.
  14. Something between 1500-2000 grit wet and dry.
  15. That's karma, after your absolute steal. 😉
  16. You are right. I have the comfordable neck of the pb. You know, you can always put a jb neck on a p bass body!
  17. Nice, the SPB57. Did you put the heavy duty bridge on as it's not stock, afaik? Glad you like the PBNX. I agree, an aged MOP pickguard or cream would be the business.
  18. I can get very close to that sound with my p bass and nickel strings.
  19. There's so many head units out there I doubt you'd need to go the custom route.
  20. My first thought was the same as BassBunny, great opportunity to split the head and speaker up into two separates, which would make it much easier to move around.
  21. You are probably referring to the logo on the headstock saying Kay (with 1969) below. This refers to the Kay brand being relaunched in 1969 after being brought by and manufactured in the far East (Tawain). The Original Kay brand was made in USA and are highly regarded. The relaunched 1969 version are low cost, and low quality. The KB24 made in Tawain, looks good but is very heavy. I had one and was always fighting it to play, never again! Sold in Woolworths - tells you all you need to know!
