  1. It's good but I don't think I'd want a whole album!
  2. Pre internet I spent 15yrs with a maximum of either one or two basses (same ones too!). Once the bass forums became a thing it crept up. Then I went a bit silly, then I sold everything off and went back to just two and now it is right back up. Make your own journey and do what feels right at that moment. Whether you subscribe to the "You only need one bass" theory or "I need to own all the basses", do what make you happy, so long as it isn't crippling you with debt or impacting on family relationships.
  3. Gentle reminder - please don't offer things for sale unless they are listed on Basschat and you have a link to prove it is on Basschat. I've hidden a post. No warnings but please have a look at the rules if you are not clear.
  4. Can I remind people that Basschat rules clearly state you are not to offer items for sale if they are not advertised on here and if they are, you need to include a link to your Basschat thread. I've hidden a couple of posts.
  5. It depends how big the band is and how loud the players are. We bought a PA for my 3 piece knockabout band and I think we asked some online retailers for advice before buying. From memory go for the highest wattage you can because it's better to have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it. Most PAs have come down in size so it shouldn't be an issue in small venue.
  6. I came here in my capacity as moderator and this thread is more than a little confusing. At first I thought you meant; but then I wondered if you meant; but in actual fact, Google now reveals that you probably meant; Just so as we're clear.
  7. Just as an aside, we did a gig for the same promoter who famously stopped a Finlay Quale gig and offered the audience a full refund. This went viral about 5 years ago. My own personal disappointment that stands out was in April 1988, Def Leppard on the Hysteria tour (the curtain didn't open until about 3/4s of the way through the first song and the sound was shocking - apparently the next night was much better). I was 14 and had liked them since Pyromania. I sort of forgot about them after that.
  8. I've owned both. There won't be a bad decision here. If you can, try them to see what you prefer.
  9. I was interested in this but was going to wait until the restrictions ease and we can gig more https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/ADJ-ACA-Case-Cart-Equipment-Trolley/1LSA *no experience though
  10. Signed by Patricia Morrison, who of course mimed the bass parts to that 2nd album. The light caught the picture to the right which is Craig Adams autograph and since that was taken I have added Tony James signed poster to the right of that one. A trilogy of Sisters bass players!
  11. As per @Al Krow's post. This is a very friendly and inclusive forum, and reading this thread doesn't show Basschat at it's finest. People are struggling with lockdown but just prior to that we had the whole #BeKind movement which doesn't seem to have fully extended to this thread. If you don't like a thread, opinion or video, go find something else on Basschat that you do like. @greghagger, please do get involved in the rest of the site too. Your videos obviously show you to have a certain level of experience and something to offer so please help by supporting the rest of the site too. It's a great community. It'd be a shame to lock the thread which has developed some interesting discussion because of a few silly comments that drag it down for everybody else.
  12. Loosely related but I had a new neighbour move in last weekend. I did my usual "if bass frequencies are coming through the wall, let me know" type spiel to which she replied "It's okay, my ex is a drummer - if anything I will be asking you to turn up!"
  13. My previous rig before I returned to Orange. The head didn't wear that hat during the performance!
  14. I've got two cats so who's laughing now... er?!
  15. Agree with Lozz. The bass sounds great.
  16. I thought I'd breathe some life into this long running thread with this Good Friday phone snap.
  17. It's the thought that counts, right? 😸
  18. Despite being 48 myself, most of my bands are guys in their early to mid 50s. I assume I am there for the youth vote?! No wonder we're not more successful! We did a gig during 2020 with a 56 year old guitarist (obligatory pointing out of social distancing measure etc being in place etc) and some of the other guys are good to go for post lockdown shows. On the plus side, they are all vacinated now whereas I am still waiting. Oh and reading this thread, a Basschat Happy Birthday to @Nail Soup who apparently reaches a thread appropriate 55 today.
  19. Yep, I am afraid I did mention it first. My memory had it at a quickly fixed problem and having had three of things, I never had an issue. Certainly when it first came out they were blowing left, right and centre (& interestingly never the PF350s or the later PF800s - of which I have no personal experience with). @Beer of the Bass, hadn't clocked the weight and that would be a deal breaker!
  20. I love Ampeg and used them for years but it just looks like an overpriced Portaflex aesthetics combo. When the PF heads fit inside the cab so easily, I am not seeing any real advantages. (& before anyone mentions the problems with the PF500 heads, that was just the first batch that was quickly fixed but seemed to repeatedly get mentioned on here for years).
  21. Nice one. I was hovering over this one but funds weren't at their best to go for it.
  22. The only time you need a valid DBS check for an audition!?!
  23. It's the style I use the least and the style I rarely listen to, unless it's incorporated into a part of a bass line but I would never write off a technique fully. I am afraid I automatically think less of anyone who posts anti-plectrum comments and I guess that cuts both ways. I slapped on an old punk recording in the 90s because the producer recommended it and it worked a treat. Some of the tasteful soul playing that spilled out into other genres in the late 70s and early 80s is great. It's not how I play (strictly speaking) but I can appreciate it. Walking into a bass convention to a deafening racket of 80 players slapping the hell out of basses is an experience I would look to file under "not my bag" though.
  24. I agree. I think on many levels he is a national treasure but definitely his musicality is undervalued. John Lennon had the hip element in many people's eyes and Paul maybe less so. Similar relationship with Gram Parsons / Chris Hillman. I spent a while studying his bass lines in the earlier days of my playing and was amazed with how clever he was / is. I don't think it's necessarily just your generation. I'm 12yrs older and I would say that it is the case with most people who weren't around during the 60s.
  25. I think generally when we are young we are much more black and white in our views. I was very closed to liking one genre and didn't get that I could acknowledge a pop song as great as it didn't fit my image. I've always liked getting older as I am so much more comfortable liking what I want. And the other side of all of this is that some stuff I thought was brilliant actually wasn't anywhere near as good as I remember it.
