1. This looks great & I can't wait to see what else you own.
2.
my vote would have to be this:
I think this is the winner (even if Wotnwhy changed their mind!). The other alternative is lose the hat and just wear shades if it's that sort of look. Depending on how bright your future is, of course
3. So it's Nottingham where there are unreliable musicians?
IN a way that can be a good thing - better than having deadwood in the band that let you down worse at a later date.
Yep, 100% agree
4. Most bass players aren't interested in Guitarists who fanny about I wouldn't pay it any thought. A bit of rubbish feedback I had from a rubbish soundman back in 1996 - "the feedback was caused by the bass player jumping around too much". Er, right you are! Make no apologies and enjoy it!
5. Oh and one more thing (Columbo style!), the Take It Away Today scheme is available online at 0% finance on instruments. Could be a great way to spread the costs of a decent P-bass. I've used it 2 or 3 times myself
6.
I hope you don't mind me saying but despite some very sound comments you seem a little determined to go down a particular path. There's a lot of great bargains that come up here on BassChat and with most sellers there's a pedigree and some feedback. For that sort of money you'll see some far better instruments, in fact even for a lot less money.
I too wondered if there was a certain convieniance with this store? Even GAK and Soundslive to better deals on new US P-basses. The price drop is a fair bit better but still far from getting a great deal.
7. I assume this one must be priced for a quick sale but from another thread... http://edinburgh.gumtree.com/edinburgh/86/46661386.html
8. I was going to say a Fender Jazz has sufficient Indie cred and is similar in vibe to a Rickenbacker (to a point). In Swindon there are loads of Rickenfakkers for £499 which bar the logo look indentical to my eyes. One of those two would be my option if I was you.
9. I'd love an old bass from this era but I have no idea what they go for. Coincidentally I've spent the last couple of days on EBay looking at 70s basses. Some were as cheap as £125 and some were £350+ but none were Antoria... have you any idea on a ballpark figure?
10. I love Precision basses and have owned several (currently running at 3). The S1 switching was on the 2007 model - I have one. I agree with the comments that it works great on the Jazzes but is a bit of a waste on the Precision. I guess this is why Fender no longer install it. That price is quite outrageous though. I picked up a brand new 2007 60th Anniversary (old stock that hadn't sold) from Dawsons in Reading earlier this year for a few pennies over £600. A much better deal on a USA P-bass and the resale value will be better on an anniversary model. I'm sure you can get a great deal on a USA P-bass at several other dealers.
11.
You might nit be aware that I own the biggest bass guitar forum in Europe www.basschat.co.uk and our thousands of readers will be very interested in how I am treated in this matter" Make of this what you will - this is just my experience. Perhaps they are amazing most of the time, but I won't be going anywhere near them again.
I'd considered buying from Dawsons online and this thread has actually cost them a sale already from me. However, I can see your problem AND their predictament. I'm sure they will refund you but I can 100% see why they are reluctant - even though they have demonstrated a fairly detailed catologue of total incompetence throughout this transaction. A nightmare sale.
12. Looks great and with 2 in stock you could get a spare
13. Did a straight trade with Chris - my Squier for his Olp. Effortless transaction, easy to deal with. No hesitation in recommending him for a hassle free trade. Not as devilish as his username suggests!
14. 1) What kind of maintenance do you carry out on your instruments at home/gigs? String change, clean ups and general playing / fiddling 2) What position is it easiest to have the instrument in for these actions? (vertical, horizontal, at an angle?) On my lap mainly 3) Are there any tasks you currently carry out where you find it hard to securely orientate the instrument in an ideal working position? No not really to be fair
15. I suppose it depends on the level of protection you want. If it is in the back of a van I'd only ever use a hard case. However I pretty much drive my own gear these days so a gig bag is fine. And to be honest just adding the word quality to any EBay search should suit 99% of people's needs. I've used Fender ones, Warwick ones and all sorts - no issues.
16. Just thought I'd share my experience with http://www.amplifiercoversonline.com as I ordered a custom made cover from these people. I picked up an Ampeg Classic cab 1x15 that was attracting a lot of attention from the cat so I decided I needed to protect it. In the past I've used Silverstone who do really good quality covers but usually have a fairly lengthy turnaround. I've always accepted this as most items are custom orders. However, I was owed a refund from them a few months ago which they delivered but really dragged their heels on so I decided to go elsewhere in future. I took a shot on the amplifiercovers online site and the thing arrived made to my specs (with different coloured seams to stock items) inside of 48hrs. I like the quality of these too although the Silverstone covers are a nicer material. Still, not much in it. Anyone else get custom made covers and if so who did you go to? I have a Fender Bassman 135 head which I'm wondering whether to go all out on a flight case or just get a sturdy cover again. It's only at home going to gigs in my car so I reckon the custom cover will be fine. Right now I reckon I'll use http://www.amplifiercoversonline.com again.
17. Welcome - always up for winging it with a bit of Dylan myself!
18. I think it completelt depends on the neck wood and the scratchplate etc. I'd agree with not liking black but then when I see an all black jazz with the block inlays and ashtray covers it looks the buisness. Personally my money is on a walnut P-bass. I'd love one. I reserve the right to prefer something else next week.
19.
Don't know why anyone would expect the Police to be interested, or even able to do anything if they were. Despite the negativity above, they've got better things to do and, anyway, can only act when a law's been broken, which - technically - it hasn't.
Agreed. An awful situation but this is a civil transaction that has gone wrong and not criminal law. Going around and threatening him is criminal law. Sad but true. Your main option is a civil claim. A shame as the vast majority of transactions on this site go very smoothly indeed. Use paypal or meet face to face at agree locations people. Good luck sorting it out.
20. I always use one cab, a 1x15. I'd like to have a 4x10 to go with it but until I can pay a roadie I prefer to keep it simple
21. And that's without the amps! I'm liking the 62P bass and curious about the mandolin. What is it?
22. Love it, if I was looking to recruit a new addition I would!
23. Everyone's said it all already! Did a trade with Greg (aka Shaggy) who took my 1977 Gibson acoustic in exchange for his 1978 Bassman 135 head. The head was very fairly described, he was very easy to deal with and an all round good chap. I wish I could add something new to the 16 existing posts... During the trade Greg rescued an abandoned puppy from a burning building with no thought for his personal safety.
