What bass

I know this could be down to personal preference but, im looking for a new bass..... i'm in a band that play indie guitar bassed music. At the moment ive got a yamaha rbx paid about 200 notes for it, but now lookin to change. Just don't know what to get not well up on me basses. Ideally would love to get a ricky but just cant afford it £ 500 is the most i can afford, is there another bass which will give me a similar kind of sound ?? and still look good ?. The sound i'm after is treble with a punch without losing the bass notes. At the moment im playin through a laney amp. I know this post could leave me open to a bit of ridicule, but if you don't ask you never know !!! cheers in advance of replies what ever they may be .

  10.
It's a long time ago but the Chieftan I think was a through neck fender style bass and the Warlord was the Alembic styled 'arrowhead headstock' model. Shortly before he wound up his UK operation Ashey made a small body version of the Warlord the styling of which I 'borrowed' when I made my first fretless bass. What I find a bit strange is the mix of the two styles in the aluminium necked fretlee here - it seems to be an in between bass.
In between bass is that a good thing or bad..... can't seem to find any info on this bass or any record ???? The chieftan was a through neck fender style with all four machine heads on top, not like mine which as you can see has 3 machine heads on top and one below. I'm wondering if i've got a prototype maybe ?
  11. Took me ages to get the picture up and now i have its bloody at 90 degrees !!!!!! Oh well you get the idea. Its a through neck..... have emailed steve robinson, I only live round the corner from him. Cheers for all your replies and help. Ian

    Hi ALL

Hello everybody.... just joined the site. I'm into all sorts of music from pink floyd thro to indie. Mainly play indie stuff, no covers though are own stuff. Just started playing again after a short break...... 10 years. At the moment i'm using a yamaha bass through a laney RB5 120 watts, to get me back into the swing of things. I realise now that the RB5 isn't going to cut the mustard but im a bit tight for cash at the mo, so was wondering if i bought me self a cab to hook up to would this give me a better sound or do i have to save up to get a better amp ? I like alot of treble but still like to feel the bass end aswell and the RB5 just doesn't do it . I know from watching the site for a bit that sound is a very subjective debate but if you think along the lines of Bruce Foxton, John Jaque Brunnel you know the type of sound im after. Cheers Ian
