  1. I haven't listened. I'm p****d off enough at having to learn Daddy, brother, lover, mother, cover, bugger, whatever it's called.

No, not yet sold. Couple of enquiries, plus one for the pick ups, which is an interesting thought. Mind, it's been less than 24 hours, and it ain't exactly cheap. Anybody close enough (hell, Manchester's next door) more than welcome to come and try the bass. Not sure if secretly wanting it to take enough time for the Steve Harris inspired Precision GAS to go away, cos if nowt else this thing does look darn good ( or so all the bassists from other bands, at the last 4 gigs, have said). Thanks for the bump MB1, Cheers, Karl.

Hello John and thanks for your enquiry. It does not have "stereo" output so will never sound exactly like a Rick going through 2 amps with split signal. It has Rickenbacker pick ups installed, along with Rickenbacker wiring looms, bridge and tailpiece. Certainly sounds a lot more Rickenbacker than one of those beautiful old Ibanez's, with the "mudbuckers". What also needs remembering is that Rickenbackers do more than that sound, as McCartney and others proved. Although you may get them cheaper 2nd hand, these parts come to about £400 retail. Then there is the cost of getting them professionally fitted. On top of that since purchasing it, I have spent nearly £100 on new strings, new custom cut nut and full set up (Richard Tomson, of Tomson guitars, Wigan). I bought the bass off a guy advertising on Ebay and Preloved, around December 12th last year. It cost me £575. I did a 400 mile round trip to pick it up. The ebay item number 270492829061 is the previous owners advert for this very bass. The photo's under that item number are of this very bass. Least you are likely to get a real Rick for is about £1200 and even then, it may not be real (ask bassassin, the Obi One Kinobi of Rickenfakers). The Rockinbetter is advertised bog standard new at between £495 and £612, although most potential suppliers are cagey on wether they have one in stock. Finally, you are more than welcome to come and try the bass, with absolutely no obligation. Feel free to walk away. The only point I would make is that I will, at this early, pre ebay stage, be looking at £550 and no offers. Just being honest with everybody. Again, many thanks, Karl.
  4. Slap, pah. If I wanted to hit things I would have had the operation and become a drummer. No offence. Much.
  5. Bring back the 2nd headstock. Please sign my petition.
  6. Depending on where you are, Richard Tomson guitars in Wigan, just google. His work is the best I have had in 35 years of playing. Bloody fantastic.
  7. No prob, good luck with the sale, that really is gorgeous. Cheers, Karl. Oh, er, bumpo.
  8. Loved the Ed Force One Show, and last night's concert footage. They actually sounded better than most of the times I've seen them. Oh for a millionth of Mr Harris's talent, dedication and song writing abilities. I too am now lusting after a Precision.
  9. Once again informative and entertaining. I am ,however, struggling to take you serious since the demise of the 2nd headstock!
  10. That is stunning. Any interest in a Rockinbetter? It's currently residing in this thread, on page 2. 4001/4003 copy with actual Rick pups/wiring/bridge/tailpiece. If not, no sweat and good luck with that glorius looking bass. Cheers, Karl.

Bought this in December. I have had 3 real Rickenbackers and always sold them on. Bought this to get a "Rick" back in the amoury. Last 4 gigs, it's been tuned up then put in the stand looking pretty, whilst I use my jazz. Watching the Iron Maiden documentary last night was the final straw, I must get a Precision, so reluctantly this must go. So, its a Tokai Rockinbetter (although there does not seem to be any proof Tokai make them). Real Rick pick ups, bridge/tailpiece and wiring. Since buying it, I asked Richard Tomson of Tomson Guitars (Wigan) to cut a new nut, as the original was not great. It has had new strings and a full set up. My photo's will inevitably be crap (if I can upload!), however if you go to e bay, do an advanced search on item number 270492829061, you will find the original listing and excellent photo's. I am looking for a Precision (Steve Harris model would be great, or a white one). Alternatively around £550 cash, collected. I really do think that around £400 of mods on this make it worth about what a new one would cost. Would be delighted to answer any questions. Many thanks, Karl. Sorry, forgot, I live in Wigan but will deliver or meet up free within 50 mile radius. Further than that would need to discuss. Reduced to £500 collected.

  14. This was on evil bay a few weeks back at a bin of £1500. Remember a few chortles about it at the time.
  15. I had this cobblers on Wed night and was not popular when I said they could use my amp, after giving me a £500 cash, refundable deposit, against any damage. Been on the receiving end of somebody busting my amp (he pushed it forward, it fell over, taking out 3 rotaries). He accompanied that with a shrugged "Sorry mate". It's mainly greedy/inexperienced promoters trying to get too many bands on at one time. And too many bands desperate to gig at any cost.
  16. When he failed to reply to me, I lost interest very rapidly.

  19. If the seller had had the decency to reply to my emails, and allowed me to go and see it, I would have been in for it as well. Despite thinking it may have been a Mex re-issue, the lack of bullet truss rod end just got me thinking it may be real despite seemingly almost new nick. It also got me to thinking it may be something like an SX with a new decal? I erred on the side of doubt simply because he didn't reply. It is such a shame that someone may have spent £700 and been kippered, but the seller really seems to have been ensuring he could claim,"didn't know guv". Thank God Bass Chat is often influential with it's forumites when these potentially contentious basses come up on Evil Bay.
  20. I was torn between one of these and the Lakland Daryl Jones. Tried a few of both. Nothing really varied on the Laklands unlike the Fenders. I also found the Japanese reissues to be considerably weightier. Ended up with Lake Placid Blue, matching headstock, rosewood board and pearl inlays on my beautiful Lakky. Plays like a dream.
