1.
To be fair... you're probably paying for someone's time to type your address into the computer and print the label etc. etc. rather than the actual postage.
Hi thepurpleblob and a merry Christmas. I guess I was a bit less than impressed when they didn't bother to reply. My main point with them was that other string retailers were charging £1.50 to £2.50 to send strings. They wanted £6.99. The price of the relevant strings only varied by about £2 between 3 retailers. To me, same strings costing a total of £4 less delivered meant that Dolphin were uncompetetive. I guess all 3 retailers must have similar costs to invoice, pack and send out. Back of my mind, it's probably that decent bass strings (always subjective) are expensive, and I want what I consider to be the best all round deal, and I want to be treated like I try to treat everybody. With respect. All the best, Karl.
2. Hi folks. Had this Jazz over 20 years. Not used live for last 5, as scared of drunks falling on it.Will never gig it again, so finally decided to stop wasting it. Serial number dates it to 74, pots to 75. Bad bits. (Please bear in mind, whilst I've had it 20 years, there is 15 years of it's history prior to that) It's been stripped over 20 years ago. Nut is not original. Don't think scratchplate is original (think it should have been white). Frets are worn. It will need a re-fret at some time in the future. Fag burns, hairline splits in neck (you cant feel them, and they have been there a very long time with no change). Good bits. Very light. Very fast. Sounds fantastic (subjective) Was my main bass for 15 years of gigging. There is some discussion on this bass on the forum Bass Guitars, under the topic "74 Jazz identification issues". Sorry, I have no idea how to post a link. Perhaps the most important comment is by Lozbass. Who should be interested in this? Session musician or somebody who does gigs where the audience isn't at their feet! My feedback on ebay can be checked as karl5066. Just set up by Richard Tomson, luthier, Wigan (check him on internet). Neck/truss rod fine. Apologies for photos as I do not have a digital camera. I think I can provide an attachment of the bass live, 5 years ago, but I think this may need to go to a private email address as I couldn't do that to a bass chat address last time. If interested, £1500 cash, collected. I think it is worth that. If Bass Chatters don't agree, sorry, but it's my valuation that counts. If it doesn't go here, or later on evil bay, then it doesn't go. I will meet free of charge up to 50 miles radius of WIGAN. Only trade I would be interested in is good condition, fairly recent Rick 4003 or 4004. Right, lets see if I can do the photo's bit. Cheers, Karl.
3. The drummers cymbals will thank you for headless!
4. On the bah humbug side, I recently emailed Dolphin to confirm that a set of strings from them to me (in Wigan, i.e.mainland UK, no smarty comments please) would cost £6.99 for postage. I thought that about £4.99 too high. I never received a reply. I haven't ordered them.
5. The road to Hell and good intentions eh? With your attitude I wish you lived close to me Mokl, cos you'd be getting my basses to sort! Well done for trying. The other cliche is leading horse to water, can't make it drink. The burk deserves a crap bass! My pops always used to say "don't enter into a battle of wits with an un-armed opponent". Have a good Christmas mate, Cheers, Karl.
6. Excellent info Musky, cheers for that. Guess you were replying whilst I was writing thanks to the other guys. Again, many thanks, Karl.
7. Hells bells lads, I'd only just gone for a cuppa. Many thanks Happy Jack and Bass Doc, I'm not crying quite as much now! Wonderful how helpful you guys are. Lozbass I owe you a great debt for pointing this site out to me when you bought my ex Sei, and I hope you still love her! Thanks for the kind words on the jazz, much better from you than me. Bet you are sat in watching the wonderful white stuff in Manc? Again thanks fellas, I don't want to put something up for sale that isn't what it seems. There are a few on ebay that do that for us!
8. Hi folks and help please. I have had a '74 jazz for over 20 years, identified by serial number. The plan has become to sell it, as considering it valuable, it has not been gigged for 5 years, so is being wasted. I intended to take her to Richard Tomson in Wigan for a neck check, full set up, prior to selling in New Year. This morning, because of what I have learned on this fabulous site, I started to strip her down as I now know how to identify neck/body stamps. The 1st horror is that the neck pocket seems to show it is stripped from sunburst, o.k. at least 20 years ago, but it's happened, nowt to be done. The neck pocket seems to have an "f" and a circle with INC...31....1 in the different sections of the circle. Second horror no date stamp on end of neck. The neck has a word starting ARM..., and a small circular stamp that is unreadable. Third horror, nothing really readable in pocket. I already knew the nut was obiously a replacement and I think the scratchplate is as well, as there is a slight gap between that and the control panel(not removed plate as screws are bit rusty.. The frets are well worn and the bass has lots of "character" scuffs, marks etc. Only thing I have had done is occasional service/string change. It is also the lightest, fastest jazz I have ever had, hence why I have owned and played it for so long. The pots have the following characters(as best as my eyes allow!). 032367 250K-A 137753 I am now about to attempt to upload some camera phone stuff, I can also email photo's I think. As it appears it's not what I thought, I will just get it serviced and set up, and enjoy playing it, due to not being scared by it's previously percieved value. Many thanks for any help, clues, opinions you can give, Cheers, Karl.
9. Stunning! Looking at the 'board, is a a 70's re-issue of some kind? Cheers, Karl.
10. Ye Gods, you guys are good. It went for £390, about quarter of an hour before I got home from Scotland. God bless M6 roadworks. I believe the word is "Doh"! Thanks for all the brilliant help guys.
11. So a bloke arranges, through pre loved to come and see this tonight. I explain to a fellow basschatter and as ever, brilliant about it. Mr t£!$ from preloved has just rang to say he isn't coming now. Oh well at least he rang. Bump then.
12. Thanks lads, you lot really are stars. Now, I ask myself, do I or don't I?
13. Fish.......................more scales. I like that nearly as much as the bass.
14. Thanks guys, I thought it kinda strange, but it looks good in every other aspect. This forum is bl*^&y fantastic the way you help folk out. Delberthot are you one of the clairvoyant geezers? If so, the correct 6 numbers for tonights lottery please! As yet I haven't fathomed the mysteries of posting links, but ebay item number 270498261928. It looks good and isn't far from me, but I am a little unsure.
15. Hi folks, dont know if anybody can shed any light, but, USA active Precision, with P/J configuration, early 80's, no scratchplate, basically a bit like a Precision Lyte. Would this have the serial number at the bottom of the neck, i.e. where the date stamp would be? I have been told that to see the serial number on this bass, you have to take the neck off. Not something I have heard of with USA Fenders, so does anybody know of examples of this? Any advice appreciated, Cheers, Karl.
16.
i meant including postage, and thanks for the offer, i really can't afford it! cool bass though, good luck with the sale
I was born in Darlington, so I am often a bit slow on the uptake! Thanks for the wishes Budgetbassist. Cheers, Karl.
17. Thanks for that Noirpunk. Forgot to mention, several owner reviews for this bass at www.harmony-central.com, spookily under; basses, epiphone, explorer.
18. Funny that. I have got Angling Times and Anglers Mail weekly since the early 80's and about a month ago, I just decided they weren't worth it anymore. Only really looked at the Tackle Tart, sorry, new gear pages. Still get Advanced Pole Fishing and Match Fishing, but not really enthralled by them now. Must be a know it all, "I didn't get where I am today without knowing my Scopex from my Scillit Bang" age knda thing. Now, where's this BGM thing.
19. Er, I think I put £160, and Notts? I would meet you say Buxton, with no extra charge. No hurry, coz the one I was after has gone anyway. These can actually be had new for £279, plus extortionate delivery, from Thomann. Thanks for looking and lusting and good luck, Karl.
20. Very kind Adee, I have dropped him a note. He only lives about 20 miles from me so if he's not sorted we may be able to do something. Many thanks, Karl.
21. Hi folks. Last week I spent £220 on this Explorer Bass. I had the Gibson version for a lot of years and loved it. To me it sounded better and was more balanced than a T-BIRD, yet always looked just as rock. A real "put in the groin and head down" kinda bass. Need to move it on very quickly as a bass chatter has put something up that is on my very long time need list. The Explorer needs to help fund it. So come on you young bucks/buckesses, you know you want to look this cool. It was made in the UNSUNG factory in Korea in 2003. Few nicks on headstock/body and some buckle rash. Not perfect but nothing unusual, it's been gigged. 3 way pick up selector, volume/volume/tone controls. Always liked the brass nut on my Gibbo. Hopefully pictures will come up. £160 cash, pick up obviously preffered but I will deliver to you free within 50 miles of Wigan, otherwise probably about £20/£25 to parcel force it. The above price reflects the need to move it quickly so I can get the other one I am desperate for. If it doesnt go quickly, I will keep and add some black covered strings, black rotaries and black scratchplate so it will be a bit, er, black. Cheers Karl. Oh by the way, you can check my limited evil bay feedback, it's Karl5066.
