Sorry to hear that Martyn, fingers crossed bud. Hard to take, but it's not always for the worst. I moved back to England for a big paying job that went tit's up 8 months later, no redundancy pay, nowt. Now a few years down the line but I found a franchise that works well for me. Not rich, but comfortable and if I want an early finish for a distant gig I take it. Hard at the moment but you will move on. GLWTS and everything else.
I have a 73 4001 in Fireglo with original case, that has been valued by a bass specialist retailer at £2500, although what it's valued at and what it will sell for are very different things. As has been said, with the loan you have had £1200 sounds a great price to me. I don't think that is expensive for what seems to be a Rick in good condition, and you like this one, you may find it hard to get another one you like as much. Ta very glad BIGd
The specialist retailer will have the time to wait it out, and will be wanting to make a good bit on it. At £2500 he would be looking to make a minimum of £400/£500 on a used instrument (double that on new). He will want to make this because it is not an everyday bread and butter seller. Most likely it will be on a commission basis , so he has everything to gain, no investment, no money tied up in that stock item so time taken to sell is irrelevant. The reality is the vast majority of second hand Ricks that ACTUALLY SELL privately are going for between £1000 and £1300. NB, female musical instrument retailers are available
The shop I help in recently sold one of these that had also been set up as a passive (albeit a stacker). I totally agree that it works better in passive format. Great basses, great colour, great price, what's not to like
Yup and that one was stunning as well. As is the one you have left (normal rotaries). AS IS THIS ONE -
Better quality alternatives.
Above, oh yes! Where do you live? I live in Wigan and have 1P, 1 P/J and 2 J's. More than welcome to come and have an hour or two pratting about on them. Not much use if you live in Southampton obviously, but I bet someone round there would make the same offer if they were aware.

FEEBay is quiet a dangerous place to take value guesstimates. Obviously price is inflated as people take into account what fees they are going to get charged between FEEBay and PAINPal. On £1200 current charges are about £116. The main thing is though, many of them are out at these prices, for months on end, without selling. That to me suggests people are asking too much for them in the current marketplace. Then of course you get the further complication of 4001 being slightly more desirable because they are all vintage now. Personally, if it was a bass I really wanted, I would go through my reasoning with him and offer him £1000. But that is just my opinion. Good luck, Karl.

Thanks for the kind offers Nick and Jamie, but as it is almost new apart from that damn headstock chip, I am going to hold out for either a very good trade offer (Fiesta Red Road Worn J or P , bit of loot your way, hint ), or the £560 plus courier, or £530 collected without bag/case. The bass plus case was £840. At £560 I'm losing £280 (33%) on a year old bass and case in very good condition. A lot of folk seem to think a year old bass is worth nearly as much as a new one. Fortunately, I don't . So if neither of the above prices happen, I will just keep it for a few years, when I would guess it will still be worth around £500 as long as I look after it. Good luck in your search chaps and thanks again. DON'T FORGET peeps, I am only using the hardcase to ensure safe delivery. If you don't actually need a hardcase, flog it on locally for about £45, it will more than cover the courier cost Cheers, Karl.
Well done! I've got a PR 7051 and it's a real class bit of kit. And I've just drunkenly bought myself an Ampeg SVP Pro, so let's hear it for Ampeg.
-

No problem for me to organise a courier in the UK Jamie, however; 1. It would need to be fully insured and with Interparcel that would cost a buyer another £29, taking the total up to £589, including hardcase and insured courier delivery. 2. It would need to go to an address where somebody will definitely be in, eg work address, as the courier would need a signature. It is quite possible for somebody to arrange cheaper collection at £10/£15 if they chose not to insure, HOWEVER, I would not accept responsibilty for any damage on an uninsured bass. To me, they are too expensive to not insure in transit. Many thanks, Karl.

Never tried one but they don't look two hand tapping friendly to me. Added to which, I really do think they would look a touch out of place in the gaffs we gig at. No offence to the gaffs, we are old gits and that is what we want to play.
random I know, but any interest in a trade for an orange SP212 plus cash? I'm in Cardiff tho, might involve driving! I so love my black Geddy Jap I would like one in Sunburst too!?!!
Thanks for the offer Mr. Rockwell. I actually had one before. If I still had it and the OBT 500 I used to have, I would have been very interested. Think now that I have the Barefaced, it's unlikely I will ever want another cab though. Again, many thanks and good luck, cheers, Karl.
