More abuse, can't be beaten. Too late sadly Nick, one's paid up and I don't think I have the life expectancy to cancel.

So I decide to get a piece of kit to replace the chrome Ford bumper bar that a particular company put round their bridge pick up. Pickguardian are the only earthly ones I know who do this piece of kit. Straight onto their website, piece of kit found. What do you require version 1, 2 or narrow, please download template. So, template downloaded, copied to pictures, opened with Adobe (down with the kids or what dood? eh). Press print. Cartridges need replacing. No they don't, did that on Wednesday. Out with offending cartridges. Back in with offending cartridges. At the 4th attempt it decided it liked the cartridges. So then, it decided to ask me to remove the jammed paper. No jammed paper, but did as I was told twice. Then it told me to switch off and consult manual. Switched off twice, finally agreed reluctantly to print the template. Success, hard fought, but success. OK, it's version one. Back to Pickguardian. All goes swimmingly until it decides $15 for 2-7 days delivery. Last thing I ordered from the states would fit in the same jiffy bag required. That was $4 and was here in 6 days. Not happy with $15 as the bit of plastic was only $18 in the first place. Oh well, in for a penny (or cent). Pays for it, relatively happy and slightly less homicidal by now. Then it says it will take me back to homepage in 10 seconds. I hadn't been on homepage as I'd gone directly to the page for the required bit of plastic. Home page says We are closed 1-14 May will send out on our return Also says that before their break they were running 1-2 weeks behind and were hoping to catch up!!!! Wish I'd seen the homepage BEFORE I spent my $33. Meh

Discreet, the costs of carriage are simply the subscriptions required for the gear tart club.

Just met up with Jonny at a service station, been an absolutely great, easy trade. The Streamliner is in fabulous condition and Jonny has been a great bloke to deal with. Completely recommended geezer. All the best with the Sept baby, and enjoy what sleep you have left Jonny Thanks for everything fella, cheers, Karl.
I've got exactly the same bass as this but in different colour, and it is indeed a fabulous workhorse and the best Fender Precision I have ever owned, and I've had a fair few vintage ones over the years. I love the modern "C" neck profile Fender use on these basses with the 1.625 nut width . It's big enough to feel like a proper P Bass , but still small enough to be easily manageable for just about anybody who likes a slightly slimmer neck, too . All the hardware is top notch as well , so you don't need to upgrade anything . GLWTS
Nail>head
It's also worth pointing out that new prices have risen, new financial year etc. Prices I was quoted a month or two back are now no longer valid...which is just how it is I guess!
Seeing this a lot with Fender, every year. For example, somebody bought an American Precision for £649 in 1996. You then see it here/Feebay whatever at £900 now. You can get a perfect 1 or 2 year old P for around £700! Very unlikely the 96 is going to sell. Google can be your friend, or not. The one that stuck out most to me a year or so back was people trying to sell Millers at £800 because the last of the Japanese ones had gone up to £1050. They weren't £1050 when they bought them 10 years before. Then they wonder why they don't sell. Oh, and still hoping for the chap on The Wirral to reduce his Desert Gold Bongo

Fender USA/MIM/MIJ/Warmoth/Squire etc. - Opinions on who to choose?
karlfer replied to Wolverinebass's topic in Bass Guitars
You have a load of top quality basses. Nobody on here has tried every Fender made (although one or two of us are trying very hard ). I would advocate patience and going to try out every one that comes up within distance, until you find the one. I have had quite a few Mex. The really excellent ones I have had are the passive FSR I currently have (Jazz neck with black blocks, Precision body, P/J pups Bad a** 11), the active FSR I did have, the Antigua FSR, Nate Mendel and the Geddy jazz. In terms of American Precisions, I have had 4 of the 03/08 series, all with S1 switching. I never used the S1 but all 4 of those basses were excellent. As you well know, most basses in shops are not set up and trying any of them can put you off for life. Get one 2nd hand that has been set up for you. Have the patience to enjoy trying them out. Good luck. -
If it's a dual pup 4 or 5 string in top condition then £999 is reasonable. They are £1500-1800 now.
Old argument though, you put them out at you want, but they will sell at what the public want. Too many folk don't do their research on what products are ACTUALLY selling at. It's a 4 string. There's a five on BC that's been up for months at £750 and not sold. Virtually all the Bongo's that have SOLD on here in the last year or so have gone for £650/£700. There are 2 on FEEBay at around £1000 that have been advertised for months, and not sold. It doesn't matter a toss how much they are new now, but this is an old argument. I like the look of Bongo's, a white one would look fabulous. If the guy on the Wirral had his 2004 Desert Gold out at £750 I'd be on the way in the car now.

SOLD!!! Fender Marcus Miller 2013, MINT, free case and shipping
karlfer replied to DiscoTetak's topic in Basses For Sale
What's the weight on this one please? The Japan basses often seem to be quite heavy. I know the Mexican Geddy I had briefly last year, was considerably lighter than the two Japanese Geddy's I had before it. The Mexican Geddy I had was probably all in all slightly better than the Japanese ones I had, IMO. The finish on the Mex Geddy was superb. So, if they can do it with Geddys........................ GLWTS. -
There is a STUNNING Desert Gold one for sale on the Wirral, through UK Bass Gear North West on Faecesbook, chap called Geoff Davies. Unfortunately he wants £999 for it, whilst quickly looking on here in the for sale they are consistently going for £650/£700. White would be something VERY nice indeed, but thing is JBF, you would be looking for another one the week after you got it I really do think you have terminal GAS fella! Enjoy

Help required folks. I've had an offer of a Streamliner 600 in exchange for my GK MB500. Not what I was after (ie, folding stuff) but worth considering. The Streamliner has all the mid select stuff which always confuses me, but the big questions for me are these. The pre amp has 3 valves in it. If changed, will they need re-biasing? Length of string, I know, but how often would the experts REASONABLY expect to have to change the pre amp valves, eg every year/two years/century etc? As I understand it pre amp valves rarely use anything but a tiny proportion of their capabilities, however, changing valves frequently is not somewhere I really want to go. Hence my liking of what I have always known as tranny amps. Thanks in advance for the good advice (and the inevitable daftness which I love ) that I know you guys will provide. Cheers, Karl.
So very tempted by this. Growly and grunty as I imagine? Compared to the OTB, less valvey but suitably angry when pushed? I like these as they have a lot of girth and power especially in the lows but nice spank in the high mids I know you have fab (and similar to me, shocker! haha!) taste, and I've been looking into getting one of these. Just need to scrape the money together... Either way, bumpo for a top gent!
Thanks Adam. I've been holding off a reply to answer a pm question, ie apparently these have a hiss on the DI output. Well, I've never noticed one so we DI'd the amp last night just to test, as I very rarely use the DI. Guitarses, drummer and my muppet self listened intently for a hiss. I jiggled the EQ section, especially with the treble right up, no hiss. In terms of sound, I only look for what I want out of it. Rolling the bass almost completely off at the amp, contour full on and boosting the low mids a good bit gets the Precision going nicely in Bad Co mode with the tone rolled off on the guitar. Put the tone right up on the guitar and it is in to Steve Harris areas. With the jazz, I find slight boost on bass on the amp, the rest pretty much flat, gives you from JPJ to Jaco by using volume and tone rotaries on the bass itself. I very rarely use the amp and cab at home, mainly because they are in the small back bedroom. Any volume reduces the amount of plaster left in place. I set it up to try a new purchase on Thurs night (Jetglo unmentionable) and started with completely"flat" eq. That bass sounded absolutely STUNNING, even in the little back bedroom. Look after yourself fella, all the very best.
Bargainous!
Many thanks for the comment Merton. When I do sell something, I always take into account condition and try to arrive at a price that is fair to both buyer and seller. Cheers, Karl.
