I emailed the seller yesterday about the 'deluxe' bass and I just got an e mail from e bay warning me to be carefull of any e mails from this seller but no details

I think the warmoth stuff looks pretty good. I hear somewhere that thats who makes the lakland bodies and necks but thats probably just an interned rumour. I was really impressed with delbert hots 51 bass which was all warmoth parts. I wouldnt mind at some stage if i had the cash doing a warmoth precision with something like a birdseye maple nck and a really fancy body.

I have bought an item of e bay that is not as described, doesnt work, and is uneconomic to repair. Im happy to return it to the seller but why should I be out of pocket for an item i bought in good faith as in good working order?

Im looking to put together a p bass from parts. I can find advertised or on e bay necks at various prices from various suppliers Mighty Mite Dr Parts, All parts Stu mac Warmoth There seem to be some new ones from ch guitars which appear to come from the same place as sx basses Guitar parts world wide. The mighty mite, DR Bass, and ch guitars necks are all similar price, and all seem easily available in the UK. I know the warmoth neck is very good quality but they are a lot more expensive , does anyone have any experience/feedback for any of these? Thanks

The quality is generally much better. Comtracks and midi files now are both generally pretty good

Yes thats pretty much what we do. Its all down to trial and error and what works for you. Its fun sometims to go out as a three piece and then have a stonking great horn section coming out of nowhere. Try to get your clicks to be heard only by the band, not out the front as the song starts, people do notice and comment. If you change Key, horns especially need fiddling with to get them to sound good. Do you go up or down, sometimes I double and get a track an octive above, and another below. Try to find a way of easily controlling the volume, its almost impossible to get the balance right on different songs. Weve done this for years to get keys/strings etc I use a propriatry midi file because I can take out the parts I dont want, and change the key. I use cakewalk on my pc to do this but there are other programs you can use. I record a click track, usually just 4 beats to the bar, or whatever and send it to the drummer who wears either a small in ear or full headphones. It is good discipline bcause you HAVE to follow the drummer. Its pretty easy once you get used to it, but we still have the odd mishap if we dont count properly. You can use one stereo channel on a minidisc, and send the music backing to the other channel up the front. I have seen people using i pods and computers to do the same thing. Otherwise, you would have to get some sort of midi playing software and a midi sound module. It used to be the alesis data disc and a roland sound canvas some years ago but I expect there are other ways. You do have to strike a balance between being a karioke and a band, and I dont think it works to use it on every song.

I think you need to be selective with rechargeables as a previous poster said, rechargeable loose their charge over time. I never use re chargeables in active basses, or anything else where a conventional battery lasts for months. In my stomp box, vol pedal and various switches I use the high capacity ultralife lithium, in my basses duracell or similar I use rechargeables in my transmitter receiver, cameras etc, radios etc. where the drain wil be sufficient to drain a significant amount after one use, and then charge them

If you buy rechargables, check the capacity before you buy There have been a lot of advances in batteries recently and they do vary a lot. Most AA batteries now are 2500 mAh or above and pp3 above 250 but its not that long ago they were much less. Check the ones that you use you might find its worth getting some new ones

My best friend moved to a place near Doncaster in the 80s. We used to go and look around the music ground shop and think how ridiculous the prices were then. Oh if only we had spend more on guitars and less on beer. A point I remind my wife when I bring another bass into the house.

In the late 80s early 90s I sent a pair of p bass pickups from my 64 to Kent armstrong for rewind because one of the cables had come off. He said I would be better off with a new pair of genuine fenders which he would let me have at cost and he would keep mine for spares. Oh how gullible I was

Another good source of practise are midi files which you can get free off the net. I dont know if there are any cheap or free sequence packages, [I use cakewalk] The advantages of using a midi file, [the parts are not always very accurate] you can slow them down, they will repeat and never get bored, and you can either play along with the midi bass part, or mute it and play with a backing track with no bass. On cakewalk i can display the notes so you can find out what the note is if you cant figure it out, and it could help your reading practise

The pub closed down because the landlord had been on the fiddle and when the investigators went in, they found Jack 'according to the books', had been playing and being paid for three nights a week. After a long battle he ended up paying tax on money he had never received, because the IR was able to prove he played there, and he wasnt able to prove he hadnt played three night a week.
