1. I would love to come along although I would probably look like someones grandad but we are playing ourselves that night so good luck.
2.
How much do you attach to a name? I'd always go for a Lakland. A used Skyline will be cheap for the quality and better value than any other bass out there. Also, they'll have fewer dead spots, better more flexible electrics and pickups and I prefer the 35" scale and the neck profile.
Its only the 5strings that are 35 in scale, the Bob Glaub, Jo Osbourne, Scheff, 44-02 are all 34 in scale.
3. I popped in today, and contrary to my previous experience and most posters, found the staff helpfull and polite. I didnt try anything cos there was nothing I fancied, but there were a couple of others in there trying things out with no problems. There is a sign on the wall asking you to let staff gett them of the wall as they are hung very close together- fair enough but apart from that no problem. Perhaps the penny has dropped
4.
Thats orange!
I promise I will learn how to take proper picture one day
5.
My first bass with straplocks was my '87 Warwick with Schallers. Unfortunately they have now worn out but I guess they've done pretty well. My RIM Custom 5 has Dunlops on it. However as I never take my strap off I'd be quite happy with a big wood screw and a large washer. Alex
I am fairly relaibly told that Denny lane used a 6 in nail on his rickenbacker 6 string back in the moody blues days
6.
They do a nice Fiesta red though - on the 50s RI model
Heres a nice fiesta red from 64 but sadly not original but still my baby since about 69 plus cij sunburst, cij white, lakeland jo, and a classic vibe in the background
7. obviously a man with impeccable taste
8.
Is it sold??
says so in the title
9. Theres something a little strange about this. Its a bass offered for some while here at £450, which is quite high compared with the prices CIJ have been fetching on ebay. It was twice on the bay unsold if I remember right also at £450. Then AM1 said it was sold with the inference that it went for advertised price. Now ita on sale at 99pence no reserve.
10. Heres a picture of him playing a precision when playing with quatermass in the 70s They were a great group
11. this bass appears to be back on e bay starting at 99p, at least some of the pictures are identical Is this back on sale or is it a dodgy auction number: 190325497683
12. The tops and subs are the same as we use although we run biamped with two studiomaster amps and its its a good system. It doesnt break your back either, the speakers are a reasonable weight.
13. If its sold, the new owner should be a verry happy bunny soon

15. If they come out at 35 lbs they are marginally lighter than the ev 300 sx plastics so that should be a plus point

17. Thats got to be the best value bass around at the moment they sound sh*t hot
18.
in all fairness to the band, doing it face to face isn't always practicle. i mean, do they wait for you to arrive for rehersals and then tell you, so you end up going straight home? that doesn't seem fair on you, youve just made the journey for nothing. wait until after the rehersal? thats just a waste of your time and theirs. the only logical thing to do is tell you before the rehersal, and that means it cant be face to face, unless one of the other members only lives down the road and will go to your house to tell you.
Totally dont agree, agree to a meet in a pub, go round the blokes house, be honest and professional.
19.
I think i'll phone him up and ask to arrange a meeting with them all, just so they can tell me straight to my face why it didn't work out. That seems quite reasonable?
I think doing it by e mail is a pretty cowardly way of doing it, face to face is the only honourable way. As to the meeting, now that the decision has been made and sent to you, what do you gain from a face to face meeting? You wont necessarily find out the real reason, it may make you feel better or you might loose your temper. At the end of it, although its always a blow to ones ego, I would walk away because its unlikely you can change anything, and would you want to. F... em, Dont let them live rent free in your head.
20.
I recently bought a WD Jazz neck. Click here to see my review. It's not exactly glowing.
Thanks for that Im still undecided and that was an expensive neck
21. We asked our lady singer to go recently, and it is just as difficult on the other side of the fence. Everyone probably wants to be as pleasant about it as possible so it wont necessarily be easy to find out the real reason. The best thing to do is to be professional and dignified about it. You may find in 6 months time that one or more of these guys will be in another band who you may be interested in. You will know if and where from a musical perspective you did or didnt fit, and if you feel there was nothing wrong with your playing, it may just be that they wanted to get someone else in because they are mates. I have had it happen to me and I have done it to others. Best thing to do is be pleasant about it, learn lessons if they need to be learnt, and look towards finding or starting a band yourself. My experience is that within reason,it is personalities that generally make band life difficult as much as ability. I would rather play with people I get on with than people I cant stand who are good musicians. For the last 10 years I have the benefit of playing with 2 very good musicians who I like and respect. [most of the time] Lets hope you find the same
22. I have to admit most of my buying is on the net these days, if you buy new, there are all sorts of regulations that protect you if you buy a lemon, andd I dont think its an issue. As has been indicated in many posts, many local stores do not have either the stock, or you end up with a huge warehouse store like sound control where there is no local competition, or the standard of staff is less than adequate. OTOH, there are some fine shops out there, the gallery is loved by many, but there are more out there. As a bricks and mortar store, they will probably be more expensive because their costs are more. The more the shops loose trade to the internet, the more likely shops will close. Many people, myself included will go and demo something, and then go and try to get the best deal. You cant do that if all the stores are shut. Similalrly, what do you do if your lead/string/amp is broken and you need to buy a new one today, for the gig tonight. Where do you go for advice if you are starting out? I think as time goes on, more and more product will be bought from the internet at the expense of local shop, or you will end up with Tesco/Asda etc as a one stop shop. Remember when you went to the supermarked for petrol because it was the cheapest? They have taken a good proportionof the petrol trade and garages are shutting. Booze is cheap in the supermarket and pubs are shutting faster than they ever have been. Change is inevitable, but if you have a good local shop, support them.
23. Anyone in the south whos interested is welcome to come and try mine. It really is a cracking bass, and for a 2 pick up active bass, at that price its a steal. Lakland quality is really good
24.
The gold on black looks great, works a treat! Its a give away price for what is a good precision bass.
Thanks Yes Im going to build one if I can find the neck size i want. Ive never been a fan of black basses but with all the gold bling on i think they look quite sharp.
