We played the Frog and Parrot in Sheffield as part of Tramlines... Went OK, apart from having only 15 minutes changeover between bands, which meant no soundcheck and limited space meant I couldn't bring my own amp with rack compressor and pre. So as soon as I went to distorted wah for one song there was enormous feedback with no time to reprogramme my FX pedals for less gain. However, as one punter said "I don't know what it is, but I f*8%£$* love it!" We dressed as clergy:
Quality , you still have it in spades dude
-
Soundchecking is a big plus . also you can get out front and do some moshing with the air guitarists , only you have a real one . last weeks gig was at a truck MOT garage next door to the guys house , when we said to get the air guitars out he went next door and got an old bass out , when some dude was throwing some shapes with it , I got him to come on stage to do it ...and I cleared off . so I was behind the audience playing and he was acting it out , it was hilarious half the crowd were so confused but totally running with it !!

Yes, brilliant work Mark , superb stuff
-
Ah yes young man , age related confusion can hit when you least expect it , I reckon it was the bear and billet , that was always more of a dive , mind you in the days of my youth Bridge street was the centre of drinkage , from the saddle , Eagle , Clavvies , olde kings head , cross keys, bear and billet, then over the bridge for a late drink ........well last orders at 11.00 , an extra half hour in Handbridge , then queue at King kab for an hour , nostalgia isn't what it used to be !

Many thanks Douglas , brilliantly observed and really appreciated -
We had a brilliant night last night , a 50th party in a lorry repair workshop , the front roller doors were open and the workshop provided the stage area and the dance floor , Tarpaulins were hung from the roof around the perimeter and hid all the shelves, tools , spares and general crap and a marquee was on the parking area in front of the building. The green room was in the garage attached, with the fork lifts, recovery truck and MOT ramps , not that we needed our own space as we were made very welcome in the party and boy did they party , it was superb , a great night all around.
-
In case any of the local BCers were interested in some 'radio 2' style rock , the Razors are at the Olde Kings Head in Lower Bridge Street on 1st August , all welcome, free entry
-
Well I thought I would have a quick blast through for a taster , and wow , I was hooked by all of them, I couldn't flick through any !! Real quality all the way, brilliant work by all involved , superb , choosing 3 will not be easy.

OK I'm in , I have to say a great picture , I had all sorts of lyrical ideas to go with it ,but lyrics take ages for me to record , so I plumped for a simple synth number to run with, the playing isn't up to much as it was a touch improvised . anyway I hope you enjoy https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/the-long-way-down
Why thank you! You may change your mind after having a listen! However, I've been fiddling with it (the "song", that is!) over breakfast and it's growing on me. But it could be similar to how over-exposure to violence on TV desensitises you...
desensitise is a great word , I think that accurately reflects the way my entries enjoy their cult status in my own mind
Interesting photo, she obviously has a matching set at home.......
I think you'll find HE has 2 small parachutes strapped on the wrong way round

Well done Paul , well done all , and thanks for the last 5 minutes reading the thread , many lols
-
Loads of spare and alternate cabling , connectors and adaptors , last gig we were able to put the hosts lappy through the PA , with a lash up , and they were chuffed, but if I had a catastrophic bass failure , I would go to the bar and watch the rest of the set from there
Out of curiosity I've just compared 3 live performances of 'Ship To Wreck' (Glasto, Later with Jools, GMA) with the original studio version on youtube and she sounds like she's singing them all the same to me, ie what was recorded is pretty much what you get live (though the mixes naturally differ a bit). Obviously just me then...as I wrote earlier I'm not that fussed about her one way or the other, strong voice though as Bassassin pointed out.
In all honesty I heard ship to wreck (which I like) on radio 2 at lunchtime , and commented that something sounded off , and the youngster said it was the live glasto recording , it was definitely different , maybe not massively, but definitely different to the studio version

Well I have just had a very enjoyable couple of hours sitting in the garden with a couple of beers , headphones on trying to work out some rationale in order to cast my votes . I love the way vocal is quite prominent this month, I also think thay there has been a lot of thought and work gone in. Excellent work to all . I think I will struggle to get in , for the next couple of months though if I'm honest , I have shed loads to do at work, a new kitchen to keep SWMBO happy and holidays to take , so I think something is going to have to give . Unless next months photo grabs me reeeeeal quick Fair to say my photo library won't get raided this month but I am very happy that a few thought enough of it to offer it some votes, many thanks .

Great picture of the henge , it looks awesome! Our gig was a 30th party , and everyone was outside on the balcony and in the gardens of the clubhouse for the first set , apart from the kids , son we played to them. A few came in our Adele number so we shuffled the set to keep them there for another 3 songs before our break. the second set was much better as it got dark and the bands lights made more of an impact for the party atmosphere. I was using a couple of extra LED cans and bought a Ryger foot controller and I reckon that when I get a bit more familiar with it ,it will be brilliant . We blooded a couple of new ones which went down quite well and at the end the hostess decided that she wanted a photo of herself wearing my hat , then my shirt , I had a spare T so that was cool , but she loved it. we have a 3 week break now as we have a few holidays lined up then 3 packed at the start of August , then September weekends are chocker
Now then, now then, now then...... I'm working on something but I've been travelling a lot with work so I may not get it finished. Hopefully though. Fingers crossed.
Just thinking on , I could let you re-do the vocal on mine if you like Now, if that doesn't get you pulling your finger out , nothing will

Hopeless live sound - all the gear, no idea.
lurksalot replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
No. I'm always wary of coming off like an arse in situations like this, and I'm very conscious of how this looks from their side - some random bloke from a pub audience telling them how to use their gear. It's the kind of thing which turns up in the 'How was your gig last night?' thread on here all the time! They also had a table full of WAGs and mates with them, plus a few people who were there specifically to see them, who were lapping it up, so it didn't seem as if it would have landed too well. So frustrating though, particulalyr as, if I put my 'producer's' hat in, I could also have given them some input on the arrangements and general performance too! I would definitely have suggested the guitarist swap his semi for a telecaster, or something solid bodied and suitably 'cool' - and whether he could be persuaded to do so or not, certainly go for an overdriven Muddy Waters type sound - which would have worked far better. I don't know if they were going for a kind of Eddie Cochran/Rockabilly guitar sound, but it didn't come off - not aided by DI'ing the guitar : far better to have played with a small back line amp, which would have taken a lot of the mush out of the PA sound too, as it wouldnt have been competing for the mid range.
I think it is one thing to offer some help with the overall sound that you can hear at the back of the room , but telling them they are using the wrong type of guitar and have the wrong image would be a touch indelicate -
Sat waiting to play at a Welsh rugby clubs summer ball , there is a guy called john devereux going on forever about rugby stories and we are supposed to be done by 12.00 and I don't think we will start until 11.30 . So I reckon we will just have time for a few verses of 'swing low sweet chariot'. Do you think we will get out in one piece
