Busking it is ok...but if you are going to gig this you have to nail the line exactly or better it. As all the bass nerds at the back will think you can't play it. There is no middle ground here, IMO. Apart from that, I like it.
Uhh...why is that then?.. He may be called Grey Parrot but it doesnt mean he has to play a line like one. . ive heard lots of classic bass lines playing differently or more simply. and there just as good..not suggesting GP's is.. but define "better it"....? why would you want to hear the exact same bass line..i want to hear GP's expression of this groove....nothing worse than a bassist matching a bass line exactly...shouts nerd to me...everyone can add something different.. just my OP.. tribute act or not, who would notice if you played a few notes differently? as long as the feel and rythm is there...there are some interpretations you like some you dont...but if you want a carbon copy hire a DJ

Oh yes...you cant beat a Nordy...looks cool plays like a proper jazz bass..

One of my favorite bassist's..Dont think hes all technique and speed.... he plays a slow groove like no other... wait for the groove he pockets from 7.20 onwards.... IMO hes up there with Victor... Dale Black. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ThwuJVcyoA imagine trying to learn this mother bass solo!!!??

The guy wants to swap for my Modulus..i spoke to the guy today, and he put me off really..he told me its worth 2 grand and is a very special bass as its all custom ordered...i didnt buy it... did wonder why he wanted to swap a 2 grand bass for a Modulus that is not worth 2 grand... i think the bass is prob a custom order by there are to many grey areas with Fenders of this age..i dont really want to loose my Mod, but was toying with the idea... Interesting to hear your opinions and knowledge though guys..
-
Like i said in my post the dots with binding was a special order..as was the colour (so im told).and the barts were fitted later... just found out the bass weighs 12-13 ibs...
-
Well the neckbinding being normal the dot inlays were a custom order..And the Barts were fitted mid 80's.. The neck pocket is stamped J Torrin, who i believe made great jazz necks at that time...
-
Just wondered what you thought about this 78 Jazz.. it has a special order fiesta red finish gold hardwear, Bart pups... i understand some special order Fender Jazz basses were ordered with Bartolinis... What do you think it might be worth Serial number is S 862508 Maybe your on here Rob?
-
i thought he wanted a jazz.. and a Lakland or a Fender?
-
Nothing ludacris about that Alex... I jam sometimes with friends just for fun... what you need to do is go to an appropriate local jam night... you get to know other musicians and you learn alot..even if you dont play, its a good source... i used to go to a jazz night..was difficult as im not a jazz musician, but you gotta throw yourself in there and see what happens...when your under pressure its amazing what you learn and remember... a bit like remembering when you got burnt that one time..(but in a good way)
-
This has got to be the best forum if your learning the bass..so much great advise and help from great bassists.. the great BC spirit..
-
Get a good teacher...Meet other musicians. you will progress fast and have great fun doing it..
-
Thats a tricky one as i havent played the new Fenders..Are you thinking new...The JO's are superb and compared to the older Fenders they are better IMO with a more focused B string with the 35' scale... I doubt the quality has changed since the Laky take over, as John Pirruccello of Hanson instruments was the former executive of Lakland anyway... a top player too..
-
Mark looks as if you need to hire someone.... So about the job..
All the skyline lakkies I've had have been great! daft question and I'm sure someone out there will have the answer, what is the main difference between this and the 5502?
Pickups... knobs..Preamp... i think Lakland did keep some sort of bart setup with the 55-02... but they switched to Laklands own pups and pre later on.
just don't put a big one in there or I'll 'ave ya
HE he...

sorry im being dumb...can anyone actually tell me how to do it?
-
Same here.. not one bass has been totally perfect... i rabbit on about how good they are, but there is always something..The SR5 was good but it wasnt shaped like a jazz.. i miss the Sei though..its being well looked after by a top player, which is good. The Modulus is damn close....
