It sounds like Geddy Lee's Wal bass on Power Windows, but then I turn two controls and suddenly it sounds like Jaco Pastorius playing a fretted jazz. Then I quickly turn another control and I've got a slap tone to die for, reminiscent of the big American Boutique sounds you hear on the American gospel scene.
man! thats something i would like to hear.. post up some sound clips Chris...
 2.
Well, a big part of the ACG preamp that is often overlooked is that it incorporates a filter which filters out sub 20 Hz artifacts. These will never be reproduced as a true sound by your amp but I understand that the amp will try anyway as it receives them in the signal. With this filter, the amp has more power to divert at frequencies you will hear! Perhaps this is why my ACG sounds so striking! Every time I plug it in it's fills the room and sounds incredibly present like no other bass I've had. The sound just 'jumps' out at you! It's also a very versatile preamps because it's based around the low pass filter attached to every pickup. You have two knobs to control the 'envelope' of this filter and another dual band treble control. What you end up with is incredible versatile and very useable. It's easy to get that burpy Wal tone, characterised by it's strong midrange presence but it really is it's own animal, and sounds suitably boutique to match! And it's not just the preamp; the craftsmanship is incredible. There is no-one in the UK today who can work work like Alan at ACG. Add to that the fact they play brilliantly and you're onto a winning formula!
Chris in the nicest way possible, you might as well have of thrown a potato at me, and spoke in Klingon.... im not technically minded when it comes to electronics... sorry dude.. i would love to hear it though... i read all the way through it and all..!

 6.
Apparently now Nicholas Tung has dropped off the radar and hasn't been heard from in over year, at least to the people who have paid for instruments from him and heard nothing back! How strange. Perhaps some tragedy has befallen him, and sadly the internet world would never know because he didn't have a website set up for his relaunch, he was just operating off a yahoo email account.
i guess these guys are having issues in there life...shame to ruin such impecable reps though.. Its like Mr Celinder.. didnt CK say he had some personal probs? Did Nick Tung rip people off Chris?

John Myung used to play them... This bass does it for me.. i also love Surine and New York Bass Works basses... Sukop too let me see the rare basses you love.. pics please...we all ant to see these beauties..
 12. Now that!! is is a nice jazz bass.
 13.
bass direct arn't in camden, quite simply their overheads can't be the same. I would say £1k for a 2007 SR5 is still very overpriced. Also if you think BG is bad for overpricing then check out New kings Road Vintage pricing, their basses go over 10k!!!! Back to the whole vintage thing, i wouldn't pay £8k for a bass but i would really like a bass that made me feel like James Jameson or Duck Dunn. I think thats why some people do it, and if i had that amount going spare i definately would
i get your point... didnt really factor in that issue... if i had the SPARE cash, i would have to look very hard... i just know that someone else could build me a bass beyond anything that a vintage Fender could bring me...the old tone cant be that good.. or can it??? i really need to try a really good vintage jazz.. or do I.? prob be the death of me..
 14. I knew Pete would like her.. hope your well matey
 15.
I wouldn't be seen dead with that piece of tat!
i would if i could sell it..dont get me wrong i would love to play it, but £8000 for a bass that was once worth £800 ... no way...i understand that they wound the pups different back then and the instruments (sometimes) sound amazing but.... pays your money, takes your choice....
 16.
Overpriced? where have you been comparing it to? Ok sure its not as cheep as basschat, but not even ebay is as cheep as basschat
Not a Fender expert but generally BG are over priced... i may have been wrong, and have got used to BC's prices.. but £1200 for a mid 90's SR5...? £1200 for a Fender RI 62... ? you can them new for £1400 tops... wish i was a retailer when i sold my basses... i get it from here....Bass Direct are selling a 2007 SR5 for a grand... yeah generally they are overpriced...
 17. yeah i love it...bet sounds awsome... but for near 8K i would be looking elsewhere... Devon, a custom built Pensa/Suhr... not worth it IMO....ive gone off vintage instruments...they either weigh a tonne or there sh*te.. too much trouble to find a good one... A Laky would out perform a vintage Jazz in everyway.... i bet you an MIA or MIJ sounds just as good... then again i havent played a great J or P IMO BG are way overpriced..
 18.
I'd pick active every time. There are times when an "obvious" active sound wouldn't be appropriate and with normal boost/cut preamps on basses, my Kubicki wouldn't sonically 'fit' every gig (mind you, these aren't gigs I'd want to be playing). I could use my ACG there, with it's complex filter based preamp. It works in such a way that you can shape your sound so much more and change it's inherent tone. Even in the studio, I prefer active basses because you'll get that 'sizzle' in your sound which is always pleasing to listen to.
+1 Chris... i do like a passive bass, but the control of an active is great...depending on the bass you do tend lose a little character though... Got any pics of the Shuker then mr Evans?
 19.
man that is a good price!
your right mate...for a 5 string USA Jazz like this one, and it is a good one... its a bargain...
 20. Wouldnt mind this bass back, wicked Jazz bass growl.. pitty i cant afford to... Buy with confidence... Matt was a pleasure to deal with
 21.
Do you think you can play Good Times better than the original? Is there something incomplete about Bernard Edwards' line?
Nicely spliced together there Loyd...But i didnt say i could play Good Times better than the original... Different yes... Im not talking changing the bass line but adding or taking away parts...
 22. who one earth designed the pick guard? Trouble with people who design basses...there not designers so have absolutely no concept of what works as a shape or what shapes fit together... you just end up with some weird shapes that look like they have drawn them in 2 minutes.. Its like the F Bass..The BN5 has a lovely shape....But when they added that Jazz, ish lump of a pickguard, it just looks terrible IMO i would still play it though..
 23.
Right, very recently I visited my father who hasn't really taken an interest in my bass playing exploits. Infact, he saw me play for the first time EVER literally weeks ago, and I've been playing for nearly 8 years. I don't see my father much and tbf, he was shocked and also very impressed. He said to me i was "wasted" doing what i am doing (I am a simple store operative at marks and spencer) which is fair enough. I don't doubt my playing abilities, I know for a fact i can make something of them. He said it himself, he even said i was more talented than Ellie (wtf?!). Now, I look up to this guy, even though he has never had a big input in my life. He has never encouraged me to do anything, never acknowleged me for anything i have done, but i look up to him because he has been there and done it. He's a great guitar player and has been playing longer than i have been on this planet. So it's only natural that I still listen to him, right (point aside he is my dad, but i see him as much as rick waller sees salad)? My point is, upon seeing me play, he said i could get very far with my playing and I should pursue it as a career. This really, really inspired me and I am currently working on material. Something struck me though, I didn't really like what he said, he said my music lacked feel. So Im asking you guys, what is feel? surely if you have written something and it means something to you, that is feel, and that is all that matters right? do others need to see the meaning or purpose behind your music?? sure, some people may be able to se it/hear it, but youre the only one that knows deep inside what its all about? Aaaaaand one mooooreee thing. Have you ever experienced anything that has really given you the drive and inspiration to "go for it"? and what inspires you more than anything??
Well for a start off. its great ur dad is encouraging you to take the bass further.. im thinking not many parents do...You gotta do what your passion tells you to IMO... anyway, yes mate, what you have written is' having feel'...but its maybe different from what your dad is suggesting...i could be wrong?, but he may be saying a physical feel with the instrument...im no expert, i can only relay what i erm...feel...or dont... I think feel comes from a bit of playing.. listening,, a bit more playing... some people get a good feel from a certain type of music, without wanting to sound cheesy, feel comes from your soul.. or.. the connection from your ears, to your brain, to your fingers..then back and back again.. its what you really want to play for me.. lots of guys can get feel from any music.. i really believe if you really love music in any capacity...you have got feel... because it will eventually come out in your playing... i always thought of Paul Turner to be a player with no character...fantastic player, but no Zender.. Zender had groove and feel.. for me its your interpretation of your personality...its why i love Meshell Ndegeocello so much..lots of players i love have got personality..i just happen to like hers... just like a certain type of speak, slang, or walk, or the way you hold your self....feel is in everything...... your feel is you.. the more you play bass and listen to stuff... the more the music you have experienced the more it will come out in your playing... there are guys/girls who will give you a way better explanation on here.....im waffling..
 24. i dont know these chaps, but i think Jakesbass or Bilbo (among many others) always have great advise..(always thought Bilbo came out with such great advice) Out to Play Jazz also, i believe he knows his stuff... im sure these guys could sort you out.
