3.
I think it's quite a talent to get a bassline note perfect but I always prefer the creative process of putting my own stamp / twist on something.
i agree and i dont.... sitting down and listening to a bass line just takes time with the bass a CD and the internet..... being creative over that bass line within tasteful limits takes much more..IMHO

5. I had a SR5.. but it didnt sound like this..i dont know why but a stingray is just appealing to me now.. sounds like a Jazz with more punch.. i played one once in a pub through an TE, and it sounded great, but the jazz at the time sounded better.. dont know why i havent noticed it before but the fatness of the SR4 is very cool... 1oopus posted this vid and the bass sounds so so good.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StP0_zbDIMo...feature=related i could be sold to an SR4...
6. I will start this off by saying, im up for anyone playing an exact version of a bassline... But... it always gets my goat when someone says..."yeah but its not quite the bass line is it"?? i had a discussion with a guitarist this evening whos in the Latin Funk, Disco band im involved in... he likes...and likes everyone else to follow the exact blue print of the original...i aint got a problem.......ok i have got a problem with this... A bass line is written by someone else, but why not simplify it, or throw in some fills, or feel of your own...i like to think im a very tasteful player, who understands what (i think) sounds good... maybe were having musical differences... when im playing, sometimes i will just just suggest a bass line or chord without playing the whole thing in an intro or some parts of a song....thats what i like to do, and i think it gives it a little live something that original doesnt have... Ive heard bass lines played ..better than the original...slightly different...simplified.... as long as your within the structure and get the feel of the track... Chic's Good Times...i will throw a double stop of G C sharp in there high up... not a total DS but played G to C very quick..does he like it... nope... Rant over
7. Well, she is a solo artist... isnt that the point... Would you say that of Victor Wooten?
8.
youse guys and your widdly widdly stuff. i feel like some kind of hobgoblin oik that should never touch a bass, but then just cos Sinatra and Pavarotti rocked the heights, didnt mean James Hetfield couldnt bring something to the table. All that stuff is very impressive and clever, but when does it stop being a BASS and start becoming a piano or a violin or... Have a look at my bass world... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikLDoO2Yv4A (of course, if I had the time, energy and talent, I'd be making youtube videos of myself playing that intricate awesome stuff too!! )
In this big bass world there is room for all of us....
9. Been loving this girls bass playing for a long time...at 32 shes pretty sh*t hot... IMO an unsung female bassist.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeZK9BD90F4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ibplDxz7VI...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCzdKOadJUs...feature=related she could teach me a thing or two..
10.
Not sure if this is the kind of thing your after, but, 'killer' bass line anyway, imo. Courtesy of TM Stevens. I'm surprised he doesn't get more attention on these boards. I Shoulda Loved Ya
I love him..great producer... strangley unknown to most...He has worked with the best...

12. Now THAT mother is smokin...love the binding around the body and neck...
13. I have always loved this guys playing on a budget rogue 6 string bass ...Hes unassuming, got groove, impecable timing and musicality.... looks like he is so relaxed.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XyTKjtL65o...der&list=UL Unlike this guy... i dont like to knock any ones playing, but the fact he bigs himself up so much?? his vids speak volumes... 14.
Hi Sam, My immediate reaction was to recommend pre-disco Kool & the Gang or Fatback Band, but they might be too much like full on jazzy funk. Maybe Gil Scott Heron http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b2F-XX0Ol0 or Labie Siffre http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DByyEuYEvc
Roland i love Labie Siffre's album Remember my Song..... that tune is smokin!!!
15. This is very much in the vein of that Erykah tune... Possible the funkiest intro to an album ever.. Live and original version.. you gotta wait for 4.00 till it gets juicy.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJbNJJNDdUU&feature=fvst The original. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMzkMhWJ3_g
16. Come on i gotta post a Maze track!! Gotta love Frankie Beverly.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waSM0rXDLys...EC&index=28
17. Pretty much what has been said above, some great suggestions there..... i could add Incognito, Jeff Lorber..Ive been getting into Eumer Diadato lately, hes wicked.. Norman Brown.. My particular favorite is Maze...just back to back greatness!...Or some of the later Bobby Womack is great..
18. Consider it opened..
19. I had one..The US model... Fit and Finish.. well made... Was heavy, but this can vary..Bit of an uneven gap in the neck pocket....High gloss everywhere... I didnt like it on the neck at the time..(for feel)..some do... IMO the high gloss (especially on the fretboard) tends to deflect tone unlike a porous unfinished wood...giving it a very fast attack... nowt wrong with that.. Fret work was good... Overall VERY solid bass... Weight was too much for me..think it was close to 11 +....... Still would of liked a bit more finess on a bass of that price..it felt as if it had been rushed...But as we all know things can vary on Fenders.. Sound Loud! very high output.. LOTS of mids..Classic ash/maple jazz single coil sound....Cut through like a mother.. I used to play everything on it.....Can imagine the rosewood would suite me better.. Playability Very good.. The neck was the best thing about the bass..Better thatm my ole CS 1970...Could get the action very low...Its just the weight that put me off a little Overall..great bass...Workhorse bass, that looks the biz.. ..The Custom Shop wiped the floor with it, but the price tag says that... stupidly I bought mine unplayed, so as always try before you buy.. I wouldnt get another US model....MIJ all the way...Just as good half the price...IMHO..
20. Looking to maybe trade some Bartolini Dual Coil JJ, noiseless pickups for some JJ Singles, or other noisless JJ Pups..Great condition.. Looking for Lindy's. Nordstrand, Fender CS's, Wizards.. show me what you got
21. Price for the GB mate? you gotta put one up
22. Just wondering if anyone has listened to there playing without any backing...i was playing on Garage band and was suprised how messy my playing was with nothing behind it...its not the timing but the lazy fingers thats not as clean as i would like... Something to work on i think..the Modulus seems to show this up more than my ole Fender but thats a good thing... There is really zero room for mistakes and lazyness on a Modulus I dont think it helps that i tend to improvise alot when messing around, so a certain direction is not there... and as a byproduct after time, there comes a certain amount of lazyness.. doest help im not in a band...... excuses ....yes!! Im gettin sloppy!!
23. Did the previous owner stretch the strings when you put them on Zig??...if i put a new set on, i tune up, then stretch/pull on them..then tune up again... DR Black Beauties are round core strings...so the inner core will slide within the outer wind more than hex...its what makes them more flexible....They may keep going out of tune if they are not at there maximium stretch length....Over time they will go out of tune..
24. Ive seen one of these on TalkBass....ask there..it wont take long..
25. Esh basses sound really great.. i played this one at BD and it was knockout..really light too..
