1. Gold - Tony Wilson Guns - Rob Gretton
2. I should never have sold mine. On the hunt for an early '90s model.
3.
Everyone got the same. Everyone lucky enough to have had their strings delivered so far, that is.
Then mine are up for grabs. But I must thank Jason for stepping forward with his offer!!
4. Mine have just arrived. Unfortunately, they are .045-.105, which are too heavy for me. I did put in a special request for a set of .040s but hey. If anyone go a set of .040s instead of .045s and wantt o swap, gimme a shout. Otherwise, I'm going to have to give these away.
5. I'll seriously have to consider this!
6. He's also got a fat-neck V63FG up there for sale, and at a reasonable price, too!
7. It is PG's. Sale is also on Prickresource. Refinishing was done due to blemishes, as surmised by Hairyhaw. But I woulda defo left the wings visible.
8. Actually, if you look at it again, the pic withe the bass upright ona chair, it appears to have the longer 'cresting wave'.
9. TBH, I've got a fat-neck V63 that has considerable stand-damaged and coincidentally I'm sending it over to Jimmy Moon in Glasgow later in the year to get it reshaped and resprayed off-white but I'll keep the wings on the headstock visible.
10. Plus, if he's gone to that much trouble, why didn't he get the neck, headstock and upper horn reshaped to the RM1999 spec? That guitar will have the fatter neck than the earlier CS and V63 models.
11. Wonder why he did that? I know someone on Prickresource did this to an old V63 or somesuch. Can't figure why you'd do that to a CS unless it's taken some damage.
12.
Personally, I find the 'porridge guns' a bit of an aquired taste!
If you ever visit Edinburgh during the tourie season and hear them Screeching and Squawking along Princes Street (the pipes, that is; not the touries!) that acquired taste would soon disappear!
13. I'm pretty sure Fender do a set and also LaBella.
14. Used SoloBass waay in the past but can't mind what they were like; was on a fretted, anyway. I've become a recent convert to Status Hotwires on all my Fretlesses and am gonna chuck a set on my old 4001.
15. My fav is his line on 'London Lady'. I would have also paid good money to see him and Paul Simenon squaring up to each other!!
16.
'I decided to go for a curry instead'
I have played in bands where that was definitely the better option!!! Good call!!
17. I once played in a band with two of the biggest wasters and dreamers I ever came across. They would rock up for rehearsals hours late (if at all) after sporting themselves in dodgy saunas. They're still out there, somewhere, waiting on 'the big break'!!
18. Bass mate of mine is the producer!!
19. Not my first bass, which was a Hofner HS 185. By the time I'd had it for a year or so, I got Rick fever and bought an Ibby 4001 copy. The Hofner got sold off, though if I saw an identical one, I'd buy it for old time's sake. I got rid of loads that I either fell out of love with or should have just never bought in the first place (Fender P-Lyte, 2 Washburns) but there are several I should have kept and here they are:-

'90 Warwick Thumb NT
'91 Warwick Thumb NT Fretless (both sold to acquire a Dolphin Pro1 NT which was bowff, compared to the Tumbs!)
'87 Steinberger XL2A (I got her back, though!)
Early '90s Rick 4001CS
Got some free PS2 games offa Discreet. Nice one!
21. Actually, I wouldn't remove the washer, cos then you could inadvertently alter the tone control by fiddling with the volume control. That was why the detented plate was developed.
22. Yes, but you can either lift the knobs up on the shaft (oo-err, missus) or you can take the punched plate off and flatten the detents out a wee bit. I'd try the former, first. Oops. OHM got in there first.
23. I'd go with Luke on the age classification of when a guitar is considered 'vintage'. Also agree with Molan 100% on his breakdown, though I'd slip in the rare early '80s Sienna Sunburst finish P and J basses; they seem to command a few bob due to the rarity factor.
24.
Good point... shops can't compete with private sales, simple as that. Remember, if they do get 1200 for it, the government are having 240 of that in VAT
Won't that depend on what the store bought it in at? 2nd-hand VAT margins and all that?
25. Welcome, John! My other half is from Melbourne. HAven't been over for a while but I used to like going down Prahran and rooting about in those 2nd-hand shops for guitar goodies. BTW, if you ever hear of or see a vintage Maton Wedgtail for sale, PM me right away!!! That said, they're rare as hen's teeth and probably go for a bomb, now. And I'm also a fully paid-up member of the '4-string Bass Nation', as Jaco referred to it! Orrabest!
