If you don't intend to gig, then go down to one bass, if you must. I used to be a 'one bass man' when I was young until my Status' jack socket sh*t it on a gig one night!! And, if you're anything like the rest of us, if you go down to one bass you'll eventually started to covet another one!!

Nice wood on that 'ray. What colour was his original? Dark red?

It was worth it. All of it. BTW, is this guy related to John Hall?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw-jTCNZSmY&feature=related
Having once been a member of the Ric forum, many of whose hugely partisan members positively revel in ratting out Rickenfaker sales, I can only imagine they are planning an invasion of our small island waving their (dual) truss rods in righteous indignation
Was on there ten mins back; they're all asleep. So far.
What a way to generate business, good feeling and customer care. What a pity that many bass players (on this forum) might have been selling their 'copy' basses to move on to the real thing. Oh, now they can't because the CEO of 'real thing' does not want their money. I had the real thing, for about 10 years 1980 - 1990. Have not bought another, and now, will never. Do ask me about long term build quality by the way at any time.
I craved the 4001 as a youngster. Had an Ibby, then a few years later got the real thing. Two, in fact: an old 4001 and a 4001s-8; both were dogs. Didn't put me off, for years later I bought a good few, most s/h but some new. I put up with blotchy Blue Boy and the 660DCM's nut being badly cut but the condescending, patronising comments sunk RIC for me, for ever. And what about that fella in Italy thats making the RIC rip-offs: Have you gone after him, Mr Hall? Or are you merely focussing, like a school bully, on the private-selling small fry?
I came on this evening to list for sale my lovely Ghersen faker and saw this thread. Damn, really need the cash as well having, ironically, just bought a v63. Can I list it somehow or am I going to be economic with information (and pics)? C
Publish it, Chris!!
That's most certainly true of the John Birch "copies"; better in quality of wood used, build, electrics, finish. If JB could do it plenty of other manufacturers can - and I'd be sure that's what Rick are scared of. Pity they can't invest the money they spend on lawyers to improve their product.
This
If you're stuck for getting them sold and just want rid of them, I'd be willing to adopt one.
Icarus, if I were well-off, you could have 'em all, mate! Unfortunately, there's a few quid tied up in them. However, I'd be happy to accept hookers n crack n back-copies of the Beano and Dandy! God nows, I'd appreciate all of them more than JH's products right now.
That wasn't exactly even hinted at in your earlier post. I have no problem with that at all - Larry Dimarzio offended me once so I took all his pickups out of my guitars!
Which post? Anyway, as long as I appear to have made a valid reason for my outburst, and not just a gung-ho reaction to JH's stance. Thanks.
I love the uninformed reaction to this sort of thing. Personally, I am more amazed at the sadly expected forum reaction. Try changing position on it. If you had a product that you researched, bought to market and sold, building up a global reputation wouldn't you protect it?
HAve you every been insulted by Mr Hall or his acolytes? I have, just for asking pertinent questions. He recently did so again to a BC forumite. That's my main stance on getting rid of my Ricks; I've just had enough. Furthermore, I have NO problem with a company protecting its rights; it's just the ham-fisted way RIC goes about it that pisses me off.
Who does JH think he is GOD??? I own a 4003 Fireglo Ric at the moment and am seriously thinking of selling it never to buy another one. They are not the be all and end all of basses, there are far better bass manufacturers out there that don't get all high and mighty when somebody tries to copy them. Bloody hell how many Fender Jazz and Precision copies are on the market New and secondhand. You never hear of people getting their ads pulled selling any of these. Get over yourself Mr Hall !!!!!!
I'm already in the process of doing so. Can't bear to look at them, now.
