1. Now that's beautiful.
2. Aisle - Horizons by Genesis (Steve Hackett solo guitar - no Collins) First dance - Onward by Yes Quite a prog wedding it would seem.
3.
Just comes off as a jealous whining tart, given that Manson was not only quite astute in masterminding his own meteoric rise to popularity. Of course, after Holywood Manson went creatively bankrupt and fell from grace just as quick as he went up. But Reznor never offered anything of merit so he is hardly well placed to criticise Manson.
I actually quite like a lot of Reznor's stuff, I'm dismayed to find out I've been wasting my time! Nirvana and G'n'R, similarly. Just out of interest, can you recommend some music of merit? Something that you listen to perhaps. I'm genuinely interested to find out what you consider worthwhile and of acceptable 'merit'.
4.
Geezer,NAMM 2013, interesting comments at 1.30 to 1.50. Wants to be good at $4300 http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&ved=0CDsQtwIwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DTpdc5wLiWAk&ei=z0vDUfrfLMPChAf2mIDoDA&usg=AFQjCNEYv2eMn_dRJ9czBTrKsee0Wu0UHg&bvm=bv.48175248,d.ZG4
Geezer, the personification of 'deadpan'. It's a nice bass but I don't really get the striped pickguard.
5.
I've never tried one, but I've read that they're as thin, if not thinner, than Soundgears. What would you say?
They are seriously slim. I has one for a while, got cramp in my fretting hand after about ten minutes of playing. But I do like a chunky neck as you know. If you fancy a J, the Geddy Lee might be the one for you.
6. I love Yes, but without Anderson, not interested.
7. That Precision is gorgeous, Mel
8. I like this a lot! Does it have two outputs like Sheehan's Attitude bass?
9. I briefly owned a BC Rich Mockingbird, from the same line as Ed S's Warlock. Say what you like about the looks, the tone was superb. Very growly with everything on. It's no surprise Entwistle was so enamoured of the arrangement for a few years.
10. The indoor clips sound a lot better and a lot more authentic than the outdoor clip - any idea if a different amp was being used? The more I watch them, the more I want one.
11.
The only issue I'd have with this is I wouldn't want my name on it if I hadn't played on it, regardless of the standard of the bass playing eventually used.
This.
12. What's all this about bridge pickups?! Heresy!
13.
have u still got this mate? im local ish too
Definitely gone mate, I bought it!
14.
I was there too. And bloody fantastic is WAS. I understand the criticism that's being levelled: it's not massively original, but it is good honest thrash. I like it. Most of the night I was about where the pic below was taken from. Two sadowsky J's (with black tuning pegs), and one metallic orange with a d-tuna, an odd string tree retainer and larger than normal (not j-sized, think soapbar) pups. Two guitarists, one of which used a 7-string PRS at one point, the other who used SGs and Les Pauls. Now I get to see them again on Monday on HMS Hammer. Lucky me.
Well from the look of that shot I must have been right beside you - I think I might see the side of my head on the right there!
15. His vocals are much better live too.
16.
So how was it???
Bloody fantastic it was. I didn't think much of the EP material when I first heard it, but the songs work very well live. Jason is a great front man, continually engaging with the crowd and talkative between songs. The highlight for me was an incredible blast through Whiplash, and we also got two Motorhead covers as encores - Love Me Like A Reptile and We Are The Road Crew. Snippets of My Friend of Misery and the 'Die! Die!' section of Creeping Death were also played during other songs. Jason played a couple of his usual Sadowsky J basses throughout (apart from one song he played on guitar) and had his standard deep Motown sound going on. Amps were Ampeg of course, but he seemed to be playing through an Orange 8x10, laying on it's side. Just a great, fun night of unpretentious, straightforward old school thrash (with a bit of Sabbath thrown in). A tight-as-arseholes band in a glorious, intimate venue. I'm glad I went. Bravo that man!

18. In a surprising turn of events, I find myself with a ticket for tonight's Newsted show at the 100 Club.
19. I love the body shape, never been keen on the Shuker headstock though.
20. Sold a bass to Victor - despite being overseas, the whole thing ran without a hitch. I would cheerfully buy or sell with Victor again, a trustworthy BCer indeed! Excellent comms too. Enjoy the bass mate!
21. A friend of mine used one of these on bass for years, always sounded good to me.
22. Well done you lucky sod!
23.
I've been checking out the Limelight stuff too, and agree they look nice, esp'y the less heavily reliced ones...but re the Slab - what is that sound...? Are we simply talking Entwistle's sound, or do they sound different to other P's of that era? I've never heard one - either original or a repro - and am curious.
Hmmm, bit of a hot potato this. Some swear the slabs had a slightly different tone to the usual Precision - a bit growlier. Some think they didn;t sound different at all. I've never played one so have to rely on old recordings but I'm definitely one who believes they have that little something 'extra'. Quotes from John Entwistle, Slab lover: “There is something different about the sound of these Precisions…I’ve tracked it down to the pickups and tone circuit — the sound is much raunchier and gutsy and has a hint of distortion when the volume is flat out.”
“The slab Precisions were like white, squared-off Telecasters, with a split pickup, a maple neck, black scratch plate and what looked like blue veins coming through the white paintwork. I don’t know what they used on them but those basses had a sound of their own, really raunchy with more of a growl than a regular Precision.”
Again, what causes this different sound is a mystery - JE traced it to the pickups and circuitry, whereas others put it down to the extra mass of the body, or even the neck. It's an endearing mystery.
