That would work on ether bricks or 12" lengths of 4x2 "acoustrically treated for optimum bass transmission". You could make a fortune with the right distribution and marketing. Ill be your agent. I know people
  2.
Or buy the matching extension cab and build a stack, which would cost approximately 25 times more than the Markbass bit of wood and velcro
Good idea and the extension cab would give you more output power and volume and projection as well. Or stick the brick under your combo which will cost approixmately 500 times less than an extension cab but it won't have a label on it and will leave stains on the carpet. Very punk though
  3.
Maybe I should buy an Auralex Gramma and lay on the floor while playing bass - that probably looks punk!
Noooooo thats too "Eric Clapout". And your drummer will probably wee on you.
  4.
Fair enough, although I am not sticking a brick under my lovely new (well, s/h) combo! What I think would have been better is this thing but nobody sells it outside of the States http://www.ampstandback.com/
Glad to see punks not dead then if it helps i used to have a 115 on the floor and teh combo tilted back as a monitor. That way you get the floor coupling and dont lose any low end and still hear youself. OK you need an extension but getting a full sound out of a small combo isnt easy and its all compromises.
  5.
Thanks for your comments but the bit of the equation you are missing is that I am an imbecile at DIY. If it improves the onstage sounds of a £700 combo plus a grand-plus bass (if using my JJB) I don't think £24 is that big a price to pay!!!!!
Its a couple of bits pf plywood wrapped in rip-proof nylon held together with velcro and with a Mark Bass badge. Its not a sonic revolution. You really would get the same effect sticking a brick or a lump of wood uner the front of the combo. Got one for my old MB combo and it broke after abouyt a week. Yeh it helps you hear yourself but you also lose quite a bit of the low end because you lose the floor coupling and some of the boundary reinforcement. YMMV.
  6.
£24! Surely you could make something that works for less than that? Also the Boogie combo is significantly heavier than the MB. How long would the MB widget take the strain?
Its all held together with velcro. Youd be better off sticking a lump of wood under the front edge.
  7.
666Hz surely.
Sorry youre right. Fenders are the tools of the Devil. \m/ but dont call me Shirley
  8.
is this bass any good, ive heard mixed reviews about them and i dont know whether to buy it or not. BASS thanks
They dont have good balance and dont hold their resale value well. IMO youd do better spending a few extra £ with an ibanez GSR180 or a Squier Affinity Jazz if you want to buy a new passive bass.
  9. That would be perfick next to my TRB-5P. If only i could play with 6 in hand
  10. its a really small acoustic chamber that resonates at exactly 866hz and adds a bit of midrange bite just like vintage preCBS Fenders. If it wasnt there your bass would sound like a Squier.
  11.
should this happen Sparticus..? urely not... What can i do if this is the case?
It could be the cab response, 212s tend to have a humpy midrange so you could be hearing a dropoff in a frequency band where the cab isnt that sensitive. The amps probbaly got a fairly flat response so if you have the same issue with all your basses then it could well be the cab, its very hard to get a flat response and 12s are known to be very humpy and peaky in theor response. If its a one-off it could be the acostics in the venue. Have you tried using your Aggy 112 and seeng if the same thing happens?
  12. Probbaly just the response of the cabinet making the higher notes less defined.
  13.
I don't think I could fit the elephant in a gig bag so it would have to be the bass.
Might be worth a try. Looks like the lesser spotted indian version, they sound good with flatwounds and have a melow tone compared to the aggressive honkiness of the african variant. Balance on the horns is a bit tricky but can be mastered with practise
  14.
Haha I was waiting for a comment on the Elephant Thanks to all for the info, value wise I don't think it'll be enough to persuade him to part with it, I might try and "borrow" it for a while though.
The bass or the elephant?
  15. The 1st 2 digits on Matsumoku guitars of that time show the year so its probably 1980. If the datings anything like Ibanez then "K" indicates November.
  16.
Mine sold for £1000 if that's any help. But it wasn't a pre-EB like yours, so you could add a few quid to that, me thinks.
1990s not a pre EB
  17.
Thanks for the help , obviously with what you have said regarding the pot values it may be better to add a switch that completely bypasses the tone and volume controls do you think this would be a difficult task?
The sort of active/ passive switch youre looking at would bypass the tone controls anyway. it would be easy to add a switch that bypasses them but in passive setups the pickups need a decent resistance across them otherwise theyll have low volume and no presence. All of the pots seem post-gain so none are suited to connect directly to your pickups in a passive configuraton because their resistance is too low. One way to do it is to get your tech to rewire so the pups go straight into a 250k or 500k blend and THEN into the preamp buffer stage, remove the existibg blend pot, and install a SPDT switch to switch between output of the preamp and the output of the new blend pot.
  18. Heres a wiring diagram for the SR900 The pickups are buffered, the blend is after the buffers and 25k volume is after the preamp which makes it a bit more dificult to do if yiu want to keep existig preamp. the pot values are too low for the pickups to work properly in a passive setup. They might sound a lot quieter with no treble.
  19. Theres a shootout between R500, F1 and LMII on talkbass.
  20. The 44-01 and 44-02 have got active preamps not active pickups, sounds pedantic but its important distincton. IMO the 01 is also more flexible than the 02. Good basses but a bit expensive for what they are IMO.
  21. If he was travellng into this country from outside the EU with the bass then he could have it waived through customs after inspection to assure HMRC that its his own property. It gets more complicated if hes working as a musician and how his visa has been approved. As hes now having it shipped hell probbaly get done for charges if he ships but can appeal with proof of ownership. Best if he calls the advuce line on 0845 010 9000 or 02920 501 261 and they can possibly issue a waiver if he ships it.

    How about "Milli Vinylli"?
  23.
Only the one in the Sub 5 I have for sale at the moment.
And if I can find another £150 before someone else grabs it then it WILL be mine hopefully!
  24.
Hmm.. I know, I just want it to do one thing that MM does it but better than the stock. With the John East pre it should be able to and maybe a tiny bit more, Id hope. Its just annoying about having to remove all the guts and paying the EB for all the bits that dont do the job. pup and pre are almost half the price of the 2nd hand bass. Its immense. Theyre getting a complaint.
EBMM arent known for taking complaints about their instruments very well. Lots of people on their forum have been shot down by Sterling Ball for installing things like diiferent preamps pickups and Status necks. Didnt you know you own the perfect evolution of the bass makers art?
  25.
This may be a silly question, but on my ibanez, i have two volume controls, now im assuming that one is for the bridge p up and one is for the neck p up. Is there a reason for this, arent they technically near enought the same sound?
If they were near enough the same sound then why would you have two pickups when one would do? Bridge pckup gives a brighter sound, neck pickup gives a bassier sound. Having two volumes (or a master and blend) allows you to blend them together and get different range of sounds. Which ibby do you have?
