Remember not to listen to this on anything without good bass response, forget any laptop/phone speakers. My AKG headphones can't handle the fundamentals so i'll grab my Sony later and fully expect my brain to melt.

This exact bass (99% sure) was at the BassGallery for around 12 months then mystery appeared online at BassDirect and sold immediately (same price). I had eyed it up but I knew it was a bit steep for me currently.

So it's an early Euro ? If so, that seems a fair price. Newer ones go for a bit more I would say.

Hmm, so £300ish ? I would opt for 2nd hand and then you effectively buy a £550+ instrument with a few miles on it. As you said HBs are not renowned for their electronics, but I haven't had one to comment. Cort with Bartolinis should be reliably decent, even if the tone can be a little bland. The Sires are also well respected, but I haven't played anything below a 5 series.

What's your budget ?

That's the standard Ibanez 3 band EQ, but it can be set passive. Nothing particularly enthralling in there, however I can see the fretless/fretted abomination is back with a new colour.

Ok here I am, i'm claiming the biggest fail of last year after buying a total of 19 in 2022 after falling off the wagon late Feb. My strategy is that I've loaded myself up at the end of 2022 with decent stuff I am happy with, my weakness will be bargains on Facebook etc that I fancy tinkering with and reselling. 100% nothing I need.

OK here it goes. The total for me is amazingly only +1. It seems a lot, but I enjoy finding bargains and rejuvenating/fixing faulty instruments to move along again. I am quite sure 2023 will be calmer (see you in the gear abstinence thread) but i'm sure there will be a few. Hopefully sub 8. What I have left is very good stuff, i've changed the pickups in the BBG4 to Seymour Duncan SPB-3s and it's now absolutely stonking. Also have a Delano preamp to fit to the RBX6JM which should make me happier with it. The 2 Dingwalls are my 'band instruments' and everything else is for home messing about. I went to BassDirect today to get it out of my system, came back with a 2nd hand bass and preamp for my RBX6JM. I managed until March this year, I am aiming for April this time. @AndyTravis can attest to my willpower.

I lasted 3 months until I saw a Yamaha RBX6JM I'd wanted years. It was downhill from there. I'm not even bothering for signing up for 2023 I'm an addict and I don't care. Total for 2022 was 16 basses 🥲.

Yeah we had this last week, asked us to sign it too ! It was most unexpected and I had to quickly invent a 'signature' that isn't the same one I use for official documents 🤣. In terms of setlist software, we use Excel for planning setlists in terms of timings and avoiding repeating keys etc, but on the day the print off is always there as well as annotated guitar changes, audience engagement slots etc.

I think i've done every method there is, except buying from abroad - far too much risk for me there. I will happily buy online from a shop as I know I can send it back if there's an issue (something i've only done once in 60+ purchases). For Facebook/Gumtree etc I have checked the instruments out in person and been happy to proceed, except once when a BC Rich neck was shaped like a Viking longboat. Probably rarest for me is buying from a shop in person.

I have a B3n and bought a B6 to try, not enough added features for the cost so returned the B6. If this comes out at a decent price (£200ish) it's possible i'd upgrade.

BassDirect only I believe. I've played a few of them though - they are fantastic.

To date, £1600. In the future I will want something 'expensive' be it a custom Dingwall and/or possibly vintage Fender, but that's on the assumption my financial situation allows such in a few years.
