£1000 for a bass made in Indonesia (or Korea - can't remember)? A bit steep, IMO.

Which ones? The standard Jakes? Just a bit of a rounder lower horn. It stops you pricking your finger on it :-D

Oh... you should have said earlier. In that case - Maruszczyk. I was hanging on for the new Lakland Skyline PJ with blocks. When it came out, they couldn't guarantee the weight, and a lot of the parts a aren't the best quality. When I spotted the Jakes, I couldn't believe my luck. My exact spec, for a few hundred quid less, and it's not made in Indonesia. IMO, anyone considering a Lakland, Sandberg, Fender, wether USA, German, Japanese. Indonesian or otherwise, should at least check these out first. I'm painfully aware that I bang on about them all the time, but I'm doing everyone a favour :-)

They nailed the chunky profile of my '71P (41mm nut, 24mm thick). I might be wrong, but I [i]think [/i]what you're noticing about the lower horn is actually the pickguard shape. Fender's taper to a sharper point.

My stock answer for this: There's dogs and diamonds in every era. '74-'80 can be a bit 'challenging'.

They're really pretty light - IMO, this and the Walkabout are the perfect balance of weight and full-fat tone.

I used it last night at a rehearsal before our run of gigs over the next couple of weeks, and it sounded beautiful. It's definitely a bit more aggressive than my 3TSB, so I've got a nice contrast there. The narrow neck and maple board is something I wasn't really used to, but I don't really think about them now - it just feels great.

Maruszczyk will build one for you for a very reasonable price...

It felt tin-pot compared to the Jake. Both my Jakes are proper luthier-built quality. I can't fault them, or the other Jake I've tried.
