1. Late 70s turn "The Darts" for me, Thump Thompson DA MAN!! Classic doo/wop, pop music, that would involve a punch in the face. as long as it was done in the holiday inn afterwards
2.
Thanks fella - yep I'm sticking with them, it's great to play with musicians of this standard. I've decided this is the last band I'll play in - I don't think I could go back to playing pubs (are there any left?) or clubs cos I'm spoilt now.
Ohh dont say "last" Al sounds too "final" if you get me (?) will see you at a Dogs gig some time, your CDs are on rotation in my car! TOP TURN! atb (go and see them if you arnt working yourself guys) John
3.
Got round to learning 'I Wish' and 'Sir Duke' today. They're pretty fun lines to play.
What you mean is "I can play Sir Duke and I want to tell you all" congrats, go to the Boffin class with Bilbo and his other "readers" as Bill Hicks used to say!! PS j for joke and all
4. You're sticking with this band arnt you Al? bugger!! dont forget if you ever want to leave I've got first dibs on this gig.( if they'd have me!) HA HA! all the best for the night, worth going to see IMO Great Band is that!!
5.
Erm...yep.... Many venues ,say 20 years ago, would happily put on an originals band but these days insist on covers only.....if these covers bands didn't exist and the venue wanted live music they'd still be putting on originals.
And these "many venues" are? make a valid point, not just supersision. Good original material will allways get a gig......has to be good though, thats where a lot of them are going wrong.
6. Palladino,Edwards and King in no order........well...allright possibly Pino at no:1 but then I do like a bit of King, but then again he, himself would say that Edwards was the funk player that he was infl.............(and so on)
7.
Agree. I did think the rhythm section felt really stiff, almost mechanical. J.
Naa...
8.
I really liked Queen Emily, great to see a, mostly, older white band laying down a great funky groove. Really nice tone from the Kubicki / Ampeg set up too
My Exact thoughts too
9. A Great chap to deal with very quick, very efficent and the easiest pickup/collect ever ( to the door of rehearsal room ) cant ask for better! good gear at bargin price, oh and a well informed guy too! 100% reccommended dont fear the Dentist, Ben!! hope all is well ATB W
10.
Its been a long time but BUMP!
PM'd
11.
Thats not the best way of showing it though is it,Do I need to post the Louis Johnson clip again!?
Yes
12. MMmmmm... I suppose so gentlemen, but if you were to have to say what a stingray "sounds like" thats pretty typical. isn't it? hence that "demo" I suppose.....errr..yeah, I'm right
13. pleased to see this Q, hes not the guy you may think, comes across as quite a fine chap(by the end )
14. The bridge says OLP to me Ive had one, not the right "quality" KWIM?
15.
MB1. Cheers John! This is without a doubt the best Status ive ever had/played...and ive had a few!
You could allways swap for my vintage one....ha.ha... whaddya mean "no?"
16. Oh yeah, he plays!! Ive also played this and can't part with the cash at the moment, but, kinda, thinking about it(!) its one serious peice of kit, lovely, plays itself in a way. love it buyer gets a good 'un!
17. Fender precisions,..in fact any thing fender basswise, other than a Jazz,Rickenbackers (looks, cool. sounds, eeewww) and, even though I have one, Ive never gig'd it, a JD(mark King) some tunes need a pick, in my current gig so, I just .....just....cant on a JD I'd better get another gig eh? oh and those shuker things with the single cut away .....Im not havin' that. I bet they sound good though. W ( I should say I still love my JD even so...) I hate all gibson Basses though
18. Any Purdy Pictures? (no, not Joanna Lumley by the way)
19. Yeah! great wasnt it? loved that guitar player Martin whatshisname(?) Bass was a gibson eb3 (I think there called) like Andy Frasier used in free. that one last night looked like it had some "vintage" about it.
20. I wanted to say the stingray, but I know its the Wal really, thats the "Rolls Royce" really of all fretless basses in my opinion, that is.
21. I think it may be a rare fender "shhytecaster" circa 1959, Jet Harris had a red one. Chas Chandler was sent one directly from the manufacturer in America, but apparentley was "out" when it it arrived, so his brand new black model never arrived at his house. back in the day they were worth as much as the equivalant of a greggs pastie today.
