1. About a year ago I phoned a British bass dealer to order some Hipshot tuners. The dealer didn't take my money but said he would order the tuners and would phone when the tuners were in stock. A month later nothing had appeared and no contact from dealer so I rang again. Again I was told the dealer would let me know when they were in stock. A further month passed so I emailed Hipshot and ordered the said tuners directly from Hipshot. They arrived from the US in less than a week.
 2. I have sent and received several basses without a hardcase, including one across the Atlantic. A well-packed double-boxed instrument without a hard case is as safe as, and maybe safer than, a bass packed in a hardcase. Guitar manufacturers do not ship every instrument out in a hardcase. A lot of shippers won't insure musical instruments whatever the packing.
 3. I still don't get it.
 4. I don't get it either.
 5. I've always been a bassist but I have played guitar in a band and odd times played mandolin and glockenspiel. I still play some guitar and mandolin at home. I can't remember what happened to the glockenspiel.
 6.
Lots of love for those La Bella 760N, but the string gauge is 60-115! That sounds a bit hefty... do they feel as "hard" as the gauge would normally suggest?
I never take much notice of the gauge of strings, it's the tension that matters. I'd say La Bella 760Ns are medium-light tension.
 7. Baritone guitars were often used in country music to play so-called tic-tac bass - doubling the upright bass or bass guitar line an octave or maybe a fifth above with muting.
 8.
So that'll be BEADFB am I right? - Suppose, you could do as you please, but somehow a low B like a 7-string guitar? That should fit quite nicely with a 5string bass?
B-E-A-D-F#-B
 9.
Apparently the ratio is around 10 guitarist to one bass player according to a well know shop in Glasgow. Jez
Cash Converters?
 10.
Sure do. Same set as when I got it two years ago!
I've got them on my Takamine B10 - excellent.
 11.
Bugger! I'd not heard that, The set I have on my twin neck is going strong and it's not my main bass at the moment, who knows what Fender tapewounds will be like when I need to replace them.
I read it on Talkbass - there are several threads - people have been buying up the old ones when they appear on eBay (if I've understood correctly).
 12.
Fender- personal favorite, cheap, slightly textured feel, lots of bass in the sound (being played as I type in my profile pic)
I read that the Fender tapes had changed since D'Addario started making Fender strings.
 13.
+1
Have you got La Bellas on the Veillette?
 14. As usual, you need to try them yourself but add to your list: La Bella 760N Black Nylons Pyramid Gold Black Nylons
 15.
Have a look at the Lakland thread on Talkbass. I don't recall any negative comments since the takeover. The takeover was probably a good thing as Lakland was regularly teetering on the edge and several times had to be bailed out by Dan Lakin's dad!
Yes, I heard that too. I also heard that Dan Lakin is now going to be a Lakland dealer.
 16.
Is there any reason why there can't be Guitarchat.co.uk running alongside this one. Separate forum, same servers?
Because Ped already said that he didn't want the extra work.
 17.
Hmmm... It's supposed to be delivered today, but as of 7.18am it has only made it as far as Birmingham... *drums fingers*
Doesn't sound promising.
 18.
Well my first set of flats came (Fender Stainless Steel 9050CL .45-.105 ) and I fitted them right away. Happy with the feel under the fingers but still a tad zingy. Does this fade with time? I am sure strings like this must mellow over a few weeks.
Many of us flattists prefer when the sring has aged a little (or even a lot). Be patient.
 19.
thanks for that! so am i right in thinking that any lakland with bartolline pickups is one of the older models(pre hanson)
Not necessarily. US models can have pretty much any pickup you want, I think. Skyline models usually have Hanson pickups of one kind or another but some Skyline Ltd Eds can have other pickups, perhaps like andydye's above. My Decade is before the Hanson takeover but has Hanson Chisonic pickups.
 20. That link won't work for me. What am i missing?
 21.
It's a nice idea, I even thought about having some other forums under the basschat 'brand' like drumchat, guitarchat etc but ultimately I don't want to water down the concept. Without any real knowledge or interest in the other instruments I don't think I would have the same enthusiasm to support them long term. Basschat creates enough work alone!
You were more direct last time Ped:
Get out
22.
Topics would just disappear among everything else. It's not general discussion, it's several topics related to a specific instrument, rather than the random subject matter of the open forums.
General Discussion is for discussion of music as well as bass generally, it's not random.
 23.
I'd support this. I played guitar in my last band for about 5 years. The only reason I decided to play guitar was because I didn't want to be in a band with a guitarist. Sending someone off to a guitar forum is like sending an innocent man to prison. If there were a small sub forum here for discussion of the instrument in a rational and sensible manner, as seems beyond the grasp of your average guitariste, I think it would be a good thing. It could be incognito, so as not to attract unwanted attention and anyone who doesn't want to visit it shouldn't be forced. Guitars aren't the problem, it's guitarists.
So it could just be done in General Discussion , it doesn't need an extra forum drawing attention to itself.
