1. ... a bunch of curts ...
 2.
... a bunch of curts ...
That really should go in the 'band names ... the hardest mission ever' thread.
 3.
Yep. Leo Fender didn't know what he was doing. I'm away to throw my Precisions in the bucket. Goodness knows why anyone would want to play one.
I'll have them if you don't want them because my Precision sounds fine.
 4. Some people are funny about 'other bands' but still a useless reply. You don't want to be in that band anyway.
 5.
Oh god, tell me about it! Here's me in Wales at 18 with my guitar, afghan, self embroidered bell-bottoms and a Flying Teapot-carrying friend The photo was augmented with paint by a fellow sixth form art student. We listened to a lot of Gong and consumed a goodly number of local flora of the genus Psilocybe semilanceata
Your mate hasn't even got flares. Useless.
 6.
... I was 3 when this was taken..
I was 45 when it was taken but it still feels like my lost youth.
 7.
I know it's been said before - but if you want a really great Fender bass, buy a Lakland.
I've got a fantastic Lakland but also Lakland have had a lot of criticism on BC recently for poor quality control.
 8. I remember seeing Kevin Ayers and the Whole World in about 1970. Kevin Ayers - guitar Mike Oldfield - bass David Bedford - keyboards Lol Coxhill - saxes ... and can't recall the drummer but might have been Robert Wyatt. But I was listening to some of that stuff only last week for the first time in nearly 40 years.
 9.
It's because of the association of the pick with guitar players and fingers with the double bass.
... but most of the guitarists I've played with use fingers and not a pick.
 10. I'd never expect a Fender (or any other bass) to be set up to my liking in the shop - wrong strings for a start - but I've never had a problem with a Fender once I set it up. Other people will have had a completely different experience and tell you how bad they are. The G&L I had was also excellent but they are quite rare in UK shops.
 11. So some musicians decide to play some gigs, I can't see why it riles some people so much. If you don't like it then don't go.
 12.
How do you know it's a guy? In this situation 'Their' is correct
I was not intending to correct your usage, which I took to have a clear meaning. I understood 'their', being plural in form, to refer to the rest of the band and that you were making a joke about the rest of the band also having a preferred key. Hence my rubbish joke about correcting it to 'his' preferred key. I did sexistly assume it was a male so, in this case, 'his or her' would be correct usage and 'their' is incorrect through ambiguity.
 13.
To top it off you are going to tell us they have a keys player and all the songs are in C which is what he has the gadget set to anyway? My dad had a mate at school whos mom hated making sandwiches so used to make them all at the start of the month then freeze them (fair enough not for me but ok) she used to label everyones sandwich and the date they were for with little labels which took hours, but they were all made on the same day so the date was pointless and even better they were all cheese and tomato!
I guess that's the origin of best before dates and use by dates.
 14.
And what's [s]their[/s] his favoured key?
Corrected it for you.
 15. Sorry but that's ridiculous.
 16.
I've just realised the d'addario chromes I've bought are long scale, rather than medium will they fit onto my p bass, or should I send them back? EDIT: just did some reading on talk bass and apparently when d'addario say 'long scale' they mean 34"-36" so I should be fine
Through the bridge, a standard 34" P bass needs long scale Chromes in my experience. If you string through the body it might be different.
 17.
... Lennon ... asked about what the Beatles thought about their music.....'we don't analyze it, its not worth it'.
Despite which the Beatles often knew exactly where they were getting ideas from and Lennon himself was later able to apply a little analysis to the Electric Light Orchestra's 'Showdown': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzYDbtQM7Do
 18. Or here, in the USA: http://www.bassstringsonline.com/La-Bella-Black-Nylon-Tape-Wound--4-String-Set--NEW-GAUGES_p_250.html
 19. The 750N light gauge La Bella black nylons are new and aren't yet readily available in Europe. If you email La Bella they may sell you some direct.
 20.
Slightly OT, but a guy I used to work with was once booked into a Hotel in the States in the name of Terver Contninong. His real name is Trevor Cunningham.
Does he have a regional accent that meant the Yanks needed subtitles?
 21.
my only advice on choosing band names is never choose anything with any doubt over how it's spelled, as you'll soon get sick of spelling it to people.
Yes. I'm in a band called Barabajagal and we have been mis-spelled many ways. Perhaps the most feeble effort was Brabber Jack.
 22. If I was ever in any doubt, I'd take the Precision.
 23. It seems to me to be the regular claim of 'I don't like the Beatles and so they can't possibly have been of any influence or importance' that has its knickers in a twist.
 24.
Revolution in the Head? ...
That's an excellent book.
