1.
Hi all .. I am only telling you what I was told .. Put up the pics for people to look at not make me feel like liar .. John
No one is calling you a liar.
 2.
From Ms. Kaye's website: "Beginning in 1969, she wrote her first of many bass tutoring books, "How To Play The Electric Bass" effectively changing the name of Fender Bass to Electric Bass and began teaching 100s of Electric Bass students, many of them now famous themselves." Funny that - I bought an Electric Bass in Germany in 1963, at least that's what I asked for in the shop and I came out with a Hofner Bass.
In recording studios in the USA in the 1950s and 1960s, even I think into the 1970s, it was common to refer to the 'electric bass' as the 'Fender bass'. It was even written that way sometimes on album covers, when musicians were credited.
 3.
I have seen smelly guitars before, damaged by years of gigging in smokey pubs. But this does look quite extreme. My theory is that it was caused by smoke damage from a fire rather than chain smoking Rastafarians. But however it got into this state, I have to say it's a lovely restoration job.
It is a lovely restoration and I don't doubt that tobacco or marijuana smoking or having an open fire can have serious (although perhaps not this serious) effects but the story didn't seem to make sense.
 4.
Aha.....an enthusiastic smoker and guitarist, from Edinburgh, has just told me that 'Guitar Guitar' got a hold of 81 smoke damaged guitars all in the same state (but different vintages). Would that be the shop you got this one?

I think everyone the shop bought was in the same sort of state , they had been hanging on a rope around the living room . believe it or not it plugged in a played straight off and i hardly had to adjust the action..
I'm slightly confused. Were there 81 guitars all hanging from a rope in a living room full of smokers?
 5.
Offers will be listened to for Hillman Avenger in brown with vinyl roof - 10 days MOT and 2 weeks Tax.
Yes, very good, but which ten days and which two weeks?
 6. How did the front of the headstock get like this ... ... when the rear of the headstock is like this?
 7. The scratchplate seems to have cleaned up nicely.
 8.
and Mike Nesmiths mum invented Tipex, making a fortune!
[pedant alert] Nesmith's mother, Bette Nesmith Graham, invented what became known as Liquid Paper in the early 1950s. Tipp-Ex is a German company dating from 1959 and originally made correction paper not correction liquid. The fortune part is correct. [/pedant alert]
 9.
http://www.addmoremu...t/Monkees1.html
It's Joe Osborn much less often than I had imagined.
 10. ... I highly recommend the bass too.
 11.
Did you buy the Fusion gigbag Dave?
Yes, I recommend it just as you do.
 12. I'm still playing the last one of these that Clarky sold.
 13.
... same bass in 3 of these pics? ...
Guild Jetstar Bass ... a very early one with four-a-side tuners and Hagstrom Bisonic pickup. EDIT: Having examined some other pics of this bass it does not in fact have a Hagstrom Bisonic pickup but the later small Guild single coil:
 14. Larry Taylor was Canned Heat's bassist.
 15.
This is exactly why I avoid buying Fenders nowadays. Why use a piece of Maple with an irregular grain pattern for a neck in the first place? Surely its asking for potential grief? Now; time to look out the suit of armour before the howling Fender mob descend upon me.
I think maybe you are the one descending.
 16.
... a review on YouTube with Ed Friedman and he got the exact sound of Steve Harris. I couldn't believe flats could sound like that ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A72TYFcqk4E
 17.
Sounds very interesting - sample please!
I'm not certain Palladino is using TI Flats here but it's worth a listen anyway - especially the fill at 1.00
 18.
... the best tone possible for a semi ...
Thats' a matter of taste to which you'll never get a definitive answer. 1966 Guild Starfire is my answer.
 19. I'd say that if the bass is worth playing then it doesn't need a decal and if you want the decal then buy a Fender.
 20.
Decal or no decal? Yeah, I'll get me coat...
Get Noel's coat while you're at it too.
 21. The Duesenberg spec says 30.3" scale length and sustain block.
 22.
Whenever I see a semi-hollow bass I just think it's going to neck dive like crazy. I've never put one on a strap though. Am I wrong?
It's one reason for many hollow bodies being shorter scale and maybe having a solid centre block. I can't say I've ever had a neck dive problem with a hollow body though.
 23.

I thought that was terrible. He looked like he was ill and also sounded it. This is better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqashW66D7o
 24. The guy in Velvet Revolver (who's name escapes me just at the moment) played one of these on a couple of songs when I took my son to see them about four years ago. I can't quite remember how it sounded.
 25. Very nice, my first amp was a Treble 'n' Bass 50.
