1. Another TRB vote from me. I've got one of the newer 1005 models from Korea. It's brilliant- if the older ones are even better then they must be astonishing.
2. Hey folks Anyone got a guide to fitting pickup covers to a precision bass? How many precisions come with the holes pre-drilled? Anyone know which models come with the covers as standard?
3. The Voodoo Labs Ooh-Wah does something similar. And other stuff too. Not cheap though. http://www.voodoolab.com/wahzoo.htm
4. My missus gave me permission to acquire a P-bass last night. These are very high on the shortlist...
5. If you're not happy, send it back. HOWEVER, before you do so it might be worth going to a shop and looking at the neck pockets on quite a few basses. You might well find that it's a common issue that you're going to have on nearly any guitar?
6. As someone that moved from four to give recently, I'd say that you would "know" if you needed a five. given what you say, I'd go for the four.
7. What did you expect them to say? If their product is noisy and they can't fix it then there is little option open to them other than to say "thats the way it is...".
8.
I asked to try a Warwick (which in hindsight would NOT have been the bass for me anyway!) and the guy said 'Take your belt off and you can. We don't want it scratching the bass, because we've got to sell it at some point'... I didn't say a word and just walked out.
Seems a reasonable request to me. Personally I don't want to buy a guitar thats been scratched and dinged on the back when other people have been trying it out! The staff have to balance letting people try stuff against taking care of their stock so I don't mind if I get asked to take off my belt / jacket when trying something out. In fact, it actually makes me think the staff care!
9.
If you're into Motown at the moment watch this, you'll love it http://www.youtube.c...n&feature=mv_sr
I've got it on DVD
10. Hey folks I'm on a total Motown trip at the moment and really getting into the basslines...so what are your favourites? I think my favourite is probably "You Just Keep Me Hanging On"...but I'm open to persuasion!
11. Man, thats very nice indeed. I have a 5 string version and its sweet. I'd love to have a four as well (sadly the wife would literally kill me...).
12. The only thing I don't like about my hiscox case is the lack of internal storage. There's not much space for anything beyond a short cable and a handful of picks.
13. Double boxed and loads of bubble wrap. Assume it will be dropped and plan accordingly!
14. For some reason the thread title made me think you were selling a case that would fit two double basses in it
15. Tainted Love is one of the all time classics. I'd love to play it with a band.
16.
Why would you do neither? just curious
Well, I have no need for a jazz, a cab, or a Sterling!
17. Looks seriously nice. Whats the damage on these? About £600, right?
18.
20?! Thats just a shop isn't it? Im not out to tell people they're wrong or to not use effects at all, as already agreed by several; if you know what you're doing then great. But it's when you use up valuable time getting plugged in, set up, got your settings just right etc etc. I've used pedals live several times before, but it's pointless as it has no noticable affect on anything. IMHO if it doesn't make a difference that people will hear then why bother? I'd personally be happier being able to play gear I'm very lucky to have than worry about whether I have my pedals textures right.
I don't use any pedals on my bass but you're so far off the mark here its unreal. There are loads of modern bands who use effects almost as an other instrument---they literally wouldn't be able to do what they do without massive numbers of pedals. Now clearly thats not what you do (or what I do) but that doesn't mean that doing so is "pointless". As has been said already---the problem here is the guitarist, not the gear.
19. What would I do? Neither. But it doesn't matter what I'd do. Are you just buying gear for the sake of it? Do you have a specific need in mind? What gear do you have, what needs do you have, etc etc.
20. As has been touched on already, it all comes down to where you draw the line between collecting and playing. Personally, I have neither the space or the cash to have instruments lying around unused. So I can't see myself ever owning more than two basses at once. But that's just me!
21.
No, not if you're sensible - if you're using it like sandpaper, then yes; you'll get out what you put in. A light scrub will simply remove the dirt. You'll find it's quite a common recommendation on this forum. I wish I had more before-and-after pictures to shour you the difference it can make.
I'd be happier using an old toothbrush instead of wire wool!
22. very nice. shame I'm skint!
23. Hiscox are the best you can get for "sensible" money. There's a reason they're so popular
24. There was a sweet looking orange metallic one sold for £120 including postage yesterday. Sadly my wife forbade me from bidding on it
25. As the marvelous Edwyn Collins puts it- "too many protest singers, not enough protest songs"
