I'd all but forgotten about this thread! Thanks for the positive comments. I haven't done any composition or production (in the loosest sense of the word) since I the last post - I should really try to do some more sometime!

That's terrible. I can't begin to imagine what you and everyone else close to him are going through. RIP.

I don't know what I'd do with myself in your situation. Sometimes, when I'm away from home for more than a couple of days I like to take a ukulele with me. It's... not really the same, but it's got four strings. Anything to curb the cold sweats. Anything more than a week and I'll be huddled in a corner fretting the bassline to Mustang Sally in the air, sobbing quietly.

She's what - 23, maybe 24? Don't get me wrong, I love Rhonda's playing - she's got amazing groove, and there's no doubt this new line-up will be ace. However, no matter what you think of Tal's overall feel, groove, sound etc, you've got to remember that she's not even in her mid-20s, yet she's already played with a considerable amount of legendary musicians. She comes across as totally fearless, and I think that has a lot to do with her appeal (other than the obvious 'assets'*). Sorry for revisiting what is probably a tired argument on this forum, but I just felt it needed to be mentioned in this particular thread. Most custom inlays are ok, but I can't abide really obvious choices like bass clefs. Yes, we get it. It's a bass.

If I've got time I'm definitely going to make my maiden visit here on Sunday, before the Jazz Cafe gig.

I had the ER-20s for ages, and swore by them. I lost one of the first pair, so I bought another set, which was nothing more than a minor inconvenience. However, the quality control on this pair seemed below par - they both fell apart after a few months of moderate use. I've since started using Alpine earplugs - not only do they come with three filters for different levels of attenuation, they come with a spare earplug in case one is lost/broken! Win.

Haha, I had this argument with a friend years ago. He was convinced it was live bass. It definitely isn't though. I even got a book out of the library that had the part notated. Now I know my sight reading isn't amazing, but I couldn't even play it at half speed. I'd like to try and learn it properly though. If it's actually physically possible!

Just received a lovely little OC-2 Octave pedal courtesy of Dave. It was easy! A pleasure to do business with - answered any queries swiftly, great communication in general. Disregarding that the idiot postman left it on my front porch for god knows how long, it arrived in very good time! Time to make some dirty, sub-octave noise...

Well, my first thought is... his groove face is incredible! A real 'have I left the gas on?' expression. Really nice intonation on the fretless, which despite my (zero) hours of fretless practice, is quite difficult, no? Shame the audio is out of sync in the first vid though.
