1.
I was actually really disappointed in the 'Live at Ronnie Scotts' DVD. It didn't live up to my expectations-even Vinnie's playing didn't excite me like it usually does. As far a Tal's playing goes,I've never been a massive fan to be honest. I really enjoyed her solo album, but that's about it. Her solo in 'Cause we've ended as Lovers' does nothing for me-I think she really overused the vibrato. I think that Rhonda Smith is a better player and grooves harder.
Point noted on the vibrato in that solo, but what everyone is forgetting to mention is how young Tal is. She's what - 23, maybe 24? Don't get me wrong, I love Rhonda's playing - she's got amazing groove, and there's no doubt this new line-up will be ace. However, no matter what you think of Tal's overall feel, groove, sound etc, you've got to remember that she's not even in her mid-20s, yet she's already played with a considerable amount of legendary musicians. She comes across as totally fearless, and I think that has a lot to do with her appeal (other than the obvious 'assets'*). Sorry for revisiting what is probably a tired argument on this forum, but I just felt it needed to be mentioned in this particular thread. *Heeeeheeee look at the way her boob pops over the top of the bass!
2. Most custom inlays are ok, but I can't abide really obvious choices like bass clefs. Yes, we get it. It's a bass.
3.

'See that coil there? Quieter output than the rest. No particular reason why. Sometimes I just feel like f***ing with people.'
4. Also very impressed with stringsdirect, particularly for their swiftness - at times I have ordered strings at 3pm and they've arrived the following morning!
5.
I would come on Saturday as the Gallery is shut on Sundays!
Dohh! Another time then!
6. If I've got time I'm definitely going to make my maiden visit here on Sunday, before the Jazz Cafe gig.
7. I had the ER-20s for ages, and swore by them. I lost one of the first pair, so I bought another set, which was nothing more than a minor inconvenience. However, the quality control on this pair seemed below par - they both fell apart after a few months of moderate use. I've since started using Alpine earplugs - not only do they come with three filters for different levels of attenuation, they come with a spare earplug in case one is lost/broken! Win.
8.
I'd really like to have The Saturdays gig tbh: http://www.youtube.com/user/thesaturdaysof...u/5/iyIL5pNBMyA I was very interested in ther recent live video which was basically them in awesome underwear. Even the bass players equipment did NOT distract me. That gig has to be perfect!
I happen to know the bassist and the keyboard who got that gig recently. Lucky fellas!
9. I'm going out to buy a lottery ticket.
10. Haha, I had this argument with a friend years ago. He was convinced it was live bass. It definitely isn't though. I even got a book out of the library that had the part notated. Now I know my sight reading isn't amazing, but I couldn't even play it at half speed. I'd like to try and learn it properly though. If it's actually physically possible!
11. Just booked tickets for me and a few mates. See you there!
12.
There's something about Ivory/white basses with tortie guards that gives me a happy. Ohh, you filthy bitch, you want it, don't you....
MAAAAASSIVE +1 As for the new design on these SR5s... I mean. Wow. Definitely in agreement with the above comments - looks so much like a proper Stingray now. I MUST HAVE ONE.

Just received a lovely little OC-2 Octave pedal courtesy of Dave. It was easy! A pleasure to do business with - answered any queries swiftly, great communication in general. Disregarding that the idiot postman left it on my front porch for god knows how long, it arrived in very good time! Time to make some dirty, sub-octave noise...
15.
I guess so. No musical applicationat all. I couldn't have been standing 8' from him when he did it. Balcro.
Is youse gettin' sarky maate? (Didn't mean to sound so dismissive... 'no musical application' probably aren't the right words for what I was trying to imply...)
16. Well, my first thought is... his groove face is incredible! A real 'have I left the gas on?' expression. Really nice intonation on the fretless, which despite my (zero) hours of fretless practice, is quite difficult, no? Shame the audio is out of sync in the first vid though.
17.
I don't know if you could call it a trick, more of an amazing facility with a six-string acoustic. At a folk-club in the back of a pub near Romford, a guitarist played normally, then in mid-song, without missing a beat, flipped the guitar over and played it left-handed... and back & fore several times!! In those days he was known as "Shaggis". By 1977 or so he was better known as Davey Johnstone, Elton John's guitarist. Balcro.
I'd still classify that as a 'trick' of sorts though - it has no real musical application... right? Whatever. It's still ridiculously impressive!
18. My Schecter is fairly narrow by my judgement. They're pretty hard to come by in the UK though - I got lucky on eBay with mine. New retail price is around £400. Mine was essentially unused and I got it for just shy of £300. It's really, really good value for the money. However, I have a couple of criticisms - the neck is obscenely long, and because of the very lightweight body (it's the lightest bass I've played by a mile) there's a fair bit of dip at the headstock. Both easily manageable problems, though. (I'm just too lazy to sort them out )
19.
i want a fender jazz deluxe. but the 75 reissue looks cooler. this is a problem.
Haha, too right! Perhaps you could reach a compromise by getting the 75 RI and upgrading the electronics so it's similar to the deluxe? Don't know much about either, so I don't know how well that'd work. Just a suggestion though.
20. I like this guy's sense of drama. 'OH MY GOD', all caps etc. Good luck with the sale! I like the colour scheme.
21. Thanks for posting that! I've been watching some clips of the 'Legends' tour - the addition of D'angelo makes it even better. From the same gig: When Gadd drops the groove it's MASSIVE.
22.
I'll get shouted down no doubt for raising the name of the much accursed Behringer but their pedal tuner works fine, had one for a while and it seems to do everything that other more expensive pedal tuners (like Boss) do. My only slight irritation is if you use it in chromatic mode the notation for being perfectly sharp is a very small dot after the note letter which can be hard to see, a proper # symbol would be clearer. If you use it in other modes it is clearer to use.
Despite it being a Behringer, I'm sure it does the job fine. It'd be a sorry state of affairs if they couldn't even get tuners right! Still, the Korg gets my vote 'cause it just looks too damn cool.
23.
cool stuff. Having a drummer that grooves is a huge bonus eh?!?! Like it all though, nice tone on your bass. Seem real tight with the drummer, and like your singers voice. On all the songs. Think my favourite is Scarlet Blue for what its worth. Very cool!!
Thanks man. The Scarlet Blue stuff is a few years old now. I'm still very proud of our material though - it was my first band, which formed when I was... thirteen?! Wow. I genuinely feel old for the first time.
24. Yeah it's great! What swung it for me was an incredible YouTube demo by a man with very limited English. If anyone's seen it that will make sense to them. Most of all I like it because whenever I use it someone always asks 'What's that?', and I can reply nonchalantly, 'Oh, it's just my tuner.' Then I hit them with the four different LED settings SKADOOOOSH! Also, it's apparently 1 cent more accurate than the Boss TU-2, not that it makes any difference.
