1. I'm starting to fully appreciate the genius of Edwards/Rogers. Starting with the Best of Chic. BTW that totally sounds like Bernard.
 2.
Rule 3 - ignore them, for them it's all part of being American and twelve. Jon.

It's not just the Americans...
True, it isn't informed by age, nationality or (in the case of musicians) ability. But because of the anonymous nature of the internet, these morons use the little comment box to throw harsh criticisms, most of which are unjustified, at other people's efforts. In doing so they appear to be claiming 'I can do it so much better', but in the majority of cases they have no evidence to support this. Would they belittle the same person if they met in person? Of course not. It's the same for people arguing on messageboards, beautifully highlighted by this xkcd comic: Oh yeah, and in closing: UR ALL FAGS LOLOOLOOLOL
 3. Rule #1 of YouTube: Don't read YouTube comments.
 4. Eh, I reckon the headstock looks better in context with the whole instrument. Probably not the most flattering angle, but I suppose they want to show off how unique it is. Anyway, generally speaking I think this looks alright! Can't go wrong with aged white and tortoiseshell.
 5. Another possible avenue you could try - installing a MIDI pickup? You'd be able to achieve a massive array of sounds that way. Perhaps not viable, but I thought I'd put it out there. If it were down to a pedal, I'd probably go for that Akai Unibass, having watched that clip. Cool stuff.
 6. I love the look of this. I'm not looking to buy, but just for the sake of curiosity, how much does it weigh?
 7.
I don't see them as tired or drunk...where do you get that ? The same attitude in the comments as with McCartney for instance : just some undefined criticism and vague references to age as the only solid reason. These "old" people certainly made my life more pleasant and still do. Luckily they won't care less of what people think...
I suppose my comments were a bit harsh - I was in a harsh mood this morning. All credit to them for still doing what they're doing at their age, regardless of the actual outcome. </backpedalling>
 8.
I just knocked this up on Sibelius - it's just about there, what do you think? -
112.000061 BPM? Thanks anyway - that'll help with my sight reading practice.
 9. Another contender for the synthesized sound would be the Electro-Harmonix Bass Synthesizer. It's a bit unhinged at times, and can only really be used sparingly, but it's worth a try.
 10. Seems like Pino and Zak can do really good impressions of John and Keith, respectively. Unfortunately, all Roger and Pete can manage is an impression of two tired, drunk old men.
 11.
And what is Corinne Bailey Rae's player playing on the Alan Carr show last night? (34.30s in!) Looks like an Ibanez Blazer! Is he a member on here!
Don't know if he's a member on here, but I know his name's Kenny something... Leeds based guy. EDIT: Ah yes, it's Kenny Higgins.
 12.
Hadrien Feraud.

Matt Garrison,Dominique Di Piazza,Janek Gwizdala....... There's nothing wrong with using that technique-just make sure you can use it whether you are playing on one string or crossing strings.
Add Pino Palladino to that list too. Over the last year or so I've been trying that technique, muting the strings in various degrees with my palm. It's good fun and sounds great in the right context, but it's definitely worth learning the more traditional two finger technique for most other situations.
 13. Although I'm too late (and completely devoid of cash), I just have to say how beautiful that looks. Also, what the hell is the last photo about?
 14.
Study bass is a good site. http://www.studybass.com/
I just had a quick go at the bass clef quiz. I like the ranking system.
 15.
....I can finger play it but slapping, forget it, it's too quick for me on the f#/g# D string bit!
I was convinced that bit was a hammer-on when I heard it on the original. I've just about got the hang of slapping the entire thing, but it took a fair bit of practice!
 16.
The last time I posted this photo, another Basschatter made some comments that made it obvious he knew this stuff well (and assumed that I did too!). Apparently they're a Japanese "extreme hi-fi" outfit and that photo was taken at some sort of music exhibition. Every time I look at it, I end up thinking of Back To The Future ...
Exactly what I thought too.
 17. I agree with all the above about the Stingray - it's really quite versatile if you let it be. Very much capable of a gritty, bright sound akin to Justin Chancellor's (of Tool) if you want. Or, with an EQ adjustment, mid-range punch suitable for funk etc. Obviously, due to the single humbucker and its position you won't be able to do everything, and it you won't ever be able to eliminate that unique Stingray sound (which I still have trouble describing). It's definitely still worth a go, even just to satisfy your curiosity. And as it's been said already, now is a good time to get your hands on a used one!
 18. I was reminded today of Dot Funk's encore at the Jazz Cafe the other week. It started out as this song before turning into an epic jam: Prince is the man. As are John Blackwell, Maceo, but not Sheila E and Rhonda Smith. Only biologically speaking of course - they're still very, very BADASS.
 19. Generally speaking I try to treat my bass well. However, as it has been pointed out in this thread, heavy gigging can have some heavy consequences. As a result of this and some other factors (particularly my clumsiness), my two basses have some little dings and scratches. One that baffles me though, is a clump of scratches near the control panel of my Stingray. I have no idea how it got there - it was just like that when I took it out of my gig bag one day. I've since started using padded/hard cases, but I'm still bemused by that one. Actually, I'm really annoyed - if my favourite bass is going to get an inexplicable scar, it should have the decency to look like a proper wound, not a clump of pathetic hairline scratches! I've contemplated sanding it down, but I've decided I'll just let the natural wear and tear take care of it - I very much doubt I'll ever sell it anyway. Anyway, I agree with the sentiments about pristine basses - I couldn't have one without feeling nervous every time I picked it up, let alone take it out the house!
 20.
the guy before me had Precision style knobes on them.. I put the black ones back on..
Good call! And good luck with the sale.
 21. Supertramp - Crime of the Century I love it when the outro of a song makes up the majority of it.
 22.
LOL I was thinking of going for a style that encompasses the two greats in those videos (Carles & Marcus)... So if I had the long hair, grey beard with the wife beater, joggers & porkpie hat Do you think it would improve my playing???! B PS very jealous you caught that Chick Corea gig!
I think your playing would improve exponentially with each item of clothing. Yeah it was a good gig! The sound was dodgy at times, but the musicianship was always top drawer.
 23. Maybe it's just me, but I'm sure you don't see many maple fretboard basses with matching headstocks. Now I can see why - it looks like it's wearing a hat! Again, maybe it's just me. Have a free bump anyhow.
 24. Interesting. I'm fairly certain I'd like one of these at some point (i.e. when I have money ), but as I've only tried one once, I haven't yet made an informed decision. You've had a similar idea to mine though, changing the pickguard. I'd definitely get the red finish too, but I'd have a tortoiseshell guard. Not sure about the black hardware, but maybe it's just the photo quality. Anyway, I digress. Good luck with the sale! I'm sure it won't be up for long.
 25.
... or alternatively a stretch limo, loaded with Cristal and bee-atches
Real talk.
