1. Looks like a nice cab, mon ami!
 2.
MB1. ...Last time i had a Good Shine!...I couldnt get the Seat down!.
.....?
 3. Just had the sales guy from Shine in the shop yesterday, and he mentioned that model in passing - RRP would be around the late GBP500s if that helps. He said it's really good, but then he would, wouldn't he? I've never had one in my hands, but if I can get him to pop one in the car next time he visits I fancy a tryout.
 4. PM'd with a couple of phone numbers!
 5.
I was recently watching a Shine Telecaster style bass on the Bay which sold really cheaply - it looked really nice & I wish I'd had a punt on it now. I was given a Swift fretless electro-accoustic bass by someone who had bought it for their lad as a starter bass & the "setup" was truly awful. It's been sitting in my garage with a heavy weight on it to get the horrific bow out of the neck but I'm not holding out much hope (I don't think the truss rod works!).
Why do we, as a country, insist on still importing the cheap cr*p just because the factories still make it? You can get decent inexpensive which won't put beginners off so WHY?
 6. Actually I'm quite disappointed with this.. I remember a Tony Levin interview in Bass Player mag years ago, in which he had accepted MusicMan's offer of a bass 'anything you want' and had gone for a custom 3 string. There followed one of those lists '10 reasons for TL choosing a 3 string bass'.. my favourite was "why more?" even though I was already hooked on 5 by then. Could be a tempting custom job there, p'r'aps go for a modal or fifths tuning..
 7. Here ye go! Still predominantly rigid, with 4 squashy pads on the lid. Hiscox will supply pads for reshaping if you have a non-standard bass (OW Progress III and the like) edit - forgot to add this one is 'recent' as in 'arrived in the shop a couple of weeks ago'!
 8. I'm not personally into singlecuts, but I'd say that if Chris has his thinking cap on so as to come up with a bass that he will put his name to, then it will be brilliant.. keep us posted!
 9. Not a BCer then?
 10.
To all you photoshop wizards... I have to say Id quite like to see a hitlercaster... I believe in you Hubrad, If your parents don't get Wallace and Gromit simply get them drunk then force them to watch it again. It still wont make sense.. but it will be a hell of a lot funnier!
Tried it a couple of Xmases ago, but they are in their 80s after all. I'm prepared to give it another go, mind!
me neither
You guys will have to sit with my folks and we'll ALL get drunk.
The downside to having an external site for this, is that it will lay itself open to colonisation by Guitarists... and the dreaded spawn thereof that is The Guitard. If a separate non-bass Sub-Forum were nailed inconspicuously somewhere, at least we'd know all the weirdos there were fundamentally sound.
+1
Perhaps as a sub within Off Topic so not to attract non-members to its existence.
Off Topic seems a decent spot, as it describes just where such a dicussion would sit, while still keeping it 'in the family'. There is a different and better vibe on here compared to many other sites I've dipped into.
 11.
Damn you, sir! I'd put that idea to sleep, but you've just woken it up again now. It was only a cheapy but undeniably lovely all the same. I'm just an absolute tart for that glorious woody sound, possibly due to an inexorable shift towards more acoustic music. *sigh* Basschat is just one long shopping list.
DEFFO give it another try! DB does have a reputation for hurting the unwary.. get a teacher at least to start with, as this can help you 1)avoid some painful mistakes, and 2)get a good tone from the start. I think you're on the wrong website if you're looking for someone to put you off.. good luck!
 12.
Definitely a humbling experience. I'm not a bad bassist, but have a peculiar technique which really didn't translate. I've been close to buying an upright before, but this has definitely put a stop to that. Alot of money for something that would stand in the corner of a room looking pretty.
I've always played fretless rather than fretted electric, and as soon as I got hold of a double I knew I was heading in the right direction! My only regret with DB is that I didn't get into it sooner! Not that I'm considering giving up the fretless, mind you. Thanks for the 'spoonful of awe', Implo, but maybe give it another try later; sometimes you have to pick just the right time in your life. If you're into the sound and you play bass anyway, at least now you know it's quite a different beast!
 13.
damn, i guess we ought to delete the "recording" and "for sale: other musically related stuff" forums whilst we're going by that then. not to mention off topic being fine, but talking about guitars isn't because they're off topic.
+1.. well put, mon ami. And to those not into Ricky Gervais, at least in his 'Office' character it's hilarious in the same way as Spinal Tap - if you've been there it's both side-splitting and cringeworthy in turns! Most folks I know that don't play in bands are totally nonplussed by Spinal Tap, but there you go. Incidentally my parents just don't get Wallace and Gromit!
 14.
One lucky individual has been chosen (at random) to receive a custom 30th Anniversary Overwater Bass. The winner has been informed. Thank you to all who entered - please check www.overwaterbasses.com for news and updates on the winner. We will be following the build of this very special bass closely Stu
Yup.. proper lucky!
It's on the Overwater site now so I can announce I am the incredibly lucky winner of the Overwater comp. I just couldn't believe it when an email from Chris May popped into my inbox on Tuesday night, asking me to contact him. One phone call and a million thank yous later and I couldn't get the smile off my face. I'm just getting some initial thoughts together on the spec but even after years of lusting after a custom build that's not easy. A trip to Carlisle is definitely on the cards. I will of course keep you updated on progress.
Like I said.. proper lucky! Congratulations Jono! Whatever you end up going for, you're not going to be disappointed - these are my dream basses! If you're into fretless you can have a go on mine, and we have a Jazz 5 with frets in the shop, just up at Cleckheaton near M62 Jn.26 You'll enjoy Carlisle!
 15.
18 years old...could be a number of things, might be the capacitors, they've got a finite lifespan, could also be a dry joint somewhere etc.... Give it to a tech if you're not electrically minded.
+1 to the amp repairer idea.. probably not the end of the line!!
 16.
sorry, good point. i meant i've never heard a bass sound Bad with a realist.
heh, heh.. d'you mean 'bad' or 'baaaad'?
 17. Hi Stevie, Disconnect everything before the amp. If the noise goes then it's not the amp (seems obvious, but basics!) Then plug in each item one at once. If one makes mad noise you have the culprit. Sooner or later you'll find the single item or combination that causes the problem. I assume you are using the proper power supplies for receivers and tuner? (Again - seems obvious but we can't see your gear at this distance!) Best of luck!
Hi there guys. I've got all my kit rackmounted which consists of: Trace Elliot GP12 Series 6 Head (mounted with a rack shelf) 2 AKG WMSPro40 Wireless Recievers Korg DTR2000 RackTuner Also, it's all plugged into a 6 way extention (with surge protection) socket thats been put onto a 1u rack piece Basically, i've got it all built in but there's this f***ing horrible buzzing noise coming from my head when it's all hooked up. I've tried all different cables etc but still the buzzing is there. and this buzz is awful, it's so loud it actually rumbles my cab the way i've got it connected is: Bass guitar 1 + 2 loaded with AKG Bugs on different frequencies -> Recievers -> inputs 1 and 2 on the back of the Korg Tuner seperately -> single output connected to the Active input on my Trace Elliot head (as both basses are active) -> output on back of head to Marshall JCM800 Cab I'll be honest when I say it's really upset me cos I am so proud of how i've worked to get all this equipment I don't know if there is an earthing problem as it started to happen when everything was fully bolted into place. Please note all the "rackears" from each component are metal so they could be interacting and causing a problem, also, the casing on the Trace head is metal and the casing on the wireless recievers is metal so could earthing/insulating be the problem? If so, how can i fix this? Everything is mounted into one of these 4u rackcases - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ABS-4U-19-RACKMOUNT-...=item56329a5ddb That is the exact case by the way Please please help! i'm desperate, Especially as i'm meant to be playing a big make or break gig for a management company in a few weeks time Thanks so much Stevie Dewar
18. Not in any way to decry Jaco - that guy was a genius and no doubt, but Pino's playing has always just seemed more relevant to where my head's at.
 19. Proper self adhesive Velcro is better than Velcro plus tape. One less joint to fail!
 20. heh, heh! Flats and your own personal sub-bass system! If you fancy a trip along the M62, you can try mine.. I've got two basses with Picato flats on at the mo; one for sale below and my dream Overwater.
 21.
I'd like to try Picato flats - where can I get them cheap as chips ?
http://www.themusicroom-online.co.uk/produ...roducts_id/4346 if £20 posted floats your bass- playing boat. Say you're on basschat and Hugh said it's ok to get a discount.
 22. I've been using various sets, flat and round, single and double ball for a fair while now and I like them, even more so because (as suggested above) you can approach them for custom or altered strings if needed. (Headless 5 string flatwound? No probs!) Managed to drop in to see them as well, while on holiday down Pembrokeshire way. On the rounds I go for the stainless rather than nickel, but I don't change regularly enough to exactly compare life. I definitely have no complaints. Next to try are the Halfrounds, also currently trying a couple of their Innovation double bass strings - will be getting a whole set soon as! I was put off by the low price (daft as it sounds) for far too long (D'oh!).. now I'll happily say good things about them. Of course, you make up your own mind in the end.
 23.
You're not crap. None of us are. We are just at different levels. It's guys like Pino however that can inspire us to keep learning and practising.
+1.. try playing and practicing full time (think 8 hours a day at least) for a few years and then see where you are. We have to keep in mind that many of our mega-heroes started when they were kids and did that to exclusion of all else! Never surrender to despair!
 24. Not into 15s myself, but that's an absolute bargain IMHO, GRAB IT QUICK, SOMEBODY! What's the power handling? At 4Ohms it'll most likely be a standalone cab for most people.
 25. Cheers for that, Hutton.. grey and drizzly outside so PP has brightened the afternoon for me. I'd not seen it anyway. Put your head between the speakers and go 'blubble-blubble'
