1. I'm not in a band at the moment and I'm looking at other creative avenues for bass playing. Having watched and listened to Steve Lawson I've developed an interest in loopers. For me, a looper would be a means of playing a loop and then playing something over the top of it, preferably with a rhythm track added in. Maybe mixing a little fretless in too. Loopers with rhythm (and effects) are the Boss RC-30/300. Perhaps the 300 is overkill for home use although it's certainly got lots of rhythm tracks. Any other ideas?
2. Matt answered my question perfectly and I thanked him for it. The next poster had apparently not read and understood when I said that medium length strings were too short. Otherwise why would he recommend them. However no big deal. You do seem intent on qualifying for your username. I should have known that this simple request would deteriorate.
3. Yes indeed, I can get the tape measure out, measure the length from bridge to nut and go online to establish actual string lengths and hope that this gives me the correct strings. And then again I could ask of anyone knows for definite too
4.
I had one, it's medium scale that are best suited because of the bridge.
Please see my opening post
5. Knowing how far the Contemporary Verythin bridge is from the saddles I did some research about scale length before buying some Medium scale D'Addario Chromes for this 30" scale bass. Sadly they are still too short and are now in the 'For Sale' section Anyone know if the Long Chromes fit or have any other recommendation? Peter
6. I bought this to go on my short scale Hofner CT 500/7 Verythin. Medium length and not short as recommended 'somewhere'. Sadly, due to the bridge position being so far from the saddle they are still too short So unused, uncut, package opened but otherwise as new, £25 delivered to the UK. Can measure if required. Peter
7. I play a H Ray and Sterling with nae bother. I use floating thumb technique and it became 2nd nature quite quickly. Then playing the E string I still rest on the pup.
8.
That cat is going to get a shock when it wakes up.
With Baz, that might take a while. He's old, and lovely
9. I had her beforehand and fitted the Nordstrand pickup. I put a white pearled plate on too that was lost in the process of ownership(s). Thanks for letting me know how she got her name. It's staying, like the bass I'm not a fan of the aged plate so it anyone wants it....
10. and new strings. I know that a few of you guys have had her, and that she's been around a bit but she's going strong and I think looking good with her new plate
11. Many thanks for putting these patches online. I was looking for an Octaver and ended up getting my B3 down from the loft and realising how useful it is. I'm at work playing with the Edit and Save software and can't figure out how to import the patches onto my Macbook. I want to download them but can't seem to drag or import the files. My B3 isn't connected and I'm working with the computer patch set. The files have downloaded as .xml files. Can anyone help? Peter
12. Ooh, my 1st bass bought new And just down the road......
13. Great things come from Kayne West. I mean, just checked out Erykah Badu (modern Nina Simone?) and Anita Baker. Thank you B5
14. Well, after my quiet night shift this thread has made me smile. I checked out Beck's New album on the strength of KWs stunt and bought it. Great publicity.

I did indeed. A lovely bass in itself with a great 'P' sound.

Like a New Bass Day but a New Bass Ray I've not so far as I can remember ever played a Musician Stingray (I've picked up a couple and noodled acoustically) so when I found myself in Promenade Music with an hour to kill it was one of several that I picked up. I also tried a Mexican Fender Dimension and the Stingray was all that the Dimension wasn't in my opinion. Suitably woo'd and with too many basses (10) a new house and 5 basses tucked away in the loft I returned to Morecambe armed with 3 and a good offer on the price of the Ray from Gary the bass guy. Deal done I now have a very stunning Ltd. Ed. rosewood necked 3EQ Stingray to stand alongside Rita my orange Sterling. Dead chuffed. Compared with my ACGs she's a walk on the wild side, it good to have variety. I changed the strings to D'Addario nickels today. With DR Sunbeams they have to be my 'strings to go'. Here's a couple of photos of the Ray. All new in her stickers and scratch plate film. 18. Just to add, I had one of these that came out of a custom ACG (upgraded to a filter pre). The passive tone is essentially an add on so the pre can be used without it as a 3 knob unit. Mine now does sterling duty in my 91 Thumb. The sweepable mids make it a superb unit imo.
19. I've recently fitted a U Retro to my 1991 Thumb and it's improved an already great instrument. Pete is one of the good guys too.
20. As Chris said, Promenade, and Gary in particular have stepped up to the mark here and walked right over it. When we buy or sell gear on BC it's overwhelmingly in good faith but sometimes things without our control go awry. For a dealer who has nothing to gain but good faith and good publicity to help out is remarkable. A big personal and public thank you from me for all concerned. Peter
21. It's funny how different folks see things in very different ways. A sentence constructed with the words 'tonal palette' in connection with the MC pickups would for me include 'unrivalled' and 'awesome'. Each string has it's own pickup instead of sharing one with all the other strings. The articulation that this gives is immense. Perhaps its this clearly defined tone on the higher tone strings without the more usual overtones (your 'warmth'?) that you don't like in comparison with your Warwick? I love my Warwick Thumb and it produces a great tone but it's no-where near as articulate or tonally defined as my MC5 equipped ACG. Peter
