1. Well, after my quiet night shift this thread has made me smile. I checked out Beck's New album on the strength of KWs stunt and bought it. Great publicity.

Many thanks all. The bass is settling just nicely. Looking forward to band practice on Tuesday.

I did indeed. A lovely bass in itself with a great 'P' sound.

Like a New Bass Day but a New Bass Ray I've not so far as I can remember ever played a Musician Stingray (I've picked up a couple and noodled acoustically) so when I found myself in Promenade Music with an hour to kill it was one of several that I picked up. I also tried a Mexican Fender Dimension and the Stingray was all that the Dimension wasn't in my opinion. Suitably woo'd and with too many basses (10) a new house and 5 basses tucked away in the loft I returned to Morecambe armed with 3 and a good offer on the price of the Ray from Gary the bass guy. Deal done I now have a very stunning Ltd. Ed. rosewood necked 3EQ Stingray to stand alongside Rita my orange Sterling. Dead chuffed. Compared with my ACGs she's a walk on the wild side, it good to have variety. I changed the strings to D'Addario nickels today. With DR Sunbeams they have to be my 'strings to go'. Here's a couple of photos of the Ray. All new in her stickers and scratch plate film. 5. Just to add, I had one of these that came out of a custom ACG (upgraded to a filter pre). The passive tone is essentially an add on so the pre can be used without it as a 3 knob unit. Mine now does sterling duty in my 91 Thumb. The sweepable mids make it a superb unit imo.
6. I've recently fitted a U Retro to my 1991 Thumb and it's improved an already great instrument. Pete is one of the good guys too.
7. As Chris said, Promenade, and Gary in particular have stepped up to the mark here and walked right over it. When we buy or sell gear on BC it's overwhelmingly in good faith but sometimes things without our control go awry. For a dealer who has nothing to gain but good faith and good publicity to help out is remarkable. A big personal and public thank you from me for all concerned. Peter
8. It's funny how different folks see things in very different ways. A sentence constructed with the words 'tonal palette' in connection with the MC pickups would for me include 'unrivalled' and 'awesome'. Each string has it's own pickup instead of sharing one with all the other strings. The articulation that this gives is immense. Perhaps its this clearly defined tone on the higher tone strings without the more usual overtones (your 'warmth'?) that you don't like in comparison with your Warwick? I love my Warwick Thumb and it produces a great tone but it's no-where near as articulate or tonally defined as my MC5 equipped ACG. Peter
9.
I have the London Bass show ACG Uber spec ART Krell 5 string 0158. This is my first post on this.... The ACG is a sublime bit of kit, the P-bass you were looking at has one sound. Good choice going from the ACG!! I have a German Warwick streamer $$ and the tone the Warwick kicks out is wildly different to the ACG. I have found the rigs I use also kick out wildly different tones too and the tonal pallet available is brilliant in the ACG. Although, there are some major criticisms to the ACG which I have experienced. I found the pickups are weak due to their configuration and in the setup I have cannot revert to passive. I had the filter setup at first and had it swapped out for East J-retro setup due to lack of on the fly flexibility(during gigs) and there is also a certain unacceptable level of noise from the treble side. The weight of the guitar is huge! But, and this is a big but, the guitar is beautiful, and feels beautiful to play and stands out in a very classy understated way. The neck is simple and fast to play accurately, it never goes out of tune, and with the new j-retro setup is super flexible. Choosing the ACG is the bass choice you could have made.. http://www.acguitars...er-art-krell-5/
A beautiful bass indeed. You have Alan's MC (multi coil) pickups and they are weak Have you tried adjusting the inboard mini pots? I think your noise from the treble side is in no way generic. I own 3 ACG filter pre's and I've not had this problem. Peter
10. Not being overly frequent here I'd missed this. Just to say get yourself sorted soonest Howard, all the best and don't worry about my order, your health is more important. Peter
11. Of course you don't have to have a filter pre-amp on an ACG. The ACG preamps are made by John East for Alan. Alan will fit one of John's own products if that's what you prefer. I've 4 ACG's, a J5, a fretless, and Uber spec custom and bass that I had made specially in memory of my Mum. Weight wise they are a product of the woods chosen for construction and even within that some woods from the same tree can be more or less dense. If you want a lightweight bass Alan will build one. My Uber spec is particularly weighty but the tone mirrors this and being the beefy bloke I am I find the weight irrelevant. I switch from asymmetric neck to a variety of sections and don't notice it to be honest. All I do know it that the ACG's feel like coming home I have a P (I have 2 actually, and a P/J) but I'd not pay a lot of money for it as a P is a P is a P.... P (eter)
12. The usual, Bumps images
13.
Call me old fashioned but it might do better in the "basses for sale" forum
I can see the point. Advertising adverts in the 'Bass Guitars' section?? Next will be the linking this thread in the 'General Discussion section'. Where will it all end? Peter (who also has a bass for sale)
14. Bump for a special bass that's getting ignored amongst all the more popular but arguably inferior instruments:)
15. Nice one, I love mine too Peter
16. Now £475 with UK delivery. This bass is totally Kendal mint. Peter
17. Bump for an extraordinarily great instrument. Peter
18.
This is a bargain for one of these, with the East pre also. really nice example Pete.
Thank you. Hope you're well. I've a strong feeling that this MM is about to find a new owner. Peter
19.
Possibly - but I'm not buying it because I'm hoping Andy will come to his senses and withdraw it! If it's sold he will rue the day forever!
True
20. The fact that this hasn't sold hints to me that a lot of bassists don't know what they're missing. In my opinion, for a full range 4ohm cab they are hard to beat (I've heard comparisons with other popular cabs) and in terms of construction and finish they knock spots off all the opposition. A custom crossover with tweeter and horn attenuation make it ultra versatile too. Peter
21. £500 delivered to a UK address.
