1. wish i hadnt watched that clip .... a whole night of joydivision will now follow !
2.
Here's a young Spanish bassist who is clearly hugely influenced by Carles. Nice playing I think:
that second clip was great not my bag but i hear and see the passion in that peice
3. go for the placing an ad or repling to one, or ask your bass teacher if any of his other students want to join in on a few jam sessions i have just done the same since losing touch with my guitard friend
4. well as a bass player i would tell the keys and vox to pay for it ! But .. if the gigs are large and monitors are needed then i can see a need for investment by the band im still lost how a singer or keyboard player can arrive ampless (cheap skate sods) if i were you and the money was comming in i would go Ltd where everyone gets an equal share of the company including all assets like the pa, not the simplist or the fairest as the dam singer and keys player should be bringing more than a mic or keyboard but you get tax relief on the pa and a legal claim as a shareholder i wish i could sing >.< would love to tip up with a just an sm58
5.
I tried to read what you wrote three times, but I always run out of air when I'm the point where they ask you whether you could stay. Here's some spare punctuation marks for you: ..,..,.,.,.,..,.,.,,,,,,..,,.,,.,.,.,..,.,,,,,.,,,.,.,.,,,.,.,,.,..,.,.,,.,.,.,.,,..... Don't be shy, they're free
fantastic input i could read it just fine but then i wasnt reading it out loud phonetically
6.
I thought the roasted thing was just a way of 'ageing' or drying the wood quicker to reduce the cost and time involved in creating wood suitable for a guitar neck.
i think it would still need to be good wood dried slow then roasted speaking as a carpenter kiln dried timber is a pile of poo twisted and warped wood needs to dry slowly
7. i do hope you washed your hands after playing those Fenders (with bleach)
8.
i think the most important part when starting on theory is to get private lessons with someone (preferably a working musician). Trouble occurs when you mis-interpretate something and then give up because it doesn't make sense. Also realise that the basic's take time to sit in. Learn concepts and apply them to songs your playing on your bass.
+1 i have started lessons again just for that purpose after playig for 15 years understanding a lot more with a tutor that i would a book or video
9. i would not want to use some one elses gear. what if it breaks through no fault of my own ? it can happen i dont have an expensive set up but still £500 if your earning money playing you buy ya own, i dont even use the amps in the rehersal rooms i lug my gear down there in the van meaning i get to pick the guys and their gear up too so no beer for me Edit of course if a pal comes over he would be welcome to plug in maybe even play my bass
10. i felt all alone when my fave bass went in for a neck replacement, somehow none of the other six in the house made me feel like playing i would go get that P bass ! you will go crazy without a bass
11. seperate travel would probably be the easiest doesnt sound like they would be happy to leave the kids at home with someone, and i dont think you want to be around them if/when the mother of all domestics hits >.<
12. ha well i just dropped my ray 35 to Eb then realised a few weeks ago i was smashing through sweet child of mine with a few mates in that tuning so yeah ray 35 works fine however Liam is right you could get a used stingray for similar money
13. my atk 305 was ok tuned flat i have a sterling ray now and the B is a bit looser i think it would be a bit clanky with th odd buzz ill give it a go in a bit and let you know
14.
Thanks for the comments so far but I'd prefer some advice on my idea rather than ways of avoiding it. I'm going to build it because it amuses me to do so. It may not even be a good idea, it may not even work. But this is how progress is made. The 40 in WD-40 and all that
your idea does seem sound however with batteries the issue always is once they lose their top end charge which could happen within an hour, will it be pushing enough amps out to keep running the amp after say the first hour ? i have a feeling it should but you wont know till you try it are the whole band going to be using the same amp ?
15. hire a generator ? or better get the event organisers to do so
16. i have to ask why does that bass on ebay have a strap button on the bak of the headstock ? was that the norm
17. perhaps he just needs some more guidance as said before, maybe he feels he is done with the root and wants to experiment a bit if you taught him bass show him the ways of the force a fill every 2nd bar may be too much but one placed in the right place with the right notes as we know is awesome but ... if im honest the guitarists need to be turned down a bit put the bass out front
18. when i were a lad i took my bass apart and packed the neck out with two folded golden virginia packets (the foil ones) to bring the action down it worked not so well i also bashed a would be mugger in the gonads with a pointy headstock on another bass needless to say neither of those basses are still with me 15 years on i would not consider packing out a neck with foil or hitting people with a bass, and it even troubles me no matter the age or cost of the bass the ammount of buckle rash i see on some basses im sure its avoidable to a degree i have become a bit precious about my gear but im not yet one of those crazies that start a fight because you stepped on my lead
19. wishing i had not bought a bass already this year seeing this have you tried the phone number ? i would be real curious if it was my bass who's number could it be
20. i always pop in a guitar shop when i pass one cant seem to walk on by theres a few near me one of them is a small shop where i always felt they were thinking i was going to steal something as they followed me where ever i went but after popping in a few hundred times i realise there top guys usualy pop in takes all of 5 minutes to look at the 4 bass guitars hanging up and i spend another half hour talking trash with the owner who is a very helpfull chap another i have been to maybe 6 times they keep the bass gear up stairs and its nigh on impossible to pry whoever is at the till off thier dam seat to buy something but again there nice guys i dont think they or us can win they will always apear too interested or not interested at all
21. for trade in you will get a lot less than its worth i would try selling that on here first and walk in the shop with thhe cash can always barter a better deal that way
22.
That'll be because it's the best one. I use Rizlas. For me rattling nuts, you understand.
you the man, those things have a million uses
23. i had the same bridge on my sr505 never had the strings jumping out however i did stick with elixir strings (which came on it ) where the b and the e string had a taper on them at the bridge as other have suggested get the saddles sorted
