  1. thanks for the info still struggling with this one though may have to leave it for a while and hope i can get it another time
  2. hi i have wanted to learn broken stones by weller for ages now, but i am having some real trouble i just cant seem to find the groove or any of the notes apart from the root. i am cursed with two left ears i have a tab but its either wrong or i am in which case i should hang up my bass and go play with traffic instead of anything musical if any of you have any kind of info on this bassline to share i would really apreciate it
  3. i bought and built the 6 string from the same seller i would not class it as broom of course its not top of the range great fun to build and not bad to play, as said you probably could buy a shine from ebay ready made wich could be just as good (never owned a shine myself) mine plays quite well nice low action not a bad sound output is a bit low and it didnt take many tweeks to get it to a playable state the 6 string has a bit of a bassball neck but since this bass is a bit of a project i will be shaving that a tad also the strings are what you would expect i had great fun and did not glue my fingers together once like i did with those dam airfix kits
  4. up until a few years ago i was full of regret about swapping my first bass for a pair of big speakers 15 years earlier, until i saw one just like it on ebay which i bought ! my god its pants (short scale Kay) i must be the only person fool enough to buy two lumps of plywood with strings on >.< so old faithfull its certainly wouldnt be might even go on the fire pit this summer

  6. well it seems this bass was not meant to have a happy life the buzzing got worse and worse, i took it back to the shop told them i wanted a refund as the neck was floppy ! this time a different guy looked at it and accepted there was a serious issue and sent it back to strings and things where it was beheaded and a new neck bolted on lovely bass to play now no little niggles so far
  7. my other bass went back under warranty for a warped neck so ill be keeping this one for a while at least
  8. just bought a couple of new basses and this one that i have owned from new for a about 4 years is getting lonely hung on the wall would like a cash sale bass all works just fine had a new jack put on it when it was 3 weeks old but thats it strings have been on a couple of months but never really played there are scuffs on the scratch plate from popping a couple of small bruises to the wood of the neck which can be felt but i had not even noticed them untill i thought of selling and gave the bass a good look over and the laquer is not cracked none of which are noticeable or show up in a photo would like this to be collected in person from harlow or maybe local meetup £270
  9. i was all into thinking there would be a massive profit in custom built basses until checking the fodera web site and speaking as an ex cabinet maker and furniture sprayer i can tell you there has been weeks if not months of time spent on those instruments not to mention the design and emails being bounced back and forth personaly i would not pay over 1k for a bass but thats because i just play for my own pleasure and there is no return as such for me however i do invest in my own business for tools and vans and as a sole trader spent over 10k last year so if i was a full time player making a living i would definatly have a bass made just for that perfect neck profile the pick ups electrics ect and of course the killer finish edit not to mention claiming some back off the tax man
  10. just finished putting a 6 string together a few hours ago from that company ... put a nice oil finish on it its all pre drilled for the screws had to carve a small channel for the wires from the pick up so they sat straight other than that went together well quick adjustment of the rods and it seemed set up quite well ... however there are two high frets right at the top of the dusty end that buzz on the A and D a fair bit not an issue to me as i never venture that far anyway all in all i would say great fun to mess about with not a bad instrument, you would struggle to find better pre built for that money (although i dont think a 6er is for me now) almost everything is included except finish a chisel 2 screwdrivers and a soldering iron edit also had to file the nut but no biggy
  11. just picked this bass up from the retailer after explaining my concerns with the truss rod and the guy had tightened it so i had a neck that was 100% straight and more buzz on the low end than ever. However after a quick adjustment when i got home i know have a healthy curve at last and no buzz unless i get a bit heavy handed but even then with new strings its very little im thinking this bass did not like to be in their warehouse all winter
  12. maybe some sawdust (fine) and pva perhaps with a little wood dye or stain ? as we used to say in the workshop if at first it doesnt fit fill it with glue and s...
  13. back to the shop tomorrow hope im not without for too long really enjoyed playing it
  14. hi all just in need of some advice on this wifey bought me a sterling ray just after xmas i was going to have a stingray after playing one for a while in the shop, but was struggling with the concept of me having a bass that cost more than her car. i asked the shop if they had any sterling rays for me to try and was delighted to hear they had one out the back, i tried it loved it and couldnt see £800 differnce between it and the ray. got the bass home played for a bit and noticed fret buzz on the lower register >.< seems i had been so busy mucking about with knobs and swites i hadnt noticed. the shop i bought it from are a long way away i did call them and they said to bring it back for there tech to have a look however this meant me driving there droppping it off and collecting another day so i took it to a local guitar shop as the cost of fuel was about the same as the repair fret buzz all gone ! plays like a dream but i was also told there was no more relief left in the truss rod what do you guys think ? im hoping the neck should not be bending backwards anymore with the strings pulling forward but ive been wrong before (like when i walked out of a shop with a bass that came straight out of the box) the shop where i bought it from also gave me a 4 year warranty but im still losing sleep also a bit hard to complain about a fret buzz when its gone now
