1.
anyone else here totally pissed off with musicians who play for free?
well it seems most are not totally pissed off about bands not charging some frown upon those playing for free others dont care i dont think its worth getting all worked up about or discussing till the end of time
2.
Not sure but I think that's a dig at a post where I said I got 8k in bookings, from a pub gig. That's really not unusual the last wedding fair I did I took 7 bookings. Fairly normal. If its not a dig at that then god knows what your on. But I am off to set up now.
as some have tried to make clear people play for different reasons some for fun some for reward its clear which you are and there is nothing wrong with that but there is also nothing wrong with being on the other side of the fence and choosing to play for free i would love to make a living from music i tried may years ago it didnt go so well, however i am a much better musician now than i was back then while earning money at it so i do take offence at the peanuts jibes that have been banded about but i guess there will be people who just get "totally pissed off" at people playing for free , but thats not my problem but it seems to be yours even though you like to hint at how well your doing from your music
3.
And now the insults start again, enjoy your free gigs guys
enjoy earning 8k in one night
4. now if they were asking a dep to play for free i would jump at the chance they didnt sound too bad to me poor quality recording and sex on fire being removed would sort it
5. by the looks of it the chances of getting paid are slim to none might be worth going for shits and giggles meet the landlords or owner etc
6.
No one is forcing you to play at home, but if I went into your day job and told them I would work for free then you would be pissed off. Chance are I would do a worse job than you but if your boss was stupid enough to let me work for free then his fault. Bottom line is I don't do small pubs, so it really doesn't bother me. But I got to this point by breaking my nads putting in the time and gigs. I have no time for the attitude of no extra punters ! If a bar gives you a date then make it a gig ! At one time it cost a fortune to create a buzz with posters and time spent putting them up all around town. Now it's a few clicks on Facebook and twitter. Make it happen
everybody likes to have a go at something that could be fun or rewarding outside of their day job for me its bass i gave up playing full time a long long time ago, for some its DIY im in the building game but you wont see me starting a thread on a forum everytime i see someone putting up some shelves for their gran or mates ....or do i edit : how exactly did you break your nads getting to this point ? maybe a few free gigs or some with reduced fee to get yourself or band known ? i bet its even harder for youngsters these days to get anywhere near where you are
7.
Well, you should care. There are musicians who perform for a living and depend upon being paid for gigs. These are generally the higher-quality acts who provide pro entertainment. Every time some of us play for free ....... we spoil the market for other who need to be paid. It's not that difficult to get paid gigs. You won't get a fortune, but you will get paid if you have a decent enough act and go to the correct places.
no reason why i should care at all i only played once this year in total in a pub that rarely has bands on at all, we packed the place out i counted at least 8 of our pals and 3 old gits propping up the bar my daughters band however (all aged 13) played over 5 gigs this year for free playing at packed school fetes etc but i thought the point of this thread was a moan about people playing for free at ticketed or profit making events and not at forcing the likes of me to only play in my own home
8. the sterling sub is pretty much like the squier is to fender with the sterling rays a bit like the mexican fenders have a sterling ray and a a sub in the house couldnt tell much difference in the shop between a stingray and the sterling ray but only played the stingray for 15 minutes
9.
We should go round his house and shave his beard off.
give it a going over with a bastard file or rasp and list it on ebay for a tidy profit ?
10. im keeping my old Kay til its the last one on earth and i will make a fortune !
11. wow he has a load of nice basses on ebay
12. used to be slung low for me but its was harder for me to play properly, so now its pretty much the same height as when im sitting i am a boring ol git hiding his belly
13. well i was outbid at 30 notes and since i could buy a fault free one with an amp and some random stuff for 90 quid i dont think i shall bid further
14. what these B stock instruments require is a full set up and zero fret sand blasting and relisting for a lot more ! do you think the master setter upperer has seen these yet ? could keep him busy for decades yup i bid on one ! wasnt going to risk bidding on 2 if i won both i might end up with a full set of strings and there be no fun in that
15. had a neck issue on my ray35 the retailer was worse than useless but strings and things wanted the instrument back asap after i mailed them and switched the neck over within a week new neck had some high frets on it which is a bit of a pisser but at least they didnt ignore everything i said like the retailer did for a mass produced bass im sure if there are common neck issues there would be more people like me to whine about it i reckon i was just unlucky thankfully tho strings n things honoured the warranty etc even after my rays neck issues i bought a sterling sub for my daughter tho this time had a local shop order one in and ignored the lure of cheaper internet prices just incase there ever was an issue so i wasnt running about or waiting for couriers
16.
good feedback on ebay, funny they dont take credit cards or paypal on their website though http://www.ebay.co.u...d%3Dp4340.l2562 not a guitar in sight same V.A.T number as on the website
i would avoid them they seem to be based in china but also registered in kensington and ware will probably sell you a vintage reissue of some kind at that price
17. good feedback on ebay, funny they dont take credit cards or paypal on their website though http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?item=260806080797&viewitem=&_ssn=imd_outlet&rt=nc%3F_trksid%3Dp4340.l2562 not a guitar in sight same V.A.T number as on the website
18. saw this earlier today and thought the neck seemed pretty standard ... the penny just dropped that is a rather large neck
19.
How about contacting MM direct? Surely their customer service people would have something to say about this?
dont think MM would want to hear about a sterling ray (they didnt when i tried to register if for warranty ) spoke with strings and things after i realised dv247 were being silly not noticing a neck with a serious issue, i spoke with strings and things once more asking for some new screws for the machine heads because they were wonky and chewed which they posted out to me FOC and fast strings and things have been great except for the wonky screws and frets but now the frets are sorted and if i can be bothered the screws sorted this weekend enjoying this bass now dont want it changed for another with high/rough frets
20. the bass plays fine after the pro set up action could be lower but as its almost the same as a bass i always thought had really low action i cant complain but i am going to get someone to have a bash and get their opinion on how it plays only gripe i have at the mo is all the mucking about i have had to do to sort it and the cost
21. i dont think they allow freedom of speech on the musicman forums
22. actually cant find any buzz on this neck whatsoever just measured the height on the E at 12th and its 2.7 mm about .2mm higher than my ibanez it just seems higher no idea why, but it plays without any clanking sounds great plugged in dont want to return it but i will be mentioning the set up costs ect and travel to dv247
23. RcD 's can be a bit funny but in this case i would say its the psu for sure as its the only part connected to the ac of the fuse board if its tripping the breaker on the ring main when no rcd is present then i would say there is a serious fault on the psu tell them to try a new a psu
24. bass now plays ok ish but the only thing i have in the house to compare to is my atk 305 which has a realy low action no buzz and seems far superior maybe its just a different bass so should feel different but now this ray35 has a tainted history, going to give it a little thinking time before lodging a complaint with dv247 and their slack set ups
