1. I'll consider Jazzes too, so I don't leave anyone out. Passive only.
2.
MB1. TIM!!(Artist formerly known as BUMP!)
Thanks for the 'TIM' Martin, still in the dark but works all the same!
3. Up for sale in AS NEW mint A1 condition: Genz Benz 750 Head inside lightweight Proel rack case + solid 5 button footswitch and cables. All bedroom use only. It has an output limiter so you can use it for practice (preferred it over my Roland Cube30) and it steps up to the big gigs of course. Really difficult to find 2nd hand - if you buy it, you will keep it and it'll make your other bass amps redundant like mine. American made, I think theres only two dealers in the UK that sell this model. Hitting over £1k when new (with trimmings), this amp has a fantastic tight FET channel which is killer for funk and slap, especially when scooping the eq via pedal. I myself enjoy the classic old skool valve channel on a mid-boost setting for the fingerstyle stuff I play. You can also mix both channels for clarity and grunt (this is particularly good for a jazz bass this setting!). I bought this amp for its lightweight and versatility but my change in musical direction towards guitar has forced my hand to move it along. A real gem though, it will be missed...if I don't decide to keep it! 675w of beastly tone through a 4ohm cab, anything from Jazz to Metal without a stutter. Easily transportable, even with a bad back. REASON FOR SELLING: I'm switching to electric guitar, thats all. 4. I'm kind of in agreement with charic in terms of what to use on it but thomastik infeld flatwounds come into the equation. Whats the cheapest decent precision which uses alder I probably won't notice through the cube as I would the Genz Benz anyway but I'm always sceptical when the brand doesn't state the body wood. I'm not a fan of signature basses unfortunately.
5. I've just sold my final and best bass to date - a '56 Fender Precision Custom Bravewood Replica. I did it because I really wanted to switch to guitar and sell my Genz Benz to afford driving lessons. I do however still own a roland bass cube30 and boss Dr880 drum machine so i'm ready to get back into whenever I feel like it. If I said I wanted to spend £600 maximum on my return on a Precision bass, what would you say was the best value in this region - doesn't have to use the full budget. In a nutshell whats the best Precision bass under £600, there must be millions of threads on this somewhere Grateful for all advice! Cheers Oli
6. Prettiest girl to date . I don't really look at the side dots i kinda curl up when i'm playing to look at the front still lol. Back n sides of the bass are so unexciting unless you own a shuker or something.
7. Charvel guitars are no.1, no sound or playability like them. Value for money in the extreme.
8. Best description of the facing i've heard, although, never been to the bahamas - I bought this off a big welsh guy who was looking for a musicman to knock about during pub gigs instead of ruining the lovely timbers. However absolutely flawless build, solid and loud, loud, loud with plenty of versatility, I can tap but I don't slap and the tappings gooood. Uber light too. Jack's a top chap to deal with. Sorry to hear about the broken leg! You sound just as unlucky as me .
9. Awesome! gotta be one of the most versatile basses I've seen, only way you could possibly improve it is 4 more frets but who goes up that far anyway. Flawless.
10. Thats a lovely combo, great price too. I'm sure it'd sound lovely and warm if you wore the maple in...although that may take years lol, works for musicman though! With the laquer its growly and crisp for slap stuff.
11. £1025 posted now to get her moving.
12.
trying to find vids of my amp there are only 2 and one i this guy playing guitar through it. You could try pedals going into it? for the overdrive? If you wanted to swap heads for a more valvey sound... you'ld still be playing through a bass head! hey! have another bump
Cheers luke, i could play a guitar amp through the cab I guess but if this doesn't sell a boss overdrive pedal will be on the cards. I've had a few PMs though all of a sudden so fingers crossed, I know i'll miss it though but i'm a guitarist at heart.
13. I've tried both and the precision bass has a comfier, less cramped neck and plays better chordally, I prefer the sound of a P too if it has a high output, whether using rounds or flats. I won't lie I'd love a Fender Jazz fretless but only for the bridge pickup tone and because the playing angle is different, its still worse chordally - for me anyway. A fretless precision is too much of a stretch.
14. Never understood the point of a neck pickup on a tele, great guitar!
15. What finish is the CIJ Tele bass?
16.
this guy uses my bass head for guitar ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNiOy-LtU-U could you not use yours? edit: untill you sell I meant.... but then a genz benz is possibly very different, and you may want to play rockabilly or something where it wouldn't be suitable!
Cheers for the link Luke . It sounds fantastic playing my semi hollow through the bass head, brilliant for the clean stuff (Lynyrd Skynyrd etc) but I was really after an Orange Valve amp for my Charvel for some screamy overdrive. I'm not in a band at current so the Genz Benz only gets some use when I'm transcribing stuff in front of my laptop - no gigs as yet! criminal.
17. Back up again as a £1000 Christmas present. I really, really, really want to switch to guitar
18. How is it tuned? Like a 6 string bass meets guitar? Impressive playing too!! The mind boggles when I see these, do you play it through a bass amp?
19. How is it tuned? Like a 6 string bass meets guitar?
20.
Photos please !!!!!!!!!!!
+1
21. If my guitar can whoop a Gibson, i wouldn't doubt for a second that this would top a pre-2008 Fender easy
