£7000 for a Gibson bass, should be in the memes thread 👍
-
Used to (and will again soon when I start gigging again). As long as you’re in tune no-one should notice unless you want them to. I find fretless easier than fretted these days
-
They can do, depends on the bank, I have to send payments to a builder and it's very slow and makes me nervous as hell each time I do it, hence my interest in this thread as we also had a glitch a few weeks back, although it transpired that it's the result of the two banks having multiple checks. I always screen shot every stage, although i wonder how much use that would be if there was ever a major problem as the bank could probably simply dispute the integrity of them, but it's probably better than nothing. A couple of friends have lost large amounts, one through trusting a process that he - or more correctly his wife - was duped into but very very cleverly so, the other through something not dissimilar to what your case appeared to be at first sight, bank account details that appeared to be paying one person when they were paying another. He made the mistake of ignoring the notice on the screen telling him he should only go ahead with the payment if he was sure.

This is her way of blocking your bass purchases mate
-
Apologies for asking (but hey, you did start the thread), and just to be clear, your wife made the payment, you weren't with her when she made it, you just checked the details after the fact?
-
That's a good question 👍

That’s how I see it, a few folks above appear to know what’s going on but are being a little opaque, could someone just explain in simple language what has happened? My spidey senses were pricked by the ‘sellers’ inability to take PayPal which of course would have facilitated an easy refund. But who knows…..
-
So how does that work then @TimR, is the scam on the bank side or on the seller side? I checked out APP yesterday - largely because I'm about to transfer a not insignificant amount of cash - and it didn't seem to align with the OP's account, but I may have missed something?

I’m confused 🤔
-
If that is what happened, you should 100% be going to the media with it, as it suggests that one of the banks, or I'd guess someone working at one of the banks, has placed a divert on either your's or the seller's account and that the bank are hiding the fact (and I assume had you not checked the transfer - which could be the case with many payments - you'd never have known you'd lost money)? But given how easy all these things are to trace, I can't believe that's what's happened?
-
IIRC a trusted member on here had their account hacked a few weeks back, I wasn't suggesting a trusted member had gone rogue.
-
'Problem' with PayPal account followed by a diversion of the bank transfer, the coincidences are mounting
-
It's funny how cash with all the inherent risks is viewed through such rose-tinted glasses these days; inconvenience, risk of fake cash, haggling, even muggings! I'm very happy with PayPal thanks 👍
-
And no, bank transfer is not the safest way to transfer money, or at least not always, which is why I tend to pay by PayPal whenever possible. Either way, hope this works out for you 👍
-
This is an odd one, it doesn't sound like a authorised push payment scam though? If you and your wife both verified the account details when you made the payment, and if the funds then went to a different account, whatever happened must be either an error by the bank or something to do with the recipient's account?
-
Oh shot just saw the price, OK that’s laughable for a noname bitsa 🤔
-
It’s not an original Fender but I quite like it 👍

When did you realise….. you weren’t going to “make it”?
Beedster replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
Do you mean he/they tried to split your band? We had exactly the same "We love you all except your singer", who was sadly the only person with any semblance of talent in or anywhere near the band -

Same, late 80's playing in a band several of who went on to success made me realise that the type of success in question was to be avoided like the plague, can think of few careers I'd less have than being in a successful band (I should caveat that with my 100% certainty that I do not have the temperament for it, had I done I might have chosen differently). -
I just bought a fake £550 microphone on eBay.
Beedster replied to LLOYDWT's topic in PA set up and use
Not as easy as you'd think to prove something is a fake, especially niche items like mics, you say it's fake, sller says it's real, what do you expect eBay to do, phone Neumann and request a formal appraisal? But it's not just that, eBay are also aware that if they simply removed every reported fake it would be chaos, every disgruntled customer, every scammer, and every dodgy dealer who'd happily report their competitors to eBay or similar for selling 'fakes' just to get them off the market, would be at it 24/7. I think we just have to be proportionate in our expectations of eBay or shop elsewhere -

Very good news @Telebass, inveterate tinkering is part and parcel of bassmanship after all
