  1. I’m feeling a setlist coming on here 👍
  2. Early 80's for me were define by that nasal funky fretless thing, two very different instances of it below
  3. Nope, always been king
  4. So in another thread 'I was made for loving you' by KISS was being proposed as their greatest track by one of the sites more discerning members (@me) and it got me reflecting on that rather special late 70's/early 80's period in which record companies quite literally instructed producers to ensure that there was a disco track on the album. I've always wanted to forma rock disco band, and have just the drummist for it, so am looking forward to seeing what pops up here. Heres my top three for starters. Miss You, the definitive disco statement, but SO Jagger that it slipped under the disco radar for many years Nothing under the radar about this baby however..... Hollywood Nights, i didn't recognise it as disco until it appeared on our setlist, and it's also the moment we realised that our indie/punk drummist was, at heart, a dancer
  5. I suspect that you're among friends
  6. Just makes you smile does that, one of those basslines that looks SOOOOOOO easy but the timing on the track is impeccable 👍
  7. No, not any neck will fit, but certainly most will, especially aftermarket necks by Mighty Mite, Allparts, Warmoth (they are to my mind the best brands although Fender aftermarket are also reasonably priced) because they are made to retro fit to Fender, but not all neck will. But before deciding also check your neck pocket is standard Fender fit. Good luck, fretless is fun 👍
  8. That’s what happens when you list it as collection only, massive percentage drop in market, seller would have picked up double that had they offered postage 👍
  9. Working, six hours to install, verify, set up, and run a piece of software these days? I'm using UAD and Pro Tools, both I would guess infinitely more complex but both so much quicker to set up and easy/logical to use
  10. I've got quite a lot of work coming up and thought I'd make things easier running my Apollo via a Softube Console 1. Long story short I've spent the last four hours trying to get the software to respond, it opens, immediately hangs, and then the only way I can get my computer back is by uninstalling it. I've tried all the options suggested in various forums, e.g., loading, unplugging the hardware, then plugging it back in again, to no avail. This seems to be quite a common issue but I'm yet to find a solution online and it seems Softube support are not fast. Anyone using it and had to work through this? Cheers. Chris
  11. Thanks for posting @Hellzero, that's a few months of my life gonna go to learning that part, and I'm pretty sure getting the right notes in the right order is only a very small part of it 👍
  12. One of the defining bass moments of my childhood 👍
  13. Right in principle, probably not in law. If they tell you very clearly in their T&C s that the item you're not sending is not covered, it's going to be a pretty decent law firm who makes the class action stick, they know exactly whet they're doing, a certain type of person will always opt for the insurance option assuming that, should push come to shove, and even though there is a clear statement saying 'not insured', the courier firm will do the right thing.....
  14. But that’s the truth, bass didn’t exist on radio, it was all upper mids, and not in a nice way, sure it’s part if the reason the Ric clank emerged in the 70s, only bass tone that came through 🤔
  15. 100% with you, it shows that when I was growing up and listening to radio and must have heard this song literally hundreds of times, bass was not in the mix. OK, a counter to that could be that my ears weren't attuned, but I always had a bass brain, one of my earliest musical memories for example was hearing The Night by Franky Valli and the Four Seasons and knowing that bass was where is was at, but the bass part in the latter track is very up front and centre, whereas in the track about, despite the musicality (or perhaps because of it), it's a far less obvious line, especially if not helped by EQ at the station and poor quality speakers in my childhood bedroom
  16. For some reason bass lines seems to come over better on Radio 6, almost like the whole station in better EQ'd than the rest? Anyway, until this morning i'd never picked up what an extraordinary bit of playing this is
  17. Does the preamp really change the characteristics of your bass? Yes Is it worth doing? That's down to you, but once you start..... What preamps would work well with a pj with dimarzio pickups in? That's the rabbit hole.....
  18. In theory yes, double bass boards are often treated in this way, not sure how good it would look and how long it would last. I also think you'll find that all maple fingerboards wear a finish of some sort you would need to remove which might not be easy or satisfactory
